nate robinson
just heard at work that nate robinson was traded to blazers for sergio. haven't found anything on the inet about it yet. wonder if broy was pulling some strings. We'll see how this move works later in the year, I already thought we were undersized at the PG position when playing against Chauncey, CP3 and Rondo etc....i guess we'll wait and see if this is true. Good news for huskie fans.

Had the story. It is not confirmed, but they are getting information from ESPN that Seergio was traded for Nate Robinson. They will continue to update during breaks from the Jim Rome Show.

main concern again is size at the PG
and Bayless is not a natural PG….Look at our division rivals for example,
Deron Williams 6-3 207, Chauncey Billups 6-3 202. While nate is an exciting player he’s 5-9 and 190 and then Blake is 6-3 172. Could be a concern in a 7 game series. I’ve been a Piston fan my whole like and Chauncey loves to back undersized guards down.

why write off Bayless?
Just because he apperently isnt a natural at PG (which is yet to be seen), doesn’t mean he wont be defending the point position when he is on the floor, like when he is lined up with Broy. Bayless has the size, strength and speed to defend at the point and writing him off just because some people believe he is a tweener guard due to his shooting touch is really not a valid argument.

Yea I think Sergio would
love it in New York. For his position and abilities that fits him so much better than our slow half court offense.

Agree or disagree...?
Nate Robinson is a pretty solid scorer to compliment Roy (which he did in college – actually stealing the spotlight before he went pro) and he’s an upgrade statistically over what Sergio gave us in limited action.
And there’s no doubt he’s better than Bayless right now, which could help us with our goal for the season (playoffs) without hurting our future. He’s going to be a restricted free agent at the end of the season and we can decide then whether or not Bayless and him are duplicates…
I love this deal.
Holler at all those UW boys! SIGN SPENCER HAWES!

gotta agree
We need some confirmation from someplace at some point in this discussion. I think Nate Rob would be great coming off of the bench, and he has been Killing it this year. If we don’t move Travis in this deal this is just an amazing team coming off of the bench, and Nate provides some fire that the second unit sometimes has trouble with. Honestly I really like this deal, despite the fact that it means we will have more Huskies than the Iditarod.

Iditarod...
I wouldn’t say our log jam is any worse than it was with Blake – Sergio and Bayless… Although, Nate Robinson is an upgrade in talent from Sergio (statistically at least) which may make it harder for Bayless, but in some ways, Nate Rob is Bayless with a three-point shot this season…
His defense probably isn’t as good (although we’ve only seen a limited amount out of Bayless) but his offensive game is much better…
What’s the follow-up move here? How does Rudy react to life without his life-partner? Does Nate-Rob start and push Blake back to the second line (as a facilitator to go with Rudy and Outlaw)?

I think the major question is...
Will both Nate Robinson and Rudy Fernandez be wearing Blazers uniforms in the dunk contest?
I would say that Blake’s job is relatively secure. He knows the offense, hits three-pointers at a ridiculous clip (over 40% is darn impressive) and plays sustainable defense as to not be taken advantage of.
However, this does make our second line even MORE exciting. Rudy? Robinson? Outlaw? I would pay to watch Second Team vs. First Team scrimmages…

Nate seems like THE D’Antoni style PG – runs, runs, runs, shoots, passes. Also, I like him because he can play defense on penetrators, something no other Blazer other than Travis does decently (and even then, Travis can guard slashers, LeBron-types, but not a Derrick Rose type small dribbler)

Yeah, there would be a ton of duplication in our 2nd unit back court
Say what you will about Sergio, but he’s a fundamentally different type of player than Nate or Bayless. Really, both of those guys are a little closer to Rudy than Sergio, at least in terms of their games. Also, with Trout there, too, presumably, the second unit would be chock full of scorers who aren’t exactly distributors.
Plus, it’s hard to imagine Nate/Bayless/Rudy all playing at once given how undersized they’d be. And you’d figure Nate would garner more minutes than what Sergio’s been getting, so it doesn’t exactly open up time for Bayless out there.

I'm sure he's an OK guy and would adjust claims better than he does radio.
They need a better personality to balance out the douche baggery of Gavin Dawson. That guy is at least OK but most of the time he’s just talkin’ noise, saying the same thing over and over again just with a few words rearranged.
CIP needs to get a new gig somewhere that doesn’t broadcast radio signals to my car. Soon.

