Its probably not availabe where ever he is at...
The problem with league pass is that if you live anywhere near portland, the games will be blacked out. You can call up and complain to direct tv, and do the same to comcast, although it probably won’t do much good….

League pass will cost more than $100 ...
and the games will be blacked out anyway. It looks like your only option is to switch to comcast, which is exactly what those SOB’s want you to do. This situation makes me angry…

I am sorry
but comcast is not the villain! How about direct tv and the complete monopoly on the NFL??? Comcast cant do a damn thing about that and it is a whole league, not just one team! It is the nature of the business, not foul play by comcast alone…

I am sorry
but if you live in Canby there is no FREAKIN’ way to get the Blazer games since comcast is not available and the games are blacked out. There is absolutely NO legitimate reason Comcast shouldn’t have a deal with our local cable provider since they are not direct competitors. Comcast IS CERTAINLY the villain in my case.

I live in Woodburn, same deal
although I spoke with the people at Wave. The deal is almost complete, they just can’t agree on showing it in Seattle (where there are Wave customers). Wave doesn’t want to have it in Seattle, Comcast wants to force them to have it in Seattle in order to have it in Oregon. They said they were confident theat it would be done by November (though they could just be trying to tell me what I want to hear). But what did sound hopeful is that, if you notice the new channel lineup, channel 37 is blank and FSN is channel 38. Apparently, 37 was reserved for CSN.

I do not think CSNW and Direct TV have reached an agreement in your area, or any other.
I know they haven’t here on the OR Coast.. NBA League Pass is blocked out by CSNW even here.
I would do the $100 for 50 PTB Games ($2/Game)

COMCAST IS A RIP!
We were on coma$t for a long time..till a verizon guy came and sold us on them! They still have the comcast stations ….but CHEAPER! AND …..THEY BOUGHT OUT OUR COMCAST CONTRACT! (Right here in beavertown!)
by jamey_winchester on Sep 20, 2008 4:11 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
comcast dosen't have contracts.
and anyone that has access to verizon fios i’m sure has access to comcast as well seeing how they use the same lines. it’s people that don’t have cable access in the area or are tied into satellite contracts and those outside of the area that have no CSN access.

the fact that the duck season has started...
without a deal and people are screwed makes me very pessimistic about this getting done. Comcast wasteholes.

Man it sucks for people who don't have Comcast. I'm glad I live right in the center of Portland and got my
comcast internet and television. I think you need to call comcast and tell them you want to get a package where you get northwest programing.

ok i give up ,ive tried to call direct tv ,but they say they wont know BS till the season starts so,for now i will have to resort to enternet, which brings me to my question ,how can watch games on the enternet
by blazerholic5 on Sep 20, 2008 8:15 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
you can, but you'll definitely need high speed internet. usually in the game day threads some one posts a link to watch the game online

league pass info
I see that a few have posted stuff regarding league pass, and I know a few things. I live overseas and was able to use my friend’s league pass online, for most of the season. He is based out of new york and, therefore, I was not subject to any Blazer game blackouts. I am pretty sure the way it goes is that you are blacked out in Portland if the game is a home game. But an away game is covered by that team’s hometown network and the blackout does not apply.
As far as quality of service, Leaguepass is pretty decent. I have a 1mbps internet connection and the stream was always pretty reliable. The only problems I had were with my own connection, which isn’t quite as good where I live in the middle east. With a strong connection in the US you will get a nice feed. And if you’re just watching it on the TV, then I’m sure its golden.
But only $100 to cancel directv?? Man… do it. That is completely worth it. You’d pay that much for league pass anyways. In fact, I think LP is well over 10 Hamiltons, and you’d only get half the blazer games. Cut your contract and get Comcast or Verizon. Stick it to em.

Unrelated, but
How many pre-season games will be on tv this time round? Between NBA 2k9 and pre-season action, I will contain my excitement before tip-off.

