As the trade deadline approaches there's been a lot of talk about trading RLEC for different players. So I'm wondering what RLEC is actually worth. At this point the 2009 free-agent market does not look that exciting and most teams clearing cap-room are looking at 2010. There are going to be 5-7 teams other than the Blazers with significant cap-space so anybody targeting an '09 free-agent knows there will be competition. You also have a couple other big expiring contracts on the market(Marion anybody).
Looking at people that are going to value the RLEC, I would expect it would be rebuilding or non-contending teams, looking for cap flexibility and not in direct competition with Portland.
The teams that may fit this description are:
Charlotte, Washington, Indiana, Milwakee, NY Knicks, Sacramento, Golden State(maybe), Toronto(maybe)
Of the 8 teams that might trade with us, what is the max they would offer us for RLEC straight up that we could use on the team? Assume they are throwing in bad-contracts to make salaries match. If you want to go to the trade machine do.
