Blazers sign Livingston?
Apparently the blazers have signed livingston. I like the move. It's a no risk signing, although odds are he will never be back to his pre injury form, he's still a unique talent. I was listening to the quick chat yesterday, and quick said that if the blazers do sign livingston, it'd be for the future, that if he does indeed get healthy in 3 years, then we can bolser our pg depth in the future. He doesn't expect him to play this year. Although, if he can run, I don't see why he shouldn't get sergio's minutes. I really like him as a 3rd string pg, and if he can actal,ly play in the futre, then it's a great move. Otherwise, he's just a 15th man, no biggie.

Possibly
Two, three years down the road this could be a huge day.

But according to the Raleigh News Observer
We’re signing Shavlik Randolph. Someone is jumping the gun.

These aren't "last spot" guaranteed signings though, right?
Just “signed for training camp and a chance to make the 15th spot” signings, which I presume Livingston would have the edge for right now (based on his youth and history).
I DARE you to tell me I am wrong. C’mon, BRING IT.

If
Livingston is going to sign it will probably be for a guranteed spot. I dont think he would run the risk of having to win a spot since I dont think he can beacsue of his inury. If indeed he’s signed that means that Hill, Jackson and everyone else wont be playing on the Blazers this NBA season.

That's what I would think to
So it could be good or bad if he signs with us for a non-guaranteed deal. Good cuz KP and Friends see something left in the kid, bad because he didn’t show enough to get a guaranteed deal with some of the other teams that could use a young high-potential PG for cheap.
Livingston has always been hurt, so maybe a guaranteed deal just wasn’t available, no matter how he looked.
Still leaves a lot of questions if he’s a Blazer, since we have so little room in our guard rotation.

Is another deal in the works?
Because if Livingston is signed to a guaranteed deal and all 15 roster spots are locked in, there’s not much incentive for guys like Hill, Jackson, Tatum or Randolph to attend training camp.
A Sergio + LaFrentz deal to a team like the Knicks might make some sense. Free up a roster spot and make some room for SL in the backcourt?

If we really are
That means KP wins again!
Because Livingston HAS to gots SUMTHIN’ left if KP is signing him.
I dunno why Livingston went to a place where he won’t play though… Hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Well, if he can play, I like the move as a flat out talent accrual type dealio. Another piece to use in a consolidation trade, or he regains his form as a big pass first PG. If he can move up and down the court he will likely be better than Sergio.
He was an amazing passer but so incredibly skinny. With all of his injuries since he came into the league, I wonder if his body simply can’t handle this sort of work. But, he’ll also be a lightning rod for all of the team-wide injuries so no one else will get struck.
It is an interesting turn of events, and sounds like something sorta cool… if if if if if he is healthy and whatnot.
Like you said, it is a low risk move. He’ll only play if he’s good, and we got the time to help get him healthy.

Can Paul Allen Just Buy a Euro Team?
If Allen had a kind of D-League franchise in Europe to stash players, then it would be all good. Hill, Luke Jackson, Kopponennennen, etc (Sergio, maybe), could all be stacked over there like cord wood. And he wouln’t have to worry about huge buy-outs. He could rotate players by “trading” them with this external league, subject to the conditions of the collective bargaining agreement.
Could this be legal within NBA rules for owners? If it is, is buying a Euro-Blazer franchise KP’s next move? Do they need a scout/assistant bottle washer? I guess if we don’t worry about them playing, he could stash them in his own private minor league here in the states — a league of their own. Especially for non-NBA players the league and union had no say over.

If it is real...
…and if Livingston is healthy enough to play Sergio level of minutes (which were already going to be scarce), then Sergio could be in trouble.
HOWEVER, if this move is a move for the future, for when they imagine Livingston’s long rehab is complete and our rotation won’t be disturbed for most of this season, I could see it making more sense. Our roster will be consolidated somewhat by then (in theory), Livingston has a lot of potential or at least good trade value if he proves he is healthy-esque, and we can rehab him ourselves while owning his rights and not worrying about whether we could get him.
I’d need to know more to decide if this is good or bad, especially if it is a non-guaranteed deal. I know the kid was very talented before, wasn’t ever all that athletic, but to be effective he has to be a tall PG, not a small SG or SF.
This is when it is a good thing to have a GM we all trust, because every move makes sense when you got KP making them.

If it is real, I gotta think it is not for the now and our already stuffed rotation isn’t getting any bigger.
Or, other moves are planned and he is seen as our 3rd string non-Sergio PG, and someone (say, Sergio) is being traded.

If this move happens (not over the NBA wire yet), it is a classic KP move aimed at 2-3 years down the road and then it is genius
At this time Sergio will be gone, and possibly Blake. Nate has already stated this year he wants to tighten things up to a 9 man rotation, maximum 10. By all accounts that’s Blake, Roy, Webster, Aldridge, Oden, Bayless, Rudy, Outlaw, Frye, Pryz. At times Diogu and Sergio, and even they won’t see much time unless there are more injuries. It doesn’t really matter this year who is 13 – 15.
Regarding his injury, I already stated my opinion on that in the Fanshots. To make it short, it is possible to come back from this kind of injury.

Excuse me I was trying really hard to be irrational
and you and Mort HAD to respond w/ some very rational , albeit sarcastic insight.
Im not gonna sell him short. I know very little of him, but hear from a Clipps fan that he was known for his hard work. Because of his age, we can safely assume that with the conservative rehad sched and his hard work rep preceding him, that he is really doing just fine. I trust KP but even he has admitted he is super impulsive.
Gawd I hope this doesn’t come back to bite us in the arse. But then we can argue, what did we lose Blake or/and Sergio? I dunno.. only time can tell.
The erraticly optimistic side of me is envisioning a monster comeback of Livingston that pretty much enshrines KP ’s AWESOME GODNESS into the history books for all of time.

