that kid has a lot to learn
He is very lucky to be joining a team full of like-minded players. All of them innocent and straight-edged like the rude dawg.
Winning is everything.

Culture shock time for Rudy
There is something charming about Rudy’s innocence. Even that Chinese eyes advertisment that stirred controversy during the Olympics just showed how Rudy is going to act like a 4th grade school boy sometimes. But I’m sure there are also parts of his culture that are more mature, like his treatment of money, sex and other things where Americans tend to be less insightful than Europeans. That’s what makes exchanging ideas with others so enriching. You learn to see things in different ways and so does the other person.

seems that most of the rookies
don’t learn a whole lot from these classes.
But maybe without them it would be even worse.
I don’t imagine that 20 year old men are the best audience to try to keep away from drugs, women, and overspending (no offense guys).

HOW.
DARE.
YOU.
I’m going to go snort coke (that I paid too much for) off of the naked bosom of a young woman that I also paid too much for JUST TO TEACH YOU A LESSON THAT NOT ALL MEN ARE ALIKE.
I think the class helps a lil’, mainly giving the smart responsible players more info about saving money and preparing for retirement (plus to alert sheltered guys like Rudy about the dangers of being rich n’ handsome), but there is no reaching some dumb players who are just dreaming of how to waste all of their money while the Rookie Transition Program speakers tell them not to repeat the same mistakes legions of athletes did before them.
Overall, the class is a good idea and I wouldn’t mind it, as a fan who wants to see these players make the “right” decisions and be educated about their money, having something like this that continues throughout their career. Maybe as a 20 year old, this is boring as hell, but when ya hit 27, 28, the priorities change and if the NBA offered this sort of class (maybe even made it required sometime within a 5 year window of one’s career, like after their rookie deal is up or so) once guys have grown up some it could make even more of a difference in their post-athletic careers.
Young people are dumb, so it’s hard to stop them from being dumb, so I favor continuing it later on as well.

There recently was an article about the NBPA offering executive business courses
In collaboration with Kellogg. They have statistics that a large percentage of former players is more or less broke 5 years after their careers ended and the paychecks stop, taking financial matters into your own hands and serious is really important for these guys since they are constantly presented with bad ways to spend or “invest” it. But it’s not required, just an offer. The NFL is doing courses like this for years.
Henry Abbott also had some interesting remarks about the contents of the rookie program and that it’s one of the few times the NBA truly cares about the young players last week on TrueHoop. After that, you are more or less back on your own, so it’s really dumb to screw that up.
Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

We'll have to keep him clear of the Burnside strip.
It’d be like a sheep amidst wolves down there.
