Around SBN: Fighters React to Nick Diaz's Positive Drug Test

In keeping with Dave's new housekeeping guidelines, I believe the Court Rival postings go down here now. But if there are enough recs it'll get stickied I think. I guess I've never seen a fanpost with 5 recs...

Anyways, the linked league spreadsheet is waaay out of date if anyone wants to update. I could possibly do it if the username / password was mailed to me (fewmit on CR). But the main news is that it appears we are down to 5 teams. Red Unit is gone. B Edge Odenizers and Blazing The Edge exist but are not being updated by their players so I assume those are "dead" teams.

BE League Teams:
BEdgers - college A
BlazerEdgers - college B
Just Blaze - college D
Boom Goes The Odenite - college D
Honka Playboys - playground

It's getting almost time for some intraleague action, though! Should a date be set for accepting challenges? How about this Saturday? There is a twist here, in that this season teams can challenge twice!

link to Kaz's season 4 changes

Should we have actual playoffs this season (with 5 teams) or play each other twice? Let the debate begin! Just Blaze looks forward to defeating y'all any way we can!

I think

We should all play each other once, seed according to those results, (because with 5 teams someone will get a bye), then do the playoffs from there.

also,

does anyone have access to the old google spreadsheet? Or should a new one be made to keep track of records and teams?

Just Blaze wins the league championship!!!

I guess this just gets lost down in fanshotland…so I now declare Just Blaze the winners of the BE league season 4 by default. No need to play us, we’ve already won!!

Odenite on board!!

I think that we should execute as the initial plan was from last season… play each other once, then commence with a playoff at game 35 or something. It would be important to empty out cues and as we have about 9 cued up at the moment… .this could take some doing.

JB….. you’re going down guys….. check out the rear view mirror…. only 15 tc’s off!

looks like Honka is not a full team? Honka…. I think that Blazing the Edge and Odenizers may still have some players on there with interest???

It looks like this thing is losing steam fast. 4 teams is a huge drop from the 8 last season.

Bedgers took a team vote....

And we decided not to participate this season. We have one goal in mind: making the CR playoffs. We decided playing playground and college D teams isn’t the best way to accomplish that since our ranking is likely going to be near the bubble as it is while playing pro D’s and college A’s. Sorry guys, hopefully we can all make the CR playoffs and match up there!!!

Hey now

If any BE team gets up to our level, we’ll be more than happy to play them. But where we stand right now, we’d earn more rating points by losing to a pro A team than we would by beating a playground or college D team.

WEAK

we already figured out the rating system too….. but there are FOUR teams…. how hard is it to make room for them? and we are all college level… JB just bumped up to C and We are 15 tc points away from C, so get off the high horse. Pretty weak…… If you guys are sooooo confident, then you should win and a win against a C team still gives you more points than a loss against a team in the same division.

Bedgers just don't want to lose

that shine they got from last season. Quitting while you are ahead is smart I guess, since now everyone else has had a chance to catch up in training points. Kinda reminds me of my big brother who used to love playing 1 on 1 against me in basketball, until I hit 13 and had a growth spurt that made me as tall as him. Just Blaze wins 100-91

Baron Von Wafer game MVP: 12 points, 24 rebounds, 5 assists!

Rex Chapman had a game high 22 points for BlazersEdgers.

Back and forth game for the most part, each team made some really strong runs.

So for what it’s worth in a three team league, first BE win! Woo!

Tomorrow: Just Blaze vs Boom Goes the Odenite.

But the computerized game analysis

wasn’t what we expected. It didn’t seem to have much to do with the game I saw. What about the JB defense holding the Edgers to 39% shooting? (And we weren’t any better until the 4th quarter.) Yes, Rex burned us with those five threes, but he was on their bench, so why laud their starters’ long range shooting?

JB gets Odenized

But that’s OK. Well, almost OK. On paper we were better, but on court …. and I don’t really know how to explain it. If it was real people “off night” would do, but the random factor of the sim must have been set on High :-)

Anyway, Boom, are you willing to share secrets? It will only help people trying to beat us, not help us beat you next time … is the Chem your starters have Power Offense? And how did you have your sliders set against us? What did you see when you looked at our stats? I’m trying to learn how the opposition thinks.

FWIW, I think BE teams should be trying to help one another.

It was fun watching the game with you and with Blazers Edgers. I seldom watch the other games.

well......

there was a freaky amount of time scouting you guys for this game and I’m glad it paid off. I did most of it… but there was a good collaboration as a unit for us. I saw your line ups and tried to match up accordingly.

Starters for you were your weaker players ( just lower in TC points ) and strengths were defense. Your bench was your stronger players with offense oriented. Although I couldn’t see what you had as far as chem’s, I only assumed that you had a lock down d giong on for your starters and some kind of power offense for your bench.

