D-Wade: Rudy is for real

Dwayne did an interview with ESPN the Magazine (via TrueHoop's daily bullets... where else?) and had very nice things to say about the Blazers Spanish import.

Link.

Personally, I love it when other players talk about how great one of the Blazers players are. To me it has even more meaning coming from a former Finals MVP.

It's a pretty short blurp, but enough to put a smile on your face.

Read away.

it's the off season...

it’s Blazer related and important (in relation to the black hole of info we get during the off season), so this practically is major news, . And I got 75 words.

woof.

yeah dude, I did...

that’s why I quoted it (Blazer related, important, 75 words) in my somewhat sarcastic reply to you.

To be honest, I wanted people to actually see it, read it, and respond to it, so I made it a fanpost… totally selfish of me, I know (sorry dave and community). However, I don’t post often, and when I do it isn’t some stupid trade proposal or some total junk, so I felt somewhat justified.

Also, per the post you’re referring to, I actually have until next week to err like I did. Thank you, CBM, for dropping your ever-so-subtle reminder that this should be a fanshot… I appreciate your taking serious the civic duty of keeping this site organized.

Woof.

I see your point.

Fanshots usually get about 7-10 comments. Maybe it will start getting better after Dave’s ground rules.

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

"an unbelievable talent"

Thanks, yougottomakeyourfreethows. Here’s the main statement from D Wade:

ESPN: Who is the most talented international player you played against this summer that’s not already in the league?

Dwyane Wade: “The new guy from Spain that went to Portland—Rudy Fernandez—he’s an unbelievable talent. The way he shoots the ball and how athletic he is, I’m sure Nate McMillan didn’t want him to play like that against us, but I’m sure he was smiling on the inside.”

We knew that Rudy can shoot. Now it’s great to hear D Wade confirm his athleticism. (Remember that D Wade also called Brandon “a more controlled version of me” – this might not be the exact quote).

I guess Nate just couldn’t hide his internal Olympic smile. When you’re smilin’ on the inside, the whole world knows it. B Edge fans have been smiling on the inside for months. In a few weeks we’ll be smiling on the outside!

Nate coaching Olympians vs his own team

Does anybody think Nate might actually treat Rudy like any other rookie? Im still not convinced Nate is going to let Rudy play thru his defensive lapses.

Winning is everything.

Dunno if you'll find a link

It was during either a ESPN or a TNT game where our Beloved Blazers played the dastardly Miami Heat(s).

You know, how they cut to an earlier interview with a player or coach talking about the upcoming game and its participants, with a black background. Wade discussed how similar Roy is to him, style wise, except Roy turns the ball over a LOT less and is more in control.

I think it’s a fair assessment. Wade has had games with over 10 turnovers… I can’t imagine Roy doing that.

But, Wade will have some highlight plays that will blow your mind. Roy can, but not as regular as Wade does it.

OT: Melo: Oden is for real
Chris (St. Paul, MN): Any rookie of the year predictions ?
Carmelo Anthony: (10:13 AM ET ) Greg Oden.

Godish (Chicago): Are you going to posterize Greg Oden this year?
Carmelo Anthony: (10:14 AM ET ) I’m going to try.

Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

Carmelo Anthony...

Has a poster of himself standing back-to-back with JESUS, holding a basketball (Jesus holding the world), standing in a pool of blood and it says, “Blood Brothers!” (from Cribs)

Joking aside

I know you mean no harm, so no foul, but the silly stuff I post here becomes disrespectful if I accept that comparison. Even if it weren’t for my faith, it would be disrespectful of the faith of others.

I appreciate your joining in the joke, too, that makes it more fun, I’m just asking that you not join that way.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

by jscot on Sep 10, 2008 2:35 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

You WILL know, indeed

I am the future ruler of the world. So I have declared on BE repeatedly, and so it must be. All WILL know me, at their peril, and WILL love me as their leader.

But in real life, I’m a Christian, and actually pretty serious about my faith, so I get pretty uncomfortable with anything that might be comparing the silly “ruler of the world” persona with Jesus.

Now you know as much about “what this is about” as is good for you. If you choose to become my acolyte now, you will learn more soon enough, and will receive an exalted position in my administration when I rule the world. If you choose not to become my acolyte, you will learn more later — too late for you.

I have spoken.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

by jscot on Sep 10, 2008 11:55 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

This is a tricky one...

I didn’t mean that it showed a picture of what is widely considered to be Jesus’ image and that you are He. That would be in poor taste, IMO.

Rather, I meant that you look similar to this image of what is considered to be Jesus. Basically, I’m saying that you have long, somewhat shaggy hair and a beard. And, as ruler of the world, you are holding it in your hand.

I didn’t mean to insinuate anything else and apologize if it was taken that way… that’s generally a direction in conversation I always try to avoid. Though not deeply religious, I could see the cringing if that were the corralation I was going for.

by you'vegottomakeyourfreethrows on Sep 10, 2008 3:44 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

Thanks, no problem

I didn’t know how you meant it, but it was borderline, and I don’t want to go there.

Actually, I have short hair, and my wife didn’t take long to tell me that she preferred kissing me sans facial hair. Since I prefer having her prefer to kiss me, I lost the facial hair real fast.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

I agree Y5K

I’m gonna commission a painting of the same thing when I get some paintin’-commissionin’ money. The FOLDING kind of cash, dontcha know!

Just me and Jesus, standing in a puddle of the entrails of our enemies, both wearing retro Blazer headbands. Back to back, because we got each other’s back.

IF it can be painted in the actual blood of my enemies, it will have more meaning and probably even look nicer, but we’ll cross that bridge when we approach the bridge and are about to cross it.

Clearing Room For The Blazers Out West

As the playoff picture begins to take shape it becomes clear that the Western Conference is one big game of musical chairs. There are nine viable playoff teams; unfortunately there are only eight playoff spots. For the Blazers to get a spot, one of last year's playoff teams needs to fall off. Someone's going to be caught standing when the music stops. The following are possible scenarios that could derail each team on their quest for playoff glory, helping the Blazers get back to the postseason for the first time since 2003.
