Junk Drawer Jan. 24 -- all apologies

First off, it's 3:05 PM here in Hong Kong and I've just returned from a butt-kicking yoga session. No joking around. I am WORKED.

Which got me thinking, I probably owe some people a few apologies. I was kinda of a jerk to a few people during and after the Cavs game the other day. I just got really worked up and was ticked about a few things. Normally I don't talk trash to other BEdgers, but I lost my cool. Sorry.

I've also recently had a friend of 20 years turn his back on me. Strange. I can't think of what I did or didn't do to tick him off so much, but I think it was just things running its course, I suppose. That's what my wise woman tells me, anyway. She usually gets things right, or pretty close to right.

Some good games coming up, and by "good" I mean "Blazers run up the score and Ike and Shav play good minutes while Roy rests and Greg gets his per-game averages up."

Sleep now, my little west coast babies. I've got to go shopping for a Chinese cellphone.

No worries

We were are all pretty heated up… tough loss to take.

Look at how easy the next ten games are…. I bet Shav gets in at some point

Washington – I watched them play the Lakers… and 6 of their first 11 were contested 3s.

@ LAC – They played eight guys tonight. Chekh Samb was their third best player. ’Nuff said.

Charlotte – We better beat them… still miffed about that “timeout” that was called with the ball loose on the floor.

Utah – They are 1-8 against winning teams on the road, and are on a back-to-back. Need to pick this win up, as we are coming off of two days of rest.

@ New Orleans – They are a walking MASH unit right now… Top three frontcourt players out, may not return in time for the Blazer game. Greg will be contending against the incredible Sean Marks. Kiwi power.

@ Dallas – With New Orleans’ injury struggles, probably the toughest game in the stretch of ten. Not unwinnable though. If we can guard JJ Barea and Brandon Bass (meh), we have a shot.

@ OKC – Tonight, they lost to a team whose third best player active was Chekh Samb. We need to win this one.

New York – We beat them in NY, and the sweep should be expected. They just beat NO in NO, though.

OKC – See previous point about losing to team playing Chekh Samb.

@ GS – This is a bit of a trap game, as GS has been pretty tough at the Oracle recently. Still, they’re a bottom feeder. Gotta win the easy ones.

Can we please win eight of those?

Apologize to meeeeee

You were very rude that night and made me cry. MOREOVER, you hurt my feelings. FURTHERMORE, I wish I could move on from that night but the memories haunt me like the ghost of that dead hobo I murdered and stashed in the crawlspace after the Clippers loss.

IN ADDITION, I’m not sure what got into you but I’d love it if you admitted how mean you is/are/were. I’m pretty sure you are why Jake the Snake from the Year 1999 is taking a break from Blazers Edge.

Did you convert to some religion in Hong Kong?

Seriously, what took you from NYC to HK? How long will you be there? Will you return to NYC? Are you the tallest person?

The lady's job took me here.

they paid for the move, so I quit my job and now I’m Chinese.
I’m pretty tall here, but there was one white guy I saw that had to be 6’8". He was huge. I’m only 5’8" and I feel sorta big.
It’s 8:49 am here, by the way. I just got up and see if my crying-in-my-beer post was still up or nuked for being too morose.
I’m here for two or three years.
Funny thing is, in NYC, they kept taking about how FAST everyone walked here and how it’s rush rush rush all the time. BUT IT"S NOT TRUE, at least not on Hong Kong island. The lady and i call them Slow-Poke meanderers. They walk in little quarter-steps and wonder to the right for a while, then the left — impossible to get around on a sidewalk of thousands.

I had a beautiful Golden Retriever

one of the ones with the dark golden fur. Sweetest dog, but we found that she had epilepsy when she was two and a half. Pheno-barbital really made her a different dog… it was sad. She only lived til she was seven.

Great dog though. Beautiful breed.

Man that's a sad story

That’s WAY too young. And if the lymphoma had a genetic cause, the Simmons family may be going through it again with the half-brother dog.

My mother had to euthanize her lab last week. She’s as depressed as she was after my brother died.

Thanks

Add me to the list of people who want the cat column. I can’t imagine watching sports with my cats — they absolutely hated the Blazers. I think it’s because we’re usually quiet people, but during games we yell at the TV a lot. One cat would run to the crawlspace when she heard the Blazers theme or Mike Barrett’s voice. She even recognized his voice on the radio.

I gotta avoid these stories.

First, I’ve read enough of them over the years. I know it’ll be well written, but let’s face it, you know where it’s going. Second, when you’ve already got a sick dog, you don’t want to be reminded of the future, ya know?

Of course, I still see a lot of these stories anyway. All books, movies, etc about animals must be pre-approved by me, for my wife’s protection. :)

My in-laws used to live up in Yuen Long

in the New Territories—about as far away as you can get from Central and still be in HK. (Unfortunately, my wife’s parents are now both deceased…) Yuen Long is one of those parts of HK where one doesn’t often see "gwailo"s, so I occasionally got started at when I was there.

How is your Cantonese? :)

Paul Allen has been independent of Microsoft

for years, although he still has a big chunk of their stock, apparently.

There was a report in the media (due to a technology writer, not a sportswriter) a while back than when Allen had cancer (Hodgkin’s, I think), he overheard Bill Gates and company discussing ways to get back his stake when he died, or something like that. Obviously he didn’t die.

The NBA - where eating popcorn on the bench happens
Reserve G Chucky Atkins, who hasn’t played in eight games since joining the Thunder in a trade from Denver on Jan. 7, ate popcorn out of a large bucket and shared his snack with teammates while the game was in progress. The bucket was hidden by a towel.

Hey Y5k

Dang — I completely missed it when you were being a jerk. But I wanted to ask, did you ever get that dizzy thing figured out? I’m guessing that everything’s AOK if you’re doing yoga.

Yeah, twiggs' advice about the decongestant wworked some ...

… but now I’m only dizzy on occasion. It sometimes feels like my head is swelling up. i think it’s a sinus thing. I’m trying to drink lots of fluids as a way to keep it loose up there.
thanks for asking, corvid.
I wasn’t that much of a jerk, but this is such a cool community that I just wanted to get the bad taste out of my mouth.