People are really getting 2 issues mixed up here, I think.
1. Blackouts: Blackouts take place when a game is televised locally in your area via a regional sports network or an over-the-air station. If a game is blacked out on NBA LEAGUE PASS in your local area, you should tune to your local station to see the game.
Games will also be blacked out when they are appearing on national television. This applies to games being televised on ABC, ESPN, TNT, and NBA TV. You may view these games simply by switching to the designated channel. (this applies to NBA League Pass customers, cribbed from NBA.com).
The league determines the blackout areas…..badly. There should be no reason that Canby, Southern Or, Bend or the Coast should be blacked out on NBA LP at this time. There is no local provider of the games ….so no blackout should apply. I looked around on the net and this problem appears all over the country (not just Blazerland). Fans live in areas where there is a blackout but no local option to watch. Perhaps contacting Indemand (the vendor for LP) may help, but I doubt it.
2. Comcast and it’s the lack of deals with other providers. This one is more complicated since it is not 1 deal but several deals. As we all know, Comcast customers are getting CSN NW. When the channel was created, Comcast stated that they would try to get carriage deals with other providers, such as Verizon Fios, Bend Broadband, Charter, Direct TV …ect. I know that a lot of people don’t believe this (many think that Comcast is trying prevent non-Comcast customers from getting CSN), but I don’t think that is the issue. Since the channel was launched, Comcast has reached deals with Verizon Fios and Ashland cable (The Fios deal seems to put to rest the idea that Comcast is trying to create a monopoly with the channel since Fios is in entirely inside of the Comcast footprint and in direct competetion with Comcast for customers). However no similar deals have been reached with DirectTV , Dish Network, Charter and so forth. This probably is a case of hardball between Comcast and the other providers. Comcast is asking for a pretty good chunk of change for the channel (probably to offset the $100 million they have promised the Blazers over the next 10 years and the cost of launching the channel itself) and we have seen that Bend BB is stating that it would result in a rise of $1.50 per month for every customer that gets the channel.
I don’t know who is right in these negotiations, only that the fans are caught in the middle. I can tell you that the only leverage we have is to talk to our TV providers and let them know that we demand this channel! I think that there will be a dominoe effect…as soon as one group cuts a deal (one of the sat providers) the rest will follow shortly there after. None wants to be the odd man out in this scenario

I concur
As a long time LP subscriber in an area where games WOULD be blacked out for selling out (LA) I get every single Laker game if I want unless its on national TV. Then its blacked out on league pass. And BTW I get ALL the blazers games. I watchd 70+ last season with the extra beign when I had to work late or family issues came up. All the games were shown. Even if youre in the blackout area, LP will work for you.

Bend Broadband has told me
Comcast demands $2 per subscriber. Sounds reasonable except that is ESPN money. And Comcast over 85% of all subscribers have to pay. That is the killer. There is no way folks here live with that bump. There are no negotiations with Bend Broadband.
This is on your Portland Trail Blazers. The money went to them. The lack of conditions on Comcast appears to be their failure to understand the cable/satellite business or else they simply did not care.

Here is the email that Bend BB sent TallTimbers
It is noted here
It actually says that Comcast requires 40% penetration (not 80%) and Bend says a $1.50 per month raise would be required. I don’t know what ESPN charges and your point may still be valid but this came right from Bend Broadband. just an FYI

My information was with the sales manager and was by telephone July 08
Thanks for the info. I did miss this. The preferred cost with sports tier on Bend Broadband is $53.95 so an additional $1.50 is a 2.8% increase. I would maintain that this is a no-brainer for BB. I have written them an email tonight to get it done!

The other villians
FSN NW – for being too cheap to offer the blazers a higher offer to renew the contract
The Blazers – for choosing a channel that would showcase all 82 games and make the team its crown jewel vs a channel who doesn’t give a rip about the Blazers and would only show games when it conveniently did not interfere with seattle programming.
I’m thankful for comcast and giving me access to all 82 games which has never been done before.

Solution
watch the games online using sopcast or some other online streaming option such as channel surfing.

Trust me - its not the same
My HD system and recorder allow me to watch and pause, re-watch and see detail my poor old eyes can only see on a big screen. I do watch that way many games but it is hard and kind of watching a movie on TV instead of seeing it in a theater.
