How will you greet Darius (assuming his knee doesn't explode first)?
Feb. 18, Memphis comes to Portland. It's like 18 games away for us and I'm not sure how many Memphis will play in that span but I'm sure they will have to give him another 10 day contract for him to make it to Portland for that game. Personally, I understand Darius' perspective. He knows he's gambling with his knee everytime he steps out in the court but he probably isn't thinking about the long term damage right now. Hopefully he understands that the Grizzlies (or any other NBA team out there) really doesn't give a crap about him and he's only trying to stick it to the Blazers. It would be sorta sad if he really thought that Memphis actually thinks he's anything more than what he means to the free agent market. It would be like saying RLEC is anything more than his contract. Sorry dude but you're not even a person anymore. You are now DMBSC (Darius Miles' Blazers Screwing Contract). I would feel better knowing that Darius is just a spiteful person rather than think he actually feels like he can contribute to a team this year.
Anyway, my question is how will you react (if you are going to be in the RG) when Darius takes the court? And by "takes the court" I mean in the last 2 minutes of (hopefully) a Blazer's blowout.

As much as I disliked him as a blazer...
I can’t really boo the guy just because he wants to play. It sucks for the blazers, but its not like by him playing he get more money from the blazers, then I would boo… the fact that portland gets that money back under the salary cap is just an unfortunate consequence. Who knows..maybe he really wasn’t hurt that bad, and Portland pushed the doctors into giving the ruling they did so they could in effect get rid of him.

im wondering how portland would "push" the doctors into giving a "favorable" ruling
i would also wonder how the insurance company, wich is paying 80 percent, i believe would feal about that

i wish him well. why not?
when he plays well he’s a cool player to watch. i was sorry he got hurt.
ignacio
I won't cheer or boo.
I wish he would have worked as hard training for our team as he did this off season to play for another team.
My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.
Sorry, I'm working on my sign ideas for Feb. 11.
That’s when the Team That Was Ripped From Seattle comes to the RG.

Didn't we discuss wearing all green on that day?
Get Sonic’s fans to send their Sonic Jerseys down for the game etc…
I think if the rose garden was green it would cause a great ripple throughout the league.

I voted for the chant option
I didn’t care for Darius as a player and he doesn’t seem like a great person, from what I’ve read about him, but I don’t want to boo the guy just because him pursuing his livelihood isn’t the Blazers’ number one option. Starting a “Mem-phis sucks!” chant, on the other hand….let’s cast the blame at the feet of the REAL culprit.
I think Paul Allen should just buy the arena that the grizzlies play in.
And never….ever clean it. Maybe get the same food company that guy running the food program for the prisons was using (where he would buy food that was expired for a cheap price).
I want to see rats running across the court on national tv.

You have to think....
PA and the blazers are not going to let Memphis get away with this without some repercussions. As the saying goes “You mess with the bull, you get the horns.” And Paul Allen has ~$16 billion horns.
Maybe he could buy whatever TV network or cable company airs the Grizzlies…and shut it down. He could buy the company that they charter busses from, and put them on school busses. He could buy the airport they fly in and out of…and make them do circling patterns for five hours every time they want to land. The possibilities for revenge are endless. PA will get his moneys worth…that I am sure of.
he could hire norm mcdonnald even

maybe he'll let Comcast cover Grizzlies games
though that would kind of necessitate fans who want to watch Miles and Steve Francis play (trade brings up a valid point)
Or he could
buy the grizzlies through secret funds and then run the team into the ground while trading OJ Mayo to Portland in exchange for RLEC, Diogu and Channing.

Yeah at a geriatric home for the blind. And I rake in the pennies!
No one of my buddies wanted to go to the safari club for his bday and not long after we got there miles and his crew rolled in, and busted out a stack of ones prolly 5-600 thick. So his crew was sitting behind us and every once in a while he would give a stack to his boy who would throw it at the stage. It was hilarious and sickening at the same time, as this was supposed to be when he was trying to rehab, and instead he was looking fat, throwing back drinks and given the bouncers fits. They were scrambling to pick up the ones before we could grab them, and demanding we hand them over. But they didn’t get all of them, and I have three dollars of the dirty, dirty money in a safe place that I will never spend. I felt like it was owed to me as a fan.

acknowledge that he has came a long ways. I admire his grit; he could have just sat at home eating doughnuts and collect his money, but he seems to have worked his butt off to get back, albeit probably only 50% of his former self. It’s America, you have to admire hard work.

Yup
I kind of disliked him when he played for the Blazeres (especially when he started mailing it in and became an off-court distraction) but he’s definitely showed more heart than I thought he had in him, coming back from this injury.
Frankly I think a lot of the negativity surrounding Miles got whipped up by Canzano’s (seemingly) personal grudge that got played out in the oregonian on a regular basis. By all accounts none of the current Blazers had a particular problem with the guy.

