Luftman replacement?
The Tony Luftman fanshot got me to thinking. Who would you like to see replace him? Yes there is MUCH worse than Tony. But this is Portland! We can upgrade! Here are some guys that I would like to see doing the halftime show (if they'd do it, or are available). Mychael Thompson, Jerome Kersey, Kenny Vance, Dave Akamian (sp?), any other ideas??

Why are you singling out Luftman?
As if Holton is any good. That guy sends a shiver down my spine every time he stares into the camera. Muwuhuh….. there it is, apparently the thought is enough.
So shouldn’t the question be “who is going to replace the Luftman/Holton combination for next year?”
I’ve already answered this is several open game day threads and the correct answer is Kelly Day of KOIN 6 news and the Landmark Ford lady. Both are easy on the eyes and have great voices.
What’d I win?

The problem is
The Landmark Ford lady does local ads all over the country, and isn’t Portland specific! I’ve seen her in ads all over this fine nation of ours.
Will she be willing to settle down in Portland and talk Blazers? When she can be pimping Dodges in Omaha? Methinks it doth not likelies.
I’m willing to give our Two Stooges more time, but they need to stop giggling and makin’ with the funnies that ain’t funny.
It isn’t a championship level broadcast, and it should be.

Say it isn't so!
I know that can’t be true. Have you seen how Canzano dresses when he makes TV appearances? Earth tones resembling a Fall wardrobe all year…. no no no no no. Anna wouldn’t date a guy who refuses to get his color scheme figured out.

That's what I remember reading
Though it was last year’s gossip and it’s totally full of rumorosity. (I personally didn’t see them canoodling in a dark restaurant.) But face it, there are women who are drawn to men who make bad color choices. It’s entirely possible.

something utterly lacking in the current format… I’d be more then happy with a Kelley Day / Anna Song combo…. they’d certainly get more viewers

Actually...
She is a local gal…I saw a segment they did on her a couple of months ago…and then I see her doing the car ads after…(that is if we are talking about the younger, attractive Ford gal)..She has a local agency with ties to Hollywood..and her biz iz next to the Hollywood sign in Portland…but I am not a stalker or anything! :)

Akamian
I thought he was pretty decent when he filled in for Luftman last year…at least his product was actually tolerable. I don’t think he’s someone that people will overly love (like wheels, or schonley), but he’s also not going to be one of those guys that people hate as well. Kinda like Blake…he just gets the job done.
If we wanted an ex-player to do the hosting…it’d probably have to be the color commentator role that holton has right now. i’d give frye the sceen time over holton.

1st there is Luftman
Then there is Holton
If it wasn’t for those two items…the half time show would be perfect

honestly
i’m just glad i have access to 82 televised games. last year i would painfully watch the pregame and the halftime programs bc it was new…but i find myself just turning the channel or heating up some food this year or fast forwarding on the dvr this year. holton and luftman are a small price to pay for getting all the games televised one way or another.

That's true
Most of us, or at least a LOT of us, can watch all 82 games now and that was just a dream a few short years ago. And now we’re bitching about the halftime crew being not up to snuff (films)? We’re spoiled!
They do gotta work on their schtick though, and the first thing to do is eliminate any schtick.
No catchphrases. No “jokes”. More naturalness. Repeat.

i've mentioned
to the organization when i did the fan advisory board, that i think blazer fans are pretty “educated” on the game, yet when they do the broadcasts they kind of dumb down the content. i understand why they would do that when we were losing…but now fans are reading up on basketball…using the internet as a resource, and i think that the programming should at least try to educate the fans on the basics of basketball as well. i told them a good example of this was how the snapper would used to diagram plays with the telestrator.
i’ve noticed holton was explaining the pick and roll a few games ago and the options the ball handler has. its a great way for casual fans to understand the game. i’m glad they are moving in this direction to fill time rather than cheesy one liners.

I don't mind Holton either.
I like the “Dunk you very much” phrase. Tony seems like a nice guy, he’s just not up to a playoff teams caliber. He’d do much better in OKC or somewhere like that. A guy that can smile through the pain, and make light of the games. We are a little more serious now.

I would say the problem is definitely with Luftman.
I actually like Holton; he brings some insight and genuine enthusiasm to his recaps. Luftman, on the other hand, just comes off completely fake and clueless. Every time he talks, it’s like he’s half trying not to laugh—as if someone just made a good joke—even when nobody said anything remotely funny. Every time they come back from commercial he pretends to be laughing about something. And the “Tell them what they won” joke has gotten really, really old. It’s getting almost as annoying as Mike Barrett constantly saying “The Blazers are lucky to be down only [x points].”
tldr; Dump Luftman, keep Holton.

It couldnt be any worse than those two
I agree with the “cringe worthy” comments……Holton is just an embarassing gasbag and contributes absolutely nothing (especially contrasted with the excellent Mike Barrett and Mike Rice) other than incredibly idiotic cheeseball sayings, terrible wardrobe choices, and lots of gaudy bling. Luftman is overeager and a bit nervous but I think with time he could find his stride……………….bring back the Snapper!

I used to think the were both tools but....
Now I find Holton to be funny. Holton says some really funny things during highlights and his strange delivery cracks me up. I agree that Luftman is pretty average. I use to not like Mike Barret at all because I though he was extremely vanilla and had no knowledge of basketball. It wasn’t until I started hearing him on the radio where I gained a sense of who he really was did I enjoy his commentary.

I thought he did a good job. MUCH more relaxed. He’s a big dude I guess, perhaps, maybe; he did really well with it so it tells me he KNOWS what the show should be like but they are forcing it into a style that isn’t natural to them.
