Duckworth Memorial Patch

Hot off the presses from the Blazers:

TRAIL BLAZERS TO HONOR KEVIN DUCKWORTH WITH MEMORIAL JERSEY STRIPE THIS SEASON

Team will also wear a patch on warm-ups, shooting shirts

PORTLAND, Ore. - At media day this afternoon, the Portland Trail Blazers will introduce a memorial stripe on their jerseys which will be worn during the 2008-09 season in honor of the late Kevin Duckworth. The team will also wear a patch on its warm-ups and shooting shirts.

All three uniforms (home, road, alternative) will feature a black stripe with a white "00" stitched into the upper left shoulder of the jersey. The black patch on the warm-ups and shooting shirts will read "DUCK" in red and "00" below it in white.

Glad to hear that

I’d like to buy a patch to put on one of my old Duck era shirts that I still wear to games. Hope something similar becomes available to the public.

Good idea, the proceeds of special shirts and patches could go into the memorial fund

I also like the thought of honoring Duck all season and not only with a one-time moment of silence.

I like it too

I was hoping the Blazers were going to honor Duck like this, and I think it is perfect.

The 00 black band is a great way to remember ol’ Duckworth, and I’d like to get something like that as well.

Ditto. A nice tribute with personality.

Wish we had a photo … but I guess it’s only a few days away.

Who is #46?

Looks nice, and I’m glad we’re keeping the grey smaller stripe on the jersey… because the rookie pics of Rudy and Bayless seemed to replace the grey stripe with another smaller white stripe.

Not that that is important right now.

Huzzah for remembering Duck in a great way!

#46

is a ghost player, I guess. I bought some NBA licensed Blazer fabric and there is a jersey with #46 pictured on it too. NBA must figure we’ll never have a player with that number. Anyone who sees the fabric always asks though.

That's awesome too

I’ve gone to the fabric stores with my Fiancee to get stuff for her various crafts, and I see they always have some NBA teams in fabric form but never MY Blazers.

If I ever find it I will get her to make me a Blazers pillow, or perhaps a Blazers cape to wear to the season opener down here in LA.

What did you make out of your Blazer fabric?

You can get it

from JoAnn’s Fabric online

I used it to back a red, black & white quilt I made for my grandson and have used it for other small things. I want to make a shirt for me to wear to the games.

No items match your search for NBA

wah wah wah.

May I instead direct you to the official couch of the PTB?

Or you could just be boring and buy some trailblazer fabric for 8 bucks a yard at some random fabrique store.

As KP is my witness

Someday I will be successful enough to warrant having a room just for my Blazer fandom, and that couch will be the couch I sit on in that room.

Now I FINALLY have something to work towards!

The fabric is cool just because it is a Blazer fabric, but prolly a lil’ too “busy” for a nice, flowing cape… I might gotta get my fiancee to makeshift it up a bit, getting the right colors and sewing them together and creating our own pinwheel on it somewhere.

At the very least, now I know my Blazer cape is something possible and attainable, along with a Blazer couch. Somewhere up there Duck is winking at me and giving me a thumbs up.

That sofa is not even outrageously expensive

And it looks comfy. Depending on where you sit in the Garden, you could save for that sofa with just selling/skipping a few tickets.

I wanna add it to my lucky headband

Duck will be our “6th man”, like in the movie “The 6th Man” and help lift guys up to dunk from halfcourt and block every shot the other team takes.

WOW!

I never believed in reincarnation, but that sounds like what I thought Greg was going to do this year.

The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.
The pick and roll this year will emphasize "roll" followed by "dunk", followed by the wailings and lamentations of your women.

Right on!

My favorite teams are the Blazers and any team that is playing the Lakers.

by OCBlazerFan1 on Sep 29, 2008 2:00 PM PDT reply actions

Good.

This is just the sort of thing that I like seeing the organization do and is an indication that they’ve severed all ties with the ‘Jail Blazers’ era by honoring those team members who were important. Contrast this with the death of Herm Gilliam in 2005 – no actions were taken by Patterson / Nash.

Now if they could only retire Terry Porter’s jersey…

Nothing new for me to add,

but I still wanted to chime in and say what a classy move this is by the organization.

Awesome (+points)

Wouldn’t it be something if the Duckworth jerseys infused this season’s team with a jolt of early 90’s Blazer Power and then the team suddenly went buck wild and….

nah..

This is a classy gesture. Well done, Trail Blazers, well done.
