New To Portland
Hey Blazers fans,
I've moved to portland a short time ago and I'm looking for die hard Blazer fans to watch games with and go to the Rose Garden too. I live in NE Portland, where there are not a lot of fans- at least I don't see that many people with jerseys. Thanks... Richard

Welcome!
Welcome to Portland. What brought you to Portland? I love living here, but I always find it kind of weird how many people move here since it doesn’t seem like that “desirable” of a location. Did you come from a big city or a small town?

I love the Vita in NE
I’m in SE where the hippies keep me safe.
I saw some report about SE not actually being as safe as NE
In inner SE, all the hippies have these hangers-on that are really druggy and scummy. So there is actually a lot of property crime and crap in there and some violence.
Plus, if you get into outer SE, then you’re just asking for it. Lots of crime.
I’ve lived in North, NE, and SE. I like all the places, but surprisingly prefer N or NE. I like the Overlook area and Albina too, for places that aren’t crazy expensive.

I live here in "inner" se w/ the hippies
I wouldn’t say they keep me safe, mostly because of that whole “peace” thing.

You have nothing to worry about with crime
Take it from me, we are in paradise up here, when it comes to crime.
yeah,
you’re like Disneyland up there, huh…

Compared to Disneyland, its Disneyland in PDX

i'm a devoted fan
i just don’t wear my jersey around that much, maybe i’ll wear it tomorrow while i’m up on NE Alberta :-)

don't wear it if it's a red jersey
some gangs don’t like red.

Will you at least carry a gun just in case?
by Bust a Bucket on Jan 17, 2009 9:07 PM PST up reply actions
and unloaded and your ammo has to be carried seperately from your firearm...

do you all like shooting guns
as much as I do?

but then
you’d have to live in washington and worry about whether or not people are walking around with concealed guns or not.
guns make me more stressed
my roommate has an arsenal here in “inner” SE though; guitars is what i like to put my mitts on.

what kind of guns does your roomie have?
and for what purpose? Protection? Target shooting? Hunting? Collecting?
by Bust a Bucket on Jan 18, 2009 2:03 PM PST up reply actions
yes, I would like to know
that’s why I asked…

target and collecting
he doesn’t keep all of them in town. he has inherited some, bought some. don’t worry, he’s cool :-)

what, me worry?
heck no, I like guns and have several myself.

i would be seriously surprised
if a commenter on a PTB internet forum wearing a blazer’s jersey would be mistaken for a rival gang member.
don’t be scared.
What if the guy from Three Shades of Blue or Darius' agent were walking through NE Portland
then should the PTB blogger be scared?

I've only visited Portland, do you really have to worry about gang violence enough not to wear a red Blazer jersey?
No - perfectly safe

lol...YOU CAN WEAR YOUR BLAZER GEAR ANY PLACE YOU LIKE!!!...
Violence over colors is a weeee bit old ….kinda like…mid 80’s old. n in my opinion only is a cheap excuse for other reasons for beating any given color wearing folks butt….
it’s a power thing not a color thing.
But I’ve made many many trips to ne/se/nw/central/south=)central portland decked out head to toe in the red black and silver n had no problems what so ever….and i’m the kinda bafoon that goes lookin for it.
Portland is as safe as your own living room to wear the Pride of portlands colors….n for all them blue wearin haters…….
they need to move back to the 13th street they came from!!! and it ain’t in gresham!!! purple would look better on em anyway….
stupid gangbangers.
The Faith don't panic, the faith freaks out burns out farms and torchs small villages in the name of The Faith.
no, you do not
well, maybe if you’re a gang member…
But seriously, while the gang situation has picked the last few months, residents of just about any other city in the country would laugh at how tame Portland is.

what about
Katie O’brien’s on 28th and Sandy or the Rocky Butte Pub on Sandy?
by Bust a Bucket on Jan 17, 2009 11:20 PM PST up reply actions
I work on the same intersection as Katie O'Briens
decent place.. watched PSU get stomped by KU last March there..
next door is the best barbershop ran by scantily clad women that I have ever seen
Is that where you work?

it could be the barber, the auto place, the guitar/music store…
by Bust a Bucket on Jan 18, 2009 6:42 PM PST up reply actions
well technically we are right off the intersection
across the street from Marina’s cafe next to the guitar/music store…
dang, I give up... can't think of anything else
what is it?
by Bust a Bucket on Jan 18, 2009 9:02 PM PST up reply actions
it's pretty hidden
behind the Enterprise there is a little shop called Phoenix Chiropractic and Massage or something like that that shares a building with a realty company called Affinity that rents its basement to a small research consultancy group where I work and occassional go across the intersection to Katie’s or to the Barber Babes.. with their very cool cops DVD
no but i had a really nice hair and beard cut their once
they gave me a beer, put on a DVD of cops, and the woman trimming me was in lingerie…
if you have a DVD of cops
you know you’re freaking awesome!
That’s sweet. I didn’t know Cops was on DVD… and if it was homemade, even more legendary…

this is insane
I think you all scared this dude. He’s new. Why would you bring up gang violence?
He lives in NE Portland. To everyone, specifically bust a bucket, have you even been to NEP? Freemont? Alberta? I feel safer there than I do downtown.
I lived in NoPo for 4 years
and NE for another 2.
And I loved it. I walked around drunk at night and never had a problem. My car was never messed with. My house was never messed with.
I agree with you about feeling safer than downtown. There are many more drugged-up wackos downtown.
I was just joking about the whole “don’t wear red” thing because of the recent stories of gang violence. They don’t shoot innocent people, they shoot rival gang members.
It was a joke and I don’t think he has to worry about anything. But I do like guns (that’s a side note).

Alberta & Albina..
there are some issues in some of the hoods right around there..
but I feel safe everywhere in Portland.. it’s just not that bad.. try walking around the bad side of New Orleans or Detroit sometime.. I never feel in portland that i’m on the verge of being killed for my clothes and spare change
it has always struck me as odd
that more people here don’t set up small gatherings to watch games
the times they are a changin