Not happy with the outcome, but it is unprecedented for someone to come back from medical retirement. It is an accomplishment!

That’s EXACTLY why I can’t root for him. Wasn’t that what he was doing when he “played” for the Blazers and had his injury? It’s like some sort of Vince Carter situation.

We should have Darius Miles Bobblehead night
Perhaps they could be modified into Darius Miles Bobbleknees. Everyone could also dress up in bear costumes, and hold up posters of “The Perfect Score” when Memphis shoots freethrows.
Can I buy you a fish sandwich?
This would be fantastic. Make a darius figure...
That when you press the button its knees buckle. And just ship one to the grizzlies front office.

I would give the man some applause...
If this is just a story of redemption and rehabilitation then that is the appropriate response….If there are other things going on, it still leaves us in the proper position as people look back on this episode

I am glad that this post, unlike most of the others, is filled with people who recognize Miles isn’t trying to screw the blazers and he just wants to play. Maybe its because the more sane posters post in the morning, or maybe its just because he got re-signed so we can stop fussing about whether or not it will happen. But I agree with the majority of posters here.
I admire Miles for coming back from a “career-ending injury” that is baller no matter who you are, even if you aren’t like personally by Portland fans.
Yes, screw Memphis but whatever, Miles just wants to play, I won’t boo him but I am afraid quite a few others will which will make Portland look real bad (as if we don’t already from those emails).
agree completely.
Still, I wish I was there first-hand to see Miles’ rehab efforts when he was with us. Was he really trying or not? Did Pritchard just want to wash Darius out the door and finish the rebuild of the new Blazers, or was Darius slacking and not putting forth effort to getting back into game shape?
If you think I'm insulting you, I'm insulted that you'd even think that I would think of insulting you.

In all honesty...
As much as I really like KP and where this team is headed… I have a gut feeling that the blazers were looking for any possible way to get rid of Miles, and may have influenced the retirement. Of course…Darius was also getting paid 9 mil the next two years, so why couldn’t he hold off until the 2011 season?
exactly
He was pushed out the door. However, I have no problem with that, and wish Darius the best.

KP and the organization wanted nothing to do with him (rightfully so, imo, based on his conduct) but the guy has a right to play if someone wants to pay him. If I’m at that game, my reaction to Miles will probably be indifference.

ive read every single miles based thread, over 2500 comments, and its not even 50 that thought miles was trying to skrew portland
im really suprised that you saw it that way. the vast majority of posters look at the other gms as the primary plotters in this. miles has been questioned only sparingly. posters HAVE openly hated on him, and i kan hardly blame them. when he was hear, he said he didnt love basketbal, and ackted indiferent to even coming back. his work ethik was sonstantly in question. once he lost his oprotunity, then and only then did he see its value.
if he actually plays meaningful minutes, and is still on the team, ill probably be amased, and may be impressed, but most likely worried for him, i couse i really du believe the doctors when they say, that if he continues to play, then he will most certainly have to have a knee replacement surgery. i will NOT aploud. i will not apploud his inevitable phisikle destruction.
i really have no idea what he wants from this. duz he want another five year run? will two be enough? will he go euro when hes dune hear? or duz he just want the fealing of one more big game? duz he just want to take over one more game? i have no idea what he wants, but i sure know what hes going to get, or at least i kan spekulate alot more realistikly.hes gonna criplle himself. or hes gonna play untill the gm’z are dune with him.
any ways, my original point is that while yeah, there were people hating on miles, very, very few were really blaming him. and there were several, that in the midst of the most heated discution, were wishing miles well.

I have to admit I haven’t read all the comments from all those posts, but the ones I did read, that was the impression I got,
Not necessarily that Miles was trying to solely screw the blazers, but more like he wasn’t deserving of trying to make a come back.
thers truth, and quite a bit of it in your last statement
i think people are resentful of miles becouse he never displayed half the work ethik that oden or even zboe displayed, while going through his rehab. most people dont get to throw away oprotunity and get a second chance like nothing happened. so alot of people think that infact, he has allready used his oprotunity. and the fact that we have to pay for it makes it a seriously more dificlut thing to aploud. not only were we spurned by his seamingly lack of care, but now also by his sudden overabundence of try hard. i want for the guy to find peace of mind, and a way to be useful and fulfilled in his life, but i fear that hes going aboout it the wrong way. i believe the doctors, but for his sake, i hope there wrong

I’m just entirely convinced – that by my definition – he can’t play NBA level ball anymore. And I don’t want my team to get screwed because other teams are manipulating the situation.

I see it as kind of a weird/bad breakup with a girlfriend
that after a time of forgetting about her and moving on with a nicer, sexier one, the old one shows up dating one of your friends. Its annoying and you want to take the low road but in the end you just act civil and can’t be real mad…. if that makes any sense
You may not like the man or his bling or his choice of automobiles or the way he spends his free time...
