Around SBN: Events Cause Mariners To Lose To Rangers

I don't know if getting him is still a possibility but I like the idea. He had a good game last night considering that he has only been back a few games. Best +/- on the team and they beat the Cavaliers. It will be interesting to see what happens with him.

Do we dump Blake and Segio

and play rent-a-Hinrich for the next 3 years while we’re grooming Bayless?

I would love that move

But I don’t think CHI does that unless they are just moving him to move him.

So you want

to have a 3rd pg just incase? I guess that makes some sense, but I don’t agree. I would rather have 2 good PG’s, (in this case that would be Kirk and Bayless) than a good 3rd pg.

by usmcr3049 on Jan 16, 2009 2:03 PM PST up reply actions

yeah

if you have a 3rd “good” PG, won’t they just want to be traded?

Sergio and Bayless aren’t “good” yet and they still get ancy sitting on the bench. Sergio’s agent talked about a trade back in November.

by Bust a Bucket on Jan 16, 2009 2:22 PM PST up reply actions

Point taken.

I guess that is what rookies are for. Had we goen into the season sans Bayless, I imagine a pg would be wearing Shav’s jersey.

I heart taxes.

There is an NBA-level point guard named Randolph who would want to wear #42?

Henry Abbot on True Hoop has a nice article featuring Hinrich today

The two headed monster. The summary is that the Hinrich/Rose combination seems ineffective, because they both need the ball in their hands. If this analysis is correct, then it suggests that Hinrich might not be the best target after all?

by jaywalker on Jan 16, 2009 10:47 AM PST reply actions

I don't know how you came to that conclusion...

I’d say about 100% of all true point guards are at their best playing with the ball in their hands as opposed to off the ball (2-guard). If Hinrich is best when he’s controlling the floor, then I’d argue that’s exactly what we need.

yes

I don’t thing ben gordon is what we want, another guy who can shoot but is not a true point gaurd.
After reading the truehoop I think hinrich would be great for us but if he and rose can keep being great together they will trade ben, like you suggest, and we don’t need him.

by twggyy on Jan 16, 2009 11:24 AM PST up reply actions

yeah...

I remember there was a rumor of portland doing a big trade earlier in preseason and seriously as I was arguing about how it was Hinrich we were trading for they announce he got hurt… Oh and the trade suddenly stopped being talked about.
PS
it wouldn’t be a trade involving our guards since they have a glut of guards and thats why hinrich is on the block

by SamGoody on Jan 16, 2009 11:43 AM PST reply actions

There are a bunch of options..

but I think Hinrich is the most likely. Greg Oden will never be able to stay out of foul trouble so long as we have paper thin perimeter defense. The ONLY top tier defensive PG who is currently available is Hinrich. We also know he will fit into our system because he has the same skill set as Blake (+ defense).

On another note, it would be interesting to see what playing next to Roy would do to Hinrich’s 3pp. Steve Blake shot 32% from behind the line the year before he came to Portland. I imagine Kirk would see a lot more open looks.

Having a second string PG, (Blake?, Kirk?, Bayless?) who can shoot the long ball will space the floor and help Rudy get his game back on track. Teams have been sagging off Sergio now that they know he can’t really shoot. The same thing has started to happen to Rondo and it’s hurting Boston. This leaves Rudy being defended much more closely than he normally would be. You can see Rudy’s % go down as the season has progressed. Teams know what to expect from Sergio, which also shows in his declining assist ratio. Our second unit is losing some of it’s effectiveness due to the fact that defenses are basically playing 5 on 4. It’s probably going to get worse as the season goes on.

Hinrich=Overated

Is Hinrich much better than Blake?……NO…….plus Hinrich has a way bigger contract than Blake……we need to get off the Hinrich trades and look for someone that can be consistant off the bench…..Do we need a 10 man rotation…Lets give Bayless a chance to be a point and then evaluate….When we drafted Roy did we think he was going to be a great point, no, but maybe KP did….you never know what you have until you let it develope…….case in point Jermain O’neil….i am tired of people not giviing Blake his props……I know that he has a tough time defending good point guards late in games but that comes down to coaching (get him out, give the ball to Roy as the point, let Batum gaurd the point)……that formula has worked every time Nate has sumbled into it……Fire Nate should be our cry…..Do you remeber who took over after Cheeks got fired……KP is our future general

After reading a thread that includes "Hinrich," "box," and "score" in it, I totally thought of this photograph.

Kirk Hinrich and Derrick Rose are a dynamic duo both on and off the court, although I want Hinrich to wear a Portland uniform.

quadruple team?

looks like rose is drawing a quadruple team while hinrich is left wide open. maybe he’ll get an assist from rose for the score.

Once the girl on the far left downs her drink, Kirk Hinrich can definitely give her a "private" lesson.

Hinrich is known as an unselfish player; that’s why he’d “take one for the team” by letting Derrick leave with the other three and go to his hotel room smelling like, well, roses.

Are you serious?

That’s CHRIS DUHON, not Derrick Rose.

They look absolutely nothing alike

by NittanyCub on Jan 17, 2009 1:32 PM PST up reply actions

Wow, I thought that was Derrick Rose.

Well, I apologize to Chris Duhon — as well as Rose, for that matter — due to making that mistake.

After looking at this picture of Rose, you’re totally right that he and Duhon have different facial features.
