Now that's a trade that actually would have a decent chance to get accepted

The time to deal is now, if he's perceived as being the guy...

Quit wondering
The rest of us KNOW.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

I love Josh Howard.
But I wouldn’t make that trade.

What?
How is he “being stupid”? How would his comments have anything to do with his gameplay? If you were an intelligent NBA player – and don’t even tell me he’s not intelligent; he got into an excellent university, and his interviews with Henry Abbott are among the most articulate NBA interviews I’ve ever read – if you were an intelligent baller valued only for your athletic talents, heck, you’d probably feel disrespected by this country as well.

You're comparing apples and oranges
“Stupidity” and “intelligence” are not in the same category. Intelligence has to do with how much information you can retain and process. Stupidity has to do with failure to use your intelligence when you ought to be able to.
I said nothing about his intelligence.
If you don’t understand why making this kind of statement in a way that it will become public is likely to end up being harmful to him, then I guess there’s no point in trying to explain it. It really doesn’t matter whether or not you agree with the statement, it wasn’t a very good idea to make it on film.
His comments have little to do with his gameplay, but they do have to do with the fact that he’s a public figure. Some have talked about, despite his prior controversies, the possibility that KP might trade for him. I think we can safely say that isn’t going to happen anytime in the next few years, if ever.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

Only 10 million?
How else could he but feel disrespected, with his excellent diction and sensitive demeanor, being paid such a paltry sum and that for just his athletic talents? Since he’s endeavored so artfully in so many different areas he should be even more handsomely compensated for his intellectual skills. He interviewed with Henry Abbot? The nation should raise our taxes and send him a special dispensation!

The scary thing to me is that MARK CUBAN is teaching etiquette...
“That said, we will be going through some advanced communication-skill sessions together this training camp,” Cuban told the Dallas Morning News. “I have explained to him that cellphone cameras are not your friend and that what you think you said on camera is never what people will hear when it shows up on YouTube or TV.”

NO FINES
The most critical aspect of this is that it is absolutely his right to hate the nation, and as much as I disagree with him I strongly believe there is nothing the league or his team could or should do in response to his hateful, pathetic, thoughtless comment.
The rest of us equally have a right to express our opinion of Josh Howard and our opinion of his opinions. That’s what makes this nation great. My guess is that he’s in for a rough welcome during his introductions this year. As he should.

Agreed
But since he’s in an entertainment industry, when you annoy the fans, you shouldn’t be surprised if it impacts your value in future. When his contract is up, there will be more than one team that won’t be interested, and others that will offer less than they would have. No surprise if it has an effect on his future earnings. Some teams won’t care, but others will.

It's his right to be wrong, stupid, or an ingrate
Anyone who listens to entertainer’s opinions on things needs to take that into account. .
If you truly disagree with his opinion, just don’t show up for or watch a game where he’s playing, unless you’re born without a spine, of course. Money talks, people in pastures take walks.

Oh.. he was born without a spine. It was always just a matter of time. …

Oh, I agree entirely
It is his right.
But with the Blazers’ recent history, and their need to establish a different culture because so many fans walked, he won’t be coming here, however good a fit his talents might be. People suggested after some of his recent comments that he still might be a good trade target, and I wasn’t sure, but I suspect this one makes the tipping point.
It’s actually too bad (irrelevant of whether we come here). People with that attitude aren’t really very happy, most of the time.
Over here, a lot of people may criticize the U.S., but if they actually had a chance to live there, about 80% would jump at it. Having lived both places, I can understand why they have that attitude. Personally, I think both the U.S. and U.K. have an awful lot going for them compared to a lot of other places in the world, and I can think of a lot more profitable ways to expend energy and popularity than bashing either one of them.
The most amazing thing about my amazing ego is I have amazingly little about which to be egotistical.

I'm a bit dissappointed in Josh,
But perhaps age has softened my views. (or just softened my brain, not sure which)
I remember 1968 and John Carlos and Tommie Smith. At the time I thought it was an insult and a disgrace. To some extent, I still see it as an insult. But I also recognize the courage it took for those two men. I no longer see it as a disgrace.
I am a person who believes that the issue of race is often overblown and used as either a tool by some to achieve their own aims (can you say Jessie Jackson) or as an excuse. But at the basic level, all you have to do is ask yourself this question – Would you trade your ethnicity? For me the answer is probably not. As long as that is the answer, I recognize that there are still issues of race that need to be addressed. Unfortunately, in my opinion, we don’t focus on the right ones.
So, while I may be dissappointed in hearing Howard say that, I’m going to withhold judgement. I haven’t experienced life in the same way he has. I don’t know whether his beliefs are the result of his experiences or of him buying into the “angry black man” set of values based on exposure to a narrow set of ideas and opinions (much like Michelle Obama). I still believe that Josh Howard is a fine young man, regardless of his ability as a basketball player.

I don't care about someone's politics and bla bla bla
But fans go to see the teams they like, and the less they like a player, the less they want to pay for a ticket. That’s the truth, and we all know it here in Blazerland.
If Howard were “smart” or “intelligent” he’d realize that and start kissing babies and shaking hands a little more. Yeah, we all like a bad-ass tough guy who speaks his mind … to a point.