If it goes through, here are my conclusions
-Management realizes that making the playoffs this year is an important goal, and that an upgrade at PG is important towards reaching that goal
-Jerryd Bayless is more a part of this team’s future than Sergio Rodriguez. Thus, Sergio is expendable
-Sergio’s effect on Rudy Fernandez is less than many fans believe. Sure, their alley-oops are fun to watch, but Rudy may rely on Sergio less than we all believe OR Sergio was only needed to help Rudy adjust to the NBA and management feel that period is over
-The second unit (presumably Nate wouldn’t start) needs some more scoring punch and somebody who can get to the basket, and Bayless is not ready to fill that role

Nate on the second line would bring some fire. He can slash, too, which is what the second line really needs…

This is odd
Nate would obviously bring toughness and is a lil’ sparkplug of energy, but he is an unrepetant gunner who is also very annoying.
I’d rather have playmaking Sergio distributing the ball in the 2nd unit than I would Nate Robinson stealing shots from Rudy and everyone else, and being unhappy with playing time.
Hmmmmmmm.
Seems strange to me, has to be more there.
And I still maintain that Sergio’s offensive woes make him not a great fit for D’Antoni ball but he could develop better offense as he ages.

In a PLAYER X vs PLAYER Y type deal
Then Nate Robinson is clearly the better PLAYER, but I don’t think he’s the better fit, and he’s not a good enough player to have to deal later with the ‘how-he-fit-Rudy-and-friends’ issue.
I dunno, I just dunno. Nate can explode some games and go 1 for 17 in another, with 8 turnovers. Man.
I guess you can say I don’t know how I feel about it.

We haven't struggled offensively that much, even still
And we’re one of the best scoring teams in the NBA, 1st and 2nd unit.
I’d just rather address defense before adding more scoring, but like I said, Nate-Rob is better than Sergio, easily… but I dunno if he’d like being a backup forever, or be willing to pass to Rudy.
I am anti-ball hog, though I like Nate’s scrappy toughness. No one will mess with him, even though he’s a midget, and he would punch KG.

I don’t know that I love getting Nate back in return.
However, he’s an explosive scorer off the bench and when added to our second unit gives us another scoring threat.

They have to get league approval...
There are a bunch of reasons why the story hasn’t officially “broke” yet… Odds are both teams are looking to expand this deal into something larger, as presumably neither team is finished making deals… So, odds are they’re contacting the Clippers to try and get Marcus Camby involved… Or they’re still debating whether or not Shavlik Randolph is a deal breaker…
Shoot, maybe KP’s trying to work out a Sergio + Ike Diogu/Channing Frye for David Lee & Nate Rob double pritch-slap…

According to a Recent Post - The Knicks are no longer looking to move David Lee
It provided a link to a story in which it was reported that due to his quality play this season, the Knicks have decided against their earlier intention of trading David Lee to free up cap space .
That’s worth remembering while we speculate on about what this trade could entail (if its even true).

Nate will get 20 attempts to finish one dunk and win because he’s a dwarf, and Rudy will get in because he’s exotic and go on to do normal reverse alley oop dunks that the others don’t do in games but could do in their sleep unguarded.
THIS DEAL KEEPS GETTING WORSE AT EACH PASSING MOMENT. Next we know, the Knicks will be leaving a brigade in Portland to make sure we’re following their orders!!

It's all a fake
KP likes reading Bedge, and he got tired of all the Darius fan posts, and said, “I know, I’ll have one of my minions start a trade rumor, just for kicks.”
Christopher Robin had wheezles and sneezles
They bundled him into his bed.
They gave him what goes with cold in the nose,
And some more for cold in the head.
They wondered if wheezles could turn into measles,
If sneezles would turn into mumps;
They examined his chest for a rash, and the rest
Of his body for swelling and lumps.
They sent for some doctors in sneezles and wheezles
To tell them what ought to be done.
All sorts and conditions of famous physicians
Came hurrying round at a run.
They all made a note of state of his throat,
They asked if he suffered from thirst;
They asked if the sneezles came after the wheezles,
Or if the first sneezles came first.
They say "If you teasle a sneezle or wheezle,
A measle may easily grow.
But humour or pleazle the wheezle or snezle,
The measle will certainly go."
They expounded the reazles for sneezles and wheezles,
The manner of measles when new.
They said, "If he freezles in draughts and in breezles,
The PHTHEEZLES may even ensue."
Christopher Robin got up in the morning,
The sneezles had vanished away.
And the look of his eye seemed to say to the sky,
"Now, how to amuse them today? "
Wonder how KP will amuse us tomorrow….
I know you can put admiration in bags, because admiration is real, and tominhawaii says that everything that is real is measurable.

maybe scores like a majority of his points on his own…i doubt he’ll be too effected by this. rudy does play best off the ball and his scoring might hurt from it on the 2nd unit…especially with no strong low post offensive threat on that unit to draw the defense for a kickout. he’ll contribute in other ways but i can see his production decreasing until he can start driving to the rim…this might even motivate him to do it even more.

