I wonder if Shav's going to start to a standing ovation in Philly

and go kiss the 76er logo at center court.

If you think I'm insulting you, I'm insulted that you'd even think that I would think of insulting you.

He was a total fan favorite . . .usta tick some people off how much attention he would get

They identified with his rise from the ashes … everyone told him he was crazy skipping his senior year at Duke and heading out – - then he was passed over in the draft… Philly gave him an invite…he had never been there before and did the usual tourist stuff including the run up the “Rocky” stairs…

When he made the team and it became clear that he would be able to contribute the fans caught on to the Rocky theme thing…he would get wild applause every time he came into the game.

If he shows up back in town and gets in the game, these people will recognize it for sure — because to overcome his injury and play his way back into the league is an even better story than the first one

I’ll be there pulling for that to happen – - It would be a tremendous night for him and for the team, because everyone would know that it was a bit of a special gesture…

KP, you reading this….? Please?

If we’re 2-2 against tough teams with a hurt B-Roy, gotta’ figure 3-1 against weaker competition with B-Roy, despite being on the East Coast.

I think Philly

Will be a little problem for us, so I’m saying 3 wins, and I would be happy with that. 2 wins would be lame, but acceptable considering anything can happen when you are on the road. If we go home with two or less, I might jump out of my car while it’s moving.

But I have no idea which one of these teams we lose to. We could honestly beat all of these teams, and probably lose to all of these teams too. Who knows, really?

The Blazers shalt win Three

No more. No less. Three shalt be the number the Blazers shalt win, and the number of the winning shall be three. Four shalt they not win, nor either win they two, excepting that they then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then, lobbest they thy Holy Basketball of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it…

Chicago. The Robertkittens. And one of the Nets and the Sixers.

Book it.

On that one

we travel from Philly to NJ, very, very short trip. Undoubtedly stay in the same hotel. And the Nets play the night before in Boston — not an easy game, and not a long trip home for them, but longer than ours.

But still, when there is less time to prepare for both teams, the home team has an advantage. So it’s a tough one, but not a normal back-to-back as far as toughness is concerned.

I’m concerned about Philly as well. They are dangerous. And Chicago is 12-6 at home. And Charlotte has won 5 out of their last 10, hardly a walkover. Any one of these could be a loss. None of them should be, but no one wins every game they should, and they all have players that could take over a game on any given night.

I know you can put admiration in bags, because admiration is real, and tominhawaii says that everything that is real is measurable.

NJ

Yeah, but this is NJ we’re talking about. There’s no home court advantage there.

think they had some early injury issues – - might still be, right?

beatable team . . . not as organized as some of the other competition…but they can score points when they are hot..can be trouble like the knicks were to us…but stayin hot 4 q’s is unlikely

Less than great timing if you ask the folks a Blog-a-bull.

Don’t they pretty much hate everyone on their team with the exception of Derrick Rose? And He won’t stay the golden boy forever over there.

But for us, yeah, probably not the best time to have them come back.

If we want to make the playoffs, we need all four of these...

also, we need to see improvement from Oden and Rudy on this trip, along with consistency from Aldridge and Roy… Blake needs 1.5 big games….

Martell better be in PDX working on his foot.

We need at least 2 blowouts…. all of these should be blowouts. As long as J. Quick doesn’t do one of his Harry Potter charms to either the coaches or players, our mental attitude should be top notch every game.

As per players, I like Emeka Okafur, but know we’d never get him…. I also like Devon Harris for NJ – seems like an all around great PG - will be interesting to see whether KP attends the NJ game….

Go Blazers!

Prediction

I see us dropping one, but winning the rest. Sleeping tricks or not, road trips are tough on teams. Winning them all is nice, but 3/4 would still be decent in my book.

As for trades I will eat some crow and say “hey, that rose guy that i thought would be a flash in the pan. yeah, he looks pretty good. maybe we should think about snagging him if we can.”

