Around SBN: Nevin Shapiro Vows To Bring Down Miami

I dont mean to add to the D. Miles garbage but.......

I just checked the NBA.com boxscore and saw Miles scored 13 points in roughly 13 minutes. This is not the sign of a player injured past the point they cant play anymore, if you can score 13 points in 13 minutes in the NBA (garbage times or primetime) that means you can still help the team you play for. Period. I was in-favor personally of the "e-mail" and its message. I now think Darius can play and resume his career and honestly good for him. I never had any hard feelings personally towards Darius, he would not fit with our team currently but i allways liked his play. When he actually did play that is. Has Memphis played Darius 2-3 minutes tonight with a 0-0-0 box line and did the same again in game #10 i would be fuming as i am sure management would but since this isnt the case now i am ok calling it water under the bridge. His 9 million while inconvenient isnt life ending, we arent the NY knicks or anything.(ya know 2010?) This is my humble opinion on a subject i honestly think has been blown WAY out of proportion and will be glad when our wins against good teams rule the headlines. Go Zers!!!!!

we are already past this one

Didn't we say

that we dont want people calling the Blazers the Zers because its just stupid? I thought the Zers thing is just an OregonLive thing.

If we are going to shorten Blazers it has to be

Lazers. Because Lazers are cool.

Wow

Thanks for the douche-tastic reply, i will call my blazers the “Zers” if i want and will root for them anyway i want……its called freedom. I would never be caught dead telling someone else how to refer to our team. I love all our fans even the douchey ones and hope no one else gts offended my my reference to our team as the “Zers”

I ment it as a joke

In my 20+ years of being a fan, this is the first season I have even heard the Blazers called the “zers.” But you are right, you do have the right to call them whatever you please. Maybe it will catch on? Or maybe it’ll be like that new logo we had for a couple seasons. Who knows?

You are really out of bounds calling our team the Zers!

This will serve as your first and only warning!

Look at the boxscore...

I’m guessing they threw him out there in the 4th quarter of a losing game, and fed him the ball in the post.

by SamGoody on Jan 13, 2009 10:49 PM PST reply actions

I watched and you're exactly right

Third quarter actually, but they were losing anyways.

And they did feed him the ball in the post or on the baseline many times.

by Bust a Bucket on Jan 13, 2009 10:56 PM PST up reply actions

he went 5-7 from the field

and 3-4 from the FT line in 13 minutes, so he really did have a decent game.

From the back of Travis Outlaw's Franz card: Travis leads the team in monstrous thunder dunks, wins awards for post game interviews, and often gets extra points for degree of difficulty.

by TheOdenator on Jan 13, 2009 11:02 PM PST up reply actions

my point is this...

not that he didn’t have a good game but what type of game he played. Again my guess is postups close to the basket, limited mobility, but he’s 6’9’’ I would hope that he could the ball in the hoop. please some one who watched the game confirm this or set me straight. I readily admit I haven’t watched the game yet.

by SamGoody on Jan 13, 2009 11:08 PM PST up reply actions

fairly accurate

and he missed a wide-open fastbreak dunk… clanked the ball off the back of the rim.

I hear ya....

i fully understand his points were scored in garbage time, MY point was that regardless of garbage or prime time, to score 13 points in 13 minutes against NBA players it not easy. I dont care if they are starters or 3rd string, NBA players are the best in the world. Just to re-enforce, i played highschool basketball and was a decent player……….if i was out of my mind and in the zone of all zones, i am not good enough to put up 13 points in 13 minutes against that kind of talent…….a player who is “career” endingly(sp?) injured should not be able to either. thats all i mean.

What's a Zer?

Seriously though, I don’t believe this has been, or ever should be, about Miles or his desire/ability to rehab his career.

Rather, this has been and should be about the absurbness of the “10-game” rule, and the way it penalizes the former team without an opportunity for a corresponding benefit.

The whole Miles/Memphis/10-game conversation is just a lot of noise that will soon go away, allowing the real story to eventually play out.

Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

This is the Breaking news I want to see tomorrow morning:

Player’s Union sues league for failing to fine Blazers for not following through on sueing the Grizzlies for trying to damage their team by signing Miles to a ten day rather than a longterm contract.

In a countersuit the Miles sued the Grizzlies for using him as pawn in a cap game against the Blazers who in turn sued the league which, in turn, sued the Player’s Union.

I mean, we have all the pieces in place, we just need someone to assassinate an Archduke.

Did anyone notice the rest of the Boxscore?

0’s (zero’s)
No rebounds, offensive or defensive, no assists, no blocked shots, no steals, no TO’s and no fouls. Did he leave the offensive end of the floor? Did he contest at any point?

This also brings his grand totals up to 25 minutes of regular season game time plus the 60 minutes of preseason (and he had a few month break in between). I’d say not quite the final chapter on whether his knee is basketball-ready or not

In reviewing the play-by-play

though it would be nice to see a game tape, Miles was not in for all garbage time. He came in late in the 3rd period, with Memphis only down by 10. It looks like he was being guarded first by Wally Szerbert and then by undrafted rookie Darnell Jackson (again, need game tape). The game got out of hand, he came out, and then came back in when the game really got out of hand. Cleveland was very thin on the front line – no Ben Wallace and no Ilgauskas. I’ll be interested to see what he does against Milsap, if they play him.

Even more impressive are the zeroes he threw across the board in al lother categories lol

Also his 3 +/ is out of this world.

I could probably get hot one night and score 13 in garbage time. Does that mean I’m an NBA player? Of course not. Does that mean Miles knee won’t eventually blow and we’ll all be saying “I told you so?” Of cours enot.

Now thats funny stuff Leeroyjenkins

Memphis being down 10 in the 3rd against any team is not garbage time i hate to burst your bubble. The grizz may suck but they are still and NBA team and NBA teams ANY NBA team is capable of pulling there collective heads out for a few minutes to putting a run together. I also got a chuckle about you being able to “get hot one night and score 13 in garbage time” Unless you played D-1 basketball in college and are still somewhat skilled you actually could not do that, i hate to again burst your bubble. You obviously do not realize the skill level it takes to play in the NBA. Every NBA player, EVERY one is basically a college all star. Funny stuff though.
