Lets face it...Memphis needs the money.
First fan post, so go easy on me.. ;)
#27 in team net value
They need publicity and fans in the seats any way they can get it.
Unfortunately for them, I think that they may not be looking ahead at the reaction that other owners / GMs in the league will have. There have to be some guys out there with the mindset that if they were in this position, they would be just as angry as the blazers. Maybe the silver lining to all of this is that Memphis just blackballed itself. :)

Check out their web site.
Look at some of the thumbnails, and look at the crowd (using the term loosely). It looks like the Rose Garden an hour and a half before tip off.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
No joke it looks like what would happen here after a couple of feet of snow! :)

I swear some of those games look like
someone could sneeze in the upper deck, and they’d be able to hear it on the court. I remember Steve Young of the 49ers said he got his start in arena football. He said that some of the games had so few people that they had to whisped durring time outs so the other team could not hear them talking. That must be what it’s like there on some nights.

Don't forget -- they gave away Pau Gasol to the L**ers for practically nothing.
That alone earns my loathing.

In retrospect, that is wrong. Like most lopsided trades not being as lopsided after all
- They got Marc Gasol out of it, who arguably has at least the impact Rudy has on us since he starts for them and posts great numbers. And his style fits their play and needs better than the finesse of his brother. He is also considerably younger.
- They got Javaris Crittenton, whom they traded to Washington to get their pick from the Navarro deal back. Always valuable
- With the expiring deals of McKie and Brown, they saved a ton of cap space
- Which will enable them to go after free agents in 09 and/or 10
- They tanked, got a #3 draft pick, that landed them O.J. Mayo
- I’m probably forgetting something, but the result doesn’t look that bad
Good analysis
At the time, Marc was still making the transition from skilled big fat guy (kind of a Spanish Stanley Roberts – nice game, but could only go in 2 minute spurts) to a skilled big guy. He’s a legit NBA starting center, and by himself (if he continues progressing, or even stays around this level of production) he changes the deal from horribly lopsided to favorable for the L*ckers, but not obscene.

Fact check: of course they landed the #5 pick and Kevin Love, then traded him and Miller for Mayo. Which might look like another lopsided deal this time towards the Grizzlies since Mayo scores a lot more, but Love is the more complete player and Miller was a good addition so that again is not so bad.
I liked it because Mayo wasn't going to stay there
If Love turns out to be serviceable, there is a better chance he’ll stay there for a long time because he’s a dork.
It's not a matter of being lopsided
It’s a matter of giving the Lakers a ticket to the NBA finals for almost nothing and Kwame Brown. Yeah, they got Marc Gasol, who is actually good, but they should’ve at least taken someone from the Lakers’ rotation.
I honestly think
that they could be heading to Seattle/KC/someplace else in 2-3 years. They’re losing money, there’s no fan base, it’s a bad situation. Kind of unfortunate, because between Mayo, Gay, Gasol, Lowry, and Conley they have some very talented young players, but I’m guessing they end up like the loaded Clippers squad (ironically, the starting point for the suddenly relevant D Miles) that got busted up before they could turn into to a force in the league.