Sooooo…… I wanted to put my stronger players to play your bench, and it just so happened that most of our stronger players were defense oriented. I took it one step further and went with a 3 guard liine up for starters to overload your defensive unit, with our 3 highest scorers… I figured something had to give.

and on the last day…. we balanced all of our shooting sliders so that each unit was as close to a median pass / shoot as we could get. I’m thinking this may have been a huge part as we hadn’t really done this to date. All of our stats ended up doing what all of our guys wanted to do ( our pg’s dished, our big guys boarded, etc. ).

We only have 8 of the 10 possible individ chem’s ( we just took on a new guy to replace another one ) and we only had Triangle offense ( at the very last minute I may add ) on the bench. I know I trained my guys heavy on defense and leadership the last 24 hours before playing you guys.

REALLY wanted to beat you guys as I couldn’t live with myself getting beat two seasons in a row.

Who’s next? :)

Well played

It sure seems that we were out stratigized – with our advantage in chemistries and attributes for both teams being equalish it does seem like we should have won it. Instead we got spanked. Hard.

For us, we matched up what we thought was the best bench / starter matchup and set the team chemistries to best counter your units. That was the extent. The slider thing seems worth exploring more. We just have our guys set them to their individual strengths – we’ve never tries anything like that before.

Funny, we also were concentrating on leadership training the few days before this game.

You’re on the cue for our rematch. there WILL be payback! :)

by moko on Sep 22, 2008 1:20 PM PDT up reply actions

Thanks

One more question – approximately what is your team leadership total? As moko said, we’d been training it, but I’m curious if the total is very different. (Honestly don’t know where ours is as the moment.)

We’d just flip flopped our bench and starters a few games before – it would be interesting to run that game again with our original starters. (Which are now starting once again, but not because of your comment – I just suggested it as perhaps a better matchup against tonight’s opponent – a Div. C challenged I think while we were still in D :-) Again we’re better on paper …

You know ....

Just reading your comments again, I think that you looked at our starters/bench before the flip. The team you played last night had the defense on the bench and the offense (& lower tcs) starting. Which, if this is true, sent the strategy out the window…

We have all five individual chems with one level 2.

100+

2 * 60+ ( which are the 2nd players to the first 2 at 100 )

4* 40+

2* 30 +

Pretty much me and another guy who sees the importance of leadership. Between him and I we make up 320 to about 250 for the rest of the team.

There are some guys who really want the points which I don’t get. The 3 lowest scoring guys on the roster are also the 3 highest in tc points… .it’s tough to get everyone on board, but we seem to have a pretty good group.

Trying to pound to get to College A so we can be ‘good enough’ to play BEdgers…. only 100 points away!

by Kersey Lives on Sep 23, 2008 11:15 AM PDT up reply actions

That's about where we are

in leadership too, only we have only one player over 100. The sim analysis last night said both units showed more leadership than the opposition so I assume we had more leadership points.

There are some guys who really want the points which I don’t get. The 3 lowest scoring guys on the roster are also the 3 highest in tc points” . By tc points do you mean total points or endurance points? I’m the lowest scorer on our team and have the lowest endurance points but 2nd highest total points. I work towards high total points because that determines the division. We were less than 60 from lowest A team last time anyone mentioned it.

I am having a hard time

Convincing my team about the importance of Leadership and Defense. Personally I believe each player should train defense, leadership, passing, speed and FT’s up to a respectable level when compared to the rest of your players stats. As this is my second season I feel 100 leadership and defense is very very important, and I want at least 70 on the other 3. However I can’t prove this by anything Doocar has said on the forums, only from what I have seen and read from other users on the forums who have been playing awhile. It seems that players who have a high base of stats in leadership, defense, speed, FT’s, and passing do better over all than players who ignore those stats because they don’t see their importance.

That four of the top ten College B blockers (quality stats) are from BE teams. Is that domination or is it not?!
Of course we do account for three of the 16 teams :-)

Moving up to A

Three BE teams are in the hunt for a move up to Div. A. One A team lost a player overnight so unless they get a strong replacement they’ll drop out. At the moment Blazers Edgers are tops (of BE teams) in points, but JB is only 11 behind them and BGO about 50 behind JB. I didn’t check other B teams so we may be the bottom 3 for all I know :-)

I looked in on your game last night

thinking it would be more interesting than ours, but nobody was there to chat with. Ours ended up a real nail biter, we were tied in the last minute then yours truly turned the ball over and after the other team scored I took my ONLY shot attempt of the night – and of course missed it. We had a hot 3 pt shooter (8 for 11) but did I pass to him? Oh no. I think Coach is looking for a new forward.
