(semi-OT) '08-'09 Season as Epic Poetry (+poll)
Well, the season is getting closer. A month and a half, and we're there. In my role as one of two 2008-2009 Poet Laureates, summer has given me little poetic material in comparison to during the season. But that will all change when the Portland Trailblazers take to the court for the 2008-2009 season.
I plan to undertake a difficult task. Well, difficult for me, as I am no where near as skilled in poetry as my counterpart St. Bayno. Beginning with the first game of the season, begins a new epic that will far outweigh the first one. Each game is a part of the story, and after 82+ segments (I'm hoping for at least 98!) we will have one giant epic poem about our favorite team and their season.
Last time, I used a medieval knighthood setting, and it worked well enough to win me a share of my title. However, there is more than one genre in which the epic can be set.
This is where you come in. Which genre would you like to see the 2008-2009 Portland Trailblazers season be told in? Please vote below, or suggest your own. What would you like to see in the genre you voted for? What players would fit best as which kind of characters? I may not choose the one with the most votes, but the one that piques my interest the most.
People always say to think outside the box. Unfortunately that almost always results in piles of unorganized garbage. The only times when it doesn't is the rare occasion when someone makes a new box. True creativity happens when you make people say, "I didn't know the box could do that."
Lets make the box special. Thanks!

Oh or vampires or zombies
I love vampires and zombies and I often wonder why they do not join forces.

Does a take off on the movie/book The Running Man qualify as epic?
What about an end of the world disaster style epic?
What about a crime drama? Or is that too much like the Jail Blazer days?
Devil's Advocate or just argumentative?

I have three votes.
1) Palindrome saga.
2) Film Noir.
3) Scrabblegram (compose a written work using every Scrabble tile exactly once, but no more –
basically, an anagram of the letter set of a Scrabble game. I wrote a love letter like this once).
Did I listen to pop music because I was miserable? Or was I miserable because I listened to pop music?

Now Film Noir would be interesting.
Of course, my conception of Noir films may have no connection to real Noir films, since I haven’t watched any to speak of. I get the black and white picture in my head of approaching a door that says, “Brandon Roy – Private Investigator” Set in a city in the 1920’s, Roy, and his associate Greg Oden are searching all across America (and Canada) for a client’s championship trophy, with help from the usual cast of characters. Although at this point, it kinda tuns into Casablanca, not that the direction is bad by any means, but is probably not exactly what you were thinking of.
Hmm….

Something with lots of rhyming words and pirates.
And squeeze in as many Steve Smith references as possible. I liked Stevie.

How about particles, triangles and universes battling for supremacy
Oh, damn…already been done.
Then how about about a monster movie where the monster is rampaging the league….I mean the metropolis…yeah… as revenge for past wrongdoings.
And you don't eat crackers in the bed of your future, otherwise you might get....all scratchy.

Do it in the style of Dr Suess. You can use the word scatological and other made up words.
If not that ….then I agree with Tom….Grease

Pirates!
Vote for the Romantic Movement, particurally because of Espronceda´s “Pirate’s song” (The link has both the Spanish original version and its translation)

My only God is liberty;
My law is might, the wind my mark,
My country is the sea.”

dont you think western fits the “TRAIL BLAZERS” best? after all we do already have an outlaw!

Pirates seem to be a pretty popular choice.
But so does the Outerspace Adventure. Who do you think would fit into what roles?
I think Greg Oden would make an interesting Time Lord.

what about homeward bound?
Some lovable, innocent little scamps have to travel across the country battling, hawks, grizzlies, wolves, the sun, heat, lakers and little irish men in order to be reunited with their loving family? Also they would have to battle awful jazz music like smooth jazz and rockets, and be terrified of the OMG… THUNDER!!!!

Outerspace Adventure!
Though I can make a good case for detective/noir/spies, as well as Seuss, westerns, and lovable little scamps, I vote Outerspace Adventure, My reasoning:
1) The connection to the Blazers via Paul Allen, Mr. Science Fiction hisself.
2) The creative possibilities — NBA players as aliens!, Different worlds! Different cultures! Timewarps! Going where no team has ever gone before! Etc., etc.
3) Pirates get old fast.

Zombies, anyone?
I’m not sure how this ties in, I just love zombies. Plus, I have a great screenplay in the works called ZvR (Zombies versus Robots).
Anyone else seen the movie Zombi? In which a zombie fights a shark.