Greg Oden, where posters happen.

by ratbastird on Jan 12, 2009 1:28 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I know everyone is entitled to his opinion,

but I see one lonely vote for no wins. Really? You know how the Yankees had Murderer’s Row? This road trip is more like Jaywalker Alley given the mediocre teams on the slate. I voted for three because they are on the road, but 4-0 wouldn’t surprise me.

by torsoheap on Jan 12, 2009 2:07 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

I didn't cast the zero win vote

(I’m on record for three), but anything can happen on a road trip.

If Roy aggravates something; if Rudy/Trout/Blake all come out firing blanks; if Oden draws 2 fouls in 2 trips down the floor… things can happen.

by EngineerScotty on Jan 12, 2009 2:12 PM PST up reply actions   0 recs

All good points, but

the poll was more “What do you expect?” not “What is possible?” For someone to honestly expect Portland to lose all four games seems a bit much even for the internet.

Anti Vote

It was probably just an antivote by a Blazer hater. To be honest, I’m surpried that there aren’t more of these.

Anywho, chose 4. Portland is 5-1 on the road against teams with a losing record this season. That one loss is to Golden State and Portland should have gone into OT on that one. (Aldridge also shouldn’t have fouled out. If you’re going to tell a guy he was on the line ref, make sure you’re not wrong by 6 inches.) Moving on. I think Portland understands that they need wins here and won’t take any of these teams lightly.

by Zaig on Jan 12, 2009 2:16 PM PST reply actions   0 recs

Edit

The Overtime was because Rudy was CLEARLY fouled on the final play, not him fouling the Warrior. had Aldridge not gotten that foul it not only would have negated 2 of their points, but kept him on the floor. A probably win. Life goes on though.

Understandable calls though

The ref thought that LA wears size 98 shoes, which would easily have put his feet inside the restricted area.
The ref also thought that Rudy’s jersey attacked his opponent’s hands. Since he can’t call a foul on the jersey, Rudy got it instead.

Not that we here in Portland hold grudges at all… (Was really hoping we’d win the rematch by 40. I guess I can accept letting them have a lead only to crush their hopes.)

NJ can be scary. Especially because Carter can rattle out 30 points like its nothing.

I see NJ as the potential one loss we have on this road trip.

I would be happy with a 3-1 finish.

we are an optimistic bunch now

I’d be okay with 2-2, so that’s what I voted. But I hope for more

can someone loan me $195 so I can get seats right behind the visitor bench in Philly? I’ll pay the train ticket DC-Philly. I promise I’ll make the Blazers feel like they are at the Rose Garden. Shoulder rubs, “Rudy” chants, “MVP” chants when Roy is at the line. I’ll even whisper into “Quick is underwhelmed, Quick is underwhelmed” into GO’s ear to turn him into the Beast that a well-timed Quickslap usually does.

I’ll bring meatbones for Bayless to chew on, sangria for the Spandem, a triple whopper (or “teeple wahpear” in Batumeese) for Nic, something Portland Quirky for Frye, a photo of his grandma for Joel, respect for LA, a play other than Roy iso’ed at the top of the key in the last six minutes of the game for Nate. Who am I forgetting? I have never come back from a Blazer game with my voice intact. I’m not afraid of Philly fans or cops.

But I’m Christmas-thin on cash. Make it happen!

I voted 2 wins

Because if I have low expectations then I probably won’t be disappointed. Let’s hope they win all 4!

A couple things that make me nervous:

1. Chicago is going to be out for revenge, but I think this is a game we will win (it still is very possible that we can lose!)

2. Devin Harris and VC are going to give us all kinds of problems so this game will be difficult for us to win. One thing to keep in mind is that NJ plays Bos then us then Bos again, even though the Celts have had their struggles I am guessing NJ believes that they should win 1 of those 3 and us in their house might be their best chance.

3. Philadelphia is very hot right now, they’ve beaten Houston at home and they beat a very good Atlanta team in Atlanta, which doesn’t happen very often (15-4 record). Beware of the 76ers!

4. Charlotte is 7-8 since the J-Rich trade and is 10-12 at home not very good but not terrible either this game won’t be an automatic win either.

The only acceptable outcome of this trip is 4-0

If the Blazers lose even one of these games it will be a disappointment. A team that can beat Boston and Detroit without their best player should have no trouble winning four games against mid-tier east teams.