It would be kind of a big deal, I can’t remember the last mid season trade the Blazers have done (I don’t think Green for Von Wafer really counts, it had zero impact on the team I think). I don’t this is real. First, Sergio-for-Nate doesn’t work straight up (though I realize they could throw Shav into the deal to make it happen).
Second, if the goal is to give Bayless more PT, bringing Nate onboard makes no sense at all.
It’s an intriguing idea, having Nate on the Blazers, but perhaps that’s why this rumor got started.

I don’t think this trade rumor ever had any truth to it.
The question we should really ponder is not why al-Zeidi could be so impolite as to throw his shoes at Bush, but why the dozens of other shoes in the room remained on people's feet, why no foot odor ever purifies the air at a White House press conference, why a man who throws his shoes at our president is more popular than our president himself.

Some info via hoops world.
Nate for Sergio? There are unconfirmed reports out there that the Portland Trail Blazers have traded point guard Sergio Rodriguez to New York for point guard Nate Robinson. This was reported by 95.5 The Game in Portland – owned by Paul Allen, owner of the Blazers. HOOPSWORLD is checking contacts in Portland and New York and will update as needed.
UPDATE – an hour later: Sources from within both the Blazers and Knicks are calling this just talk and that there is no truth to this.

When I hear "straight up"
I assume that “filler” pieces do not really count in the trade.

That was his value before the season -- now he's got value.

Cool. But I still suppose it's more in the Aaron Gray than Brandon Bass group

If he was an American, I'd say yes
But he’s a Euro and flashy, so he’s worth more still.
Sergio DEFINITELY has value league wide, certainly more than Gray, even though Gray has value also as a 7 footer who can at least be on the court and not be as bad as Ha Seung Jinn.
Sergio is still young enough where all of his flaws can be covered up by saying he’ll get better at it, and what he does well we can assume will get better. It’s the magic of youth!
His passing, ballhandling, and creativity (along with the youth) give him value. His raw numbers won’t, but his style compensates for that.
And, his Euro-ness.

I'm trying to think of the last relevant Euro deal that was similar to Sergio's situation
Probably Beno Udrih and cash for a protected second round pick from San Antonio to Minny, who went on to waive Udrih so he signed with the Kings where he improved considerably and now of course would have more value.

Glad to hear that this rumor is looking to be bogus...
I’d much rather have a pass first PG in Sergio than a 5 ft something, trigger happy one in Robinson. I think that Nate’s numbers are inflated from playing on a bad NY team and now by being in D’Antoni’s system. Of course he might look good on paper but I just don’t like the thought of him in Portland’s system.

I'll just say
I would LOVE for Nate-Rob to be here. First and foremost, having Huskies on the Blazers is a good thing. Everytime I see ugly ducks cheer on Roy it warms my heart. Second, Nate is the most athletic person I’ve seen in person. Seriously a freak of nature. I tried guarding him in a pick-up game (not my idea) and it didn’t go well, I’m pretty sure he jumped over my head a time or eight. He’d be a spark on offense to say the least.
He’s a good teammate on the court and locker room and loves to take the big shots, no fear. Plus, this way his mom could come see more of his games and I promise everyone in the Rose Garden would hear her.

Yeah, HE would be okay with him taking the big shots
I, Mortimer, would not be okay with Nate Robinson taking the big shots, but Nate Robinson would take the big shots anyway because he is a ballhog with no conscience.
I want our role players to know their role, not have delusions of grandeur and not care about the pecking order.
Hell, the fact Nate Robinson once played above Roy in the pecking order might make him subconsciously believe he still is above Roy, and wanna act like it too, because he knows Roy as the kid below him, not the allstar.

I hope this is true just so we get to see exactly what Sergio is capable of. He deserves his shot.

Blazers' Edge
Where a false trade rumor, without even a link to support it and that doesn’t work under the salary cap, gets rec’d to the top.
Why haven’t people transferred their recs from this one to the boycott one? You like having people lie to you?
Maybe this is why some people vote for politicians that they know are lying to them, just because they wish the lies were true. I could draw analogies, but I won’t.

lol
in all fairness tho…any reported rumor is going to get discussed and recced so that it doesn’t fall off the page. seems like for every “breaking” news we hear there is like 10 different posts using the same topic so usually just 1 gets “recced” and becomes the official thread. remember how many vote for rudy posts there were?

Oh, and
it only had six recs when this was reported to be a fake, and two people rec’d it after that. Which to me is bizarro world, but maybe they liked part of the discussion. Who knows?