Honestly though, I’m just a simple man, trying to get by… one day at a time…
If he became a Blazer, he’d be the only current Blazer I have met in person. Same bar/restaurant I met KP at, Livingston was with a not-cute-enough lady friend (and he is much too young to settle) who probably has a bad personality to boot, and he was maybe the skinniest person I have ever seen.
I truly don’t like to bug celebrities, but I’ll bug an NBA person. I said “hey what’s up Shaun” and he said “cool man, what’s up” and we did a cool-guy handshake and now we are friends for life.
As of press time, I am not ready to comment on the fact that Livingston is likely choosing to play for Portland because of our friendship.

This is a move I don’ t agree with unless there’s more than we see, much like the new york move to get rid of Zach.
We’re either stating our point guard situation is NOT answered and we’re diluting playing time with yet another PG, or we’re making a future move.
KP hasn’t been a blatant idiot yet, so I assume another move will be coming or this is misinformation.

You’re trying to defend waterbugs like CP3, Parker, Nash, etc
Add Shawn to the list of Blazer “point” guards who can’t defend quicker PGs

Showtime
I’m talking about the old Fakers. They had Byron Scott and a bunch of 6’9" guys who would switch everything on defense. Sounds like Livingston’s a moot point, now.
But I’d rather see a true defensive point guard (like Bayless) match up against those quicker PGs. And I’d like to think Nate wants better perimeter defense than a Livingston/Roy backcourt would offer

mike miller is over rated (in my eyes), sure he has good numbers, on mediocre teams
I am not the MM expert here I can just tell you that I don’t get a feeling like he’s a WINNER. He might very well be, but I’ve never even thought, oh here is a guy who can help me get a Gold Trophy. I think Marty will become the most dominate 3 point shooter in the league, THIS YEAR.
Livingston will be an asset, your right, to us or to use as trade bait, but I just don’t see us not giving him a chance to prove he is still a rising star.
And second, we need the cap space, there is NO way we trade Raef and his hulk of an expiring contract, NO WAY.

We will either trade or cut Raef.
Doesn’t make sense for us to keep him on the roster. And why wouldn’t you wanna get something for him? Especially someone who so nearly was on a US Gold Winning Team?
Martell most dominant this year?! Very unlikely, he is streaky, very streaky, and it’s almost guaranteed that Miller will have a better overall shooting %. Martell will be a top tier 3 point shooter, but he is not better than Mike Miller in the intangibles.

Mike Miller plays in the WC therfor he isn’t playing “mediocre” teams unless you count his shots during practice, which is not the case as we all know.

He may not be our perfect fit but I think what we see within your post is the fear of unknown.

even if livingston isn't going to be fully recovered for a couple of years he's going to need a few minutes a game.
I think that means that KP has some other move(s) planned, or he doesn’t really have a lot of confidence in Livingston’s recovery. If he doesn’t have confidence in the recovery, KP is probably looking at this as more of a high reward/low risk situation. If Livingston can’t play, no big deal, let him walk at the end of the year. If he can play, great we have another decent/good PG in our PG jam. If Livingston can play, that means a trade or possibly two; Livingston wouldn’t fit particularly well along side Sergio, Bayless, Blake and Roy. I personally think that this is case of KP playing the high reward/low risk game, where he doesn’t really think Livingston can play, but hopes to be surprised.

Mhm, the first part of that Hoopsworld article starting the post just became an official reality
Charlotte extended an offer sheet to RFA Carl Landry.
Gives more substance to the second part.

On second thought, I hate Poopsworld for their unreliable reporting :-(
Now they say “hey, nothing happened” and just change the headline and half of the article.

Lateral move
Not good. If Livingston won’t get signed he probably wanted a guaranteed contract and some minutes this year, and the Blazers couldn’t guarantee this. If he goes to the Wolves, they will play him, and that might be too early.
Oh, and for people who think Shavlik is a safe bet: The guy also had a really bad injury.
“Randolph broke his ankle on November 30, 2006, in an accident during practice that teammates described as gruesome, comparing it to former NFL quarterback Joe Theisman’s career ending injury.”

Sounds like
Shuan had a good 15 minutes in a workout, then it started to show that his knee was really dragging him down, and that sent this whole thing into the crapper.
But that is not confirmed.

Well, at least he must have looked good enough that they gave it some thought and research and not abandoned it after one day
I guess KP gets a lot of offers from player’s agents and other team’s, and 90% never make it that far in the process. It’s too bad for Shaun cause he really was an outstanding talent and is a great guy who really cares about what he can do with his status for the community. I hope he still makes it back into the league even in a small role like 100 times more than I wish it to Miles (and I wouldn’t be mad to see him come back either). And I also hope the Wolves or wherever he lands don’t push him too hard/early.

Hoopsworld tries to explain (or cover their butt, however you want to word it)
posted by Steve Kyler, 25 September 2008 6:02:16 AM
HoopsHype and Draft Express did not have this before we did… they ran it after we ran it… and being wrong does not make you a liar… your simply wrong. We were told by several people that the Blazers had reached a deal with Shaun – SEVERAL… the problem is things like this end up being that word leaks that the team is signing someone, and everyone inside the team does the same thing fans do – jumps to conclusions, all we can do is pick up the phone and ask the question of credible people, if they are wrong, that’s not something we can predict, especially when those same people are spot on on everything else.
