If Roy ends up 2nd team all NBA that would be amazing

How about this statement on NBA.com? Remember this IS the official site of the NBA…check out the passage in bold.

Worst Move
Could the Stephon Marbury situation be any worse for the Knicks? Despite being paid $20 million to stay away from the team, Fallen Star-bury is hardly willing to budge on a buyout.

Honorable mention: The Sonics’ relocation to Oklahoma City. The move wasn’t fair to the people of Seattle, though the fans of OKC have embraced their Thunder.

Hmm….

The reason the economy is in shambles is.....

Stephon freaking Marbury is making $20 million to sit around and pick up a check. Our world is off its axis because a complete waste of human life should NEVER be paid $20 million to do nothing. Untill this grave injustice is corrected our world, indeed our country shall never regaid its prior form. No one realizes Stephon is to blame for our woes right now. I am not being sarcastic, for the record. (well kinda)

If Yao is the second best center in the NBA...

I think Greg could pass him in as little as two years. We could have the second best center in the NBA in two years.

Uhhh...

What? Yao is a better center than Oden now, and providing Yao and Oden both stay healthy (quite a leap, given both of their histories) will probably stay that way. He will always be taller than everyone, and not in a Manute Bol stick legs kind of way, but with some actual strength.

I’ll gladly be proven wrong though

If Greg can get his freethrows up to 80% (not impossible)

He can surpass Yao.

don't think 80% is a requrement to pass Yao

it would be nice, and it might be possible, but if he’s a 73-77 percent guy from the line, and the rest of his game keeps improving like it should, the FT% is rather immaterial. Heck, Shaq was the best center (and most dominant player) in the game for many seasons, and he was a terrible free throw shooter.

S4E is agreeing with you that Yao is currently better than Oden. All he is saying that given two more years, he likes Oden’s chances of overtaking Yao in that regard. These certainly seem well withing the bounds of reason. For one, Yao has a history of leg trouble, undergoes a grueling year round pace at the behest of his Chinese bosses. For two, he is 28 years old and has pretty much plateaued – he won’t be getting any better than he is now, and at some point will begin the inevitable decline. That decline often starts earlier for big men, especially really big men like him, with already suspect mobility. In contrast, Greg is barely 21 years old and should be improving his game for at least the next few years. For three, for all his height, he doesn’t really play that tall. He is not the defensive presence that his height and mass would suggest he should be. He is actually more of a finesse player on offense even as well.

Not saying Greg will definately pass Yao in 2 years or so, but you have to say that it is certainly a very real possibility.

Do they still go to 3rd team in the NBA?

because if thats the case, as of right now, it goes in order: Bryant, Wade, Roy.

by SamGoody on Jan 29, 2009 12:26 AM PST reply actions

except

they don’t go by SG and PG, they just have 2 guards on each team. Fair to say CP and KB are on the first team and DWade is on the 2nd team. That 2nd spot on the 2nd team is up for grabs, and BRoy is a legitimate contender for it.

And yes, they go to 3rd team. I’d say he is a lock for that at a minimum, assuming the season plays out similar to how it has so far.

Oh yeah

thats true, but don’t be surprised if Roy does miss out on the 2nd team because D-Will and Jameer also have a claim

by SamGoody on Jan 29, 2009 2:58 PM PST up reply actions

not to mention Harris

but yes regardless, Roy is tops in the league and hopefully end of the year All-Nba teams will reflect that.

Here's my mid-season awards.

Most Valuable Player: LeBron James
Defensive Player of the Halfway Point: Andre Iguodala
Rookie of the Halfway Point: Derrick Rose
Sixth Man of the Halfway Point: Jason Terry
Most Improved Player: Devin Harris
Coach of the Halfway Point: Stan Van Gundy
All-NBA First Team: Dwight Howard, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Kobe Bryant, & Chris Paul
All-NBA Second Team: Yao Ming, Chris Bosh, Danny Granger, Dwyane Wade, & Devin Harris
All- NBA Defensive First Team: Dwight Howard, Kevin Garnett, LeBron James, Andre Iguodala, & Chris Paul
All-NBA Rookie First Team: Brook Lopez, Kevin Love, Michael Beasley, O.J. Mayo, & Derrick Rose

In real life, Dirk Nowitzki and Brandon Roy would make it over Danny Granger and Devin Harris; that’s ‘cause the NBA doesn’t distinguish between the different forward and guard positions. I, however, account for those disparities. For the All-NBA Rookie First Team, I applied the exact same rules — as Kevin Love and Michael Beasley wouldn’t’ve otherwise made it, while Greg Oden and Russell Westbrook would’ve replaced them — so take that into account.

Just saying.

AK1984 agrees with you (I think)

but said that he prefers to make each team have a PG, SG, SF, and PF, instead of 2 guards and 2 forwards like the NBA does i.

by douglast on Jan 29, 2009 12:55 AM PST up reply actions

i actually prefer that the NBA doesn't break it out by 1 through 5

Just like in the ASG selection, the way the NBA does it allows most deserving players overall to win the honor and somewhat mitigates the likely occurrence that SG is more top heavy than PG (or vice versa), and that PF is more top heavy than SF (or vice versa).

K Love?

He’s not even on the Rookie team for the all-star weekend. Westbrook is a better rook at this point.

by Sungari on Jan 29, 2009 9:48 AM PST up reply actions

READ!

He said Westbrook is better than Love. He also said that he goes by position, thus Love gets the PF spot because there are no other rookie PFs doing anything.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
