Courtside Notes 12/29

Trail Blazers Courtside
12/29/08, 6-7pm
Note: only hour show due to Duck basketball
Hosts: Mike Barrett, Mike Rice, Brian Wheeler

Summary

    * McMillian – I see areas we still need to improve on. We just go to focus on it and commit to doing it.
    * Mike Rice – last five years in the West the teams with the best win record on the road advance to the playoffs. Portland is 8th and Utah 9th best of the nine teams contending for 8 playoff spots.
    * Predictions for 2009 – Mike Barratt - “Trail Blazers will make a blockbuster deal right before the trade deadline using Raef LaFrenz’s contract to land a former all-star”
    * John Hollinger, ESPN Analyst – 93% chance Portland will make the playoffs and 38% chance Portland will win the division[/QUOTE]

I don't like this:

“Predictions for 2009 – Mike Barratt – "Trail Blazers will make a blockbuster deal right before the trade deadline using Raef LaFrenz’s contract to land a former all-star"”

What former all star is worth a blockbuster deal? I can think of several that scare the bejabbers out of me.

my old roomates entire family(male side) are pretty avid Blazer fans,

and they all used to call him, “the great big crap machine”.

"Former All-Stars"

Since we can (hopefully) eliminate the likes of Theo Ratliff, Stephon Marbury, Steve Francis, Antoine Walker, Jerry Stackhouse and Michael Finley, here are some names in no particular order that could fit the description of former All-Star yet not really current All-Star, and that are remotely available (not that it would be “likely” to get those guys).

  • Josh Howard
  • Antawn Jamison
  • Shawn Marion
  • Andrei Kirilenko
  • Peja Stojakovic
  • Michael Redd
  • Wally Szczerbiak (trading one player who is mainly an expiring contract for another is not really a blockbuster is it?)
  • Grant Hill
  • Jason Kidd
  • Gilbert Arenas
  • Shaquille O’Neal :)
  • Jermaine O’Neal :))
  • Rasheed Wallace :)))

Former and still borderline All-Stars for this year:

  • Rip Hamilton
  • Allen Iverson
  • Caron Butler
  • Vince Carter
  • Baron Davis

vince carter

I am so intrigued about vince. I think he could really thrive, and if not lead by example at least kind of teach some veteran tricks. Veteran superstar tricks too. Rec’d this comment because that is good research and appreciated.

I just submitted a Fanshot linking to an article about Vince Carter

that you may be interested in. Doesn’t have anything to do with trades though,

"Aneurysm".

When Outlaw wins a game on a last-second shot, it’s called an "annthefaneurysm". QualityPie

thanks a lot

about the former all star, Butler and Vince Carter would be great.
Shawn Marion would be nice too, if the cost was only Outlaw+RLEC

"shaq and zach randolph have the same trainer... "

Let me google that for you

Just kidding. He will turn 32 this January.
I don’t like that he seems not motivated for quite a lot of games, and can’t really imagine him in a supporting role (which our small forward was until now, pretty much no plays in the Blazers’ playbook are designed for that position). Apart from that he would be interesting but probably hard to get for just a package around Raef.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.

OK, that should just about wrap up the goaltending discussion.
