Oden's numbers for the past five games.
16.4 ppg, 11.4 rpg, 1.4 blocks. 65.9% shooting. 64% from the line (Ok, he still has something to work on).
Sure, the level of competition hasn't been high, but it's becoming very obvious what he is going to become. He's already playing more minutes before getting into foul trouble. If he comes into next season in top shape, he'll be an all star; there isn't a lot of competition at C, but still.
With any luck, pretty soon we won't have to hear anymore ridiculous comparisons to Brook Lopez (who has a TS% of 52.5).
I'm not saying he won't have any bad nights for the rest of the season, or even that he's "turned the corner" or anything dramtic like that; but, he's slowly making his way up to his potential.
And as far as Durant is concerned, he'll probably just end up being a more hyped version of Shareef Abdur Rahim (and I'm almost sure I spelled that wrong).

First!
and you didn’t spell it wrong.
The little brother of Olden Polynice went to college with me. And no, he did not dress like a police officer.
wow, he nailed the spelling
but bombed the comparison… Durant isn’t like Shareef… he’s like T-Mac (eventually)

It took Shareef 11 years to make the playoffs
I am assuming that is what he is referring too.

Pretty much that, yeah.
But with a healthy dose of hyperbole.
I agree on all accounts
except the comment on Durant. The kid is gonna be something. He’s just too special of a player to end up being a Shareef
Shareef was actually a pretty good player
for a while anyway.
With that said, Durant seems to be a lot more athletic than Rahim. And a lot less muscular.
If you agree with me: Good, I like being agreeable.
If you [think you] don't agree with me: You really do agree with me. You just haven't realized that I use sarcasm alot, so whatever you didn't agree with, take the opposite of it, and that's what I really mean.

Why when the Oden vs. Durant comparison arises
does Durant have to have a failed career? I think both players will be great in this league. And I hope what I think becomes true. If Durant steals our rings than he should be doomed to become Harold Miner.

durant vs oden
couldn’t go wrong with either pick….blazers just happened to go for the big man with potential. Either way that was the best #1 pick to have in years.

G.O. is rocking it....
that said, i still look at how many fouls he has in any given game. I created a fan post the other day expressing my regret for beng such an impatient fan. Now, more than ever do i see my follie.(sp?) in 3 years when B-roy, LMA, and G.O. are reaching there potential we will have “happy times.” Book it!

Big Greg's doin' it till he's satisfied.
now that he has confidence, that massive chip on his shoulder is finally working to his advantage. the world will finally open its eyes to oden the first time he rips Bynum a new butthole with a 30 pt 15+ reb effort.

and by the way...
Durantula has McGrady written all over him. A couple of statistically brilliant and dominant years, a lot of hype, a lot of fans in china, a lot of jerseys sold (haha not okc ones though… ug-ly!), and… my personal favorite… very little playoff success. then at 28 his skinny body will break down on him and he’ll do a VC/T-Mac spiral into basketball oblivion.
:)

ouch
thats a real possibility, but i rather hope he gets a ring his own self. It would be kinda awsome if the two of them co-owned the NBA for the next ten years, without any other challengers. Obviously I’de like the edge for Oden, Maybe Durrant could be Odens Malone, who without michael, would have owned almost all the records that Mike had.

meh...
they can have a rivalry even if durant never wins a ring. the sports guy will forever and always hype durant as the better of the two, because he’s a flaming psychopath.

watching Greg
these last few games has been great.
Super active, tracking down boards that he has no business in recovering, hitting much more consistently with that little hook and best of all not taking many dumb fouls, you can see him thinking when he decides to let a bucket go because he would just pick up a foul, and he is keeping his arms straight up for the most part.
i don't see the need to even talk about durant
when talking about greg. they play different positions, and while i infinitely prefer oden i saw enough of kevin durant in college to wish him well in a general way — he’s going to be great in his own way.
i’m glad portland has greg oden. a player i’d like to see him outplay is andrew bynum.
ignacio
those two have the makings of an epic rivalry

not really
they don’t play the same position (or even close), and neither strikes me as a rivalry guy. Durant is all business all the time, super professional. Oden is too nice guy.
exzactly

I agree with you for the most part...
But for Durant being an over-hyped version of Shareef….
These are his stats for the last 5 games:
31.4 pts, 9.6 rbs, 4.8 asts….
Im not saying we should have taken him, but wow, the guy deserves some respect.

One Man Band
i agree that Durant is good. But – and it’s a big but – look at the team he’s playing on. It’s pretty much a one man band. On the better teams in the league, he’d still be good – but those numbers would be down in the 20/6/3 range, as he’d be part of a team offense, not a one man band. Until OKC gets a couple of more players around him, we’ll never really know how good he is.
b-b-b-but jeff green...
and w-w-w-westbrook.
oh my oh my how’s does durant score so much with those two blue chippers on the court with him? lordy lordy OKC will be A-OK!

Shareef
Averaged 20ppg before being traded to Portland back when we won games. For us he averaged…. 11? Going to a real team can hurt.
Damon peaked in his first couple years in the league with Toronto. Once again, being the only guy on your team helps.
Durant is getting the same type of love, but he hasn’t reached his full potential. As his team gets better, so will he, so he should be able to at very least keep his numbers at 23/7 throughout his prime.
