Kevin Duckworth was a great Dad!!!!
I am from California, and relocated 2 1/2 years ago to be with a wonderful man I met 21 years ago, Kevin Duckworth. We lived in a great house in Tigard, and there are so many stories out there. But no one else can tell you what a great Dad, Kevin was. Here is a peek into our lives......... (I have altered their names to protect our privacy.... Kevin would have wanted it that way)
In his professional life to the people of Portland and to all who’s lives he touched he was known by many terms of endearment. But in the privacy of our lives, he was known only as Daddy, aka "Papa Bear".
Kevin was a great Dad and there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for our kids (my kids from a previous marriage.....I am a widow).
It was a Thursday afternoon around, 4:00 and my cell phone rang. I looked down with a smile, and answered the call only to be met with a distinictively deep voice, "Yo…. I’m taking Ari to her THING and she doesn’t have her hair done". I answered, that’s OK, one of the mothers from the ballet studio will put it in a bun for her. I’ll handle it.
I arrived at the ballet studio promptly at 6:00, from among the other dancers emerged Ari, her hair in a bun as promised, but her bun was crooked, with whispys flying out and I think I removed about 20 hair pins. Ari and I laughed all the way home as she told me about her "man bun" experience with Dad. But,I walked in the house gave him a kiss and said, you did a great job on the hair Daddy.
Ari was his heart, but Bo was his pride.
Kevin once told me, it is his job to raise Bo to be a Man, it is my job to teach him how to love a Woman. And so Bo’s journey into manhood started that day, with his first trip into the Men’s bathroom. Bo would sit with Daddy in his favorite chair and watch basketball, and he wanted to learn to play so badly. We would go to the gym and he would practice dribbling, running and shooting until he was exhausted. "Mom, I played so hard so Daddy can teach me how to play basketball". I asked Bo who are your favorite players on the Blazers, he would name them off in order, always starting with Daddy 00, Martell #8, Brandon Roy #7 until he had gone down the entire starting line up.
There are only a handful of people who come into your world, and touch your life with sincerity and truth. And with Kevin, his friendship was sincere and he would always let you know where you stood. For me, Kevin was sincerely my soulmate and my "One True Love".

Wow...
He sounds like such a special guy. From all the stories i’ve heard, like how he would greet people with huge, and his smile, he sounds like an amazing person.
We love him here in Portland, and he will always live on. Always…
