Rudy Fernandez a PG?
how crazy is it?.........really?.................
A lot of the talk here around the blazers edge is about how and where rudy fernadez will find his minutes...
I say, why not point guard?
people who have only seen his youtube clips might not give any value to this...seeing as most of those clips are alley oops or come in transition. And of course comes the argument, will he be able to D up on opposing point guards....
But lets step back for a second...invision a Roy/Rudy backcourt. This will be easier for those of you who have actually watched some of his full games....
besides shooting, probably the biggest thing he brings to the table is his court vision...he sees things before they happens..he's a playmaker...he can make the deep outlet pass or throw the alley oops..he can feed the post, and lead the break...and he's quick...how quick? his lateral quickness times marked better than any one in this years draft class, even derrick rose...not that that means anything or translates to defense.
I'm willing to bet though that he is as quick as steve nash and he has greater length...and not that Nash's defense is anything to be proud of, but his team does occasionally find ways to win games....why, because offensively he makes his team better...more so than most other point guards can duplicate...i think this could be the case with Rudy, especially if the opposing point is forced to guard him.
Look, the CP3s, Deron Williams, and those alike are gonna be able to do what they want. Their gonna get to where they want to get to..the key to beating them is not one on one defense..it's team defense..and Rudy is an extremely smart player..his Bball IQ is rediculously high...all he has to do is push his man towards help side..Oden and Aldridge will defend the back line just fine...even Joel and Channing coming off the bench, theyll do the same. It seems to me the whole point guard game this past year has just become overrated. Though no doubt its important..But the fact is, this is still a big man's game. And we got a couple very big things going for us...
As tominhawaii in another thread pointed out....
Rudy + Roy = A lot of Offense
Bayless + Roy = Defense (I didn’t say a lot)
Rudy and Roy will do great things.......

this only makes the summer drag on
its like looking at the clock constantly.
You’re new PTB line-up
PG- Rudy F
SG- Joel Pryzbilla
C- Brandon Roy
SF- Lamarcus Aldridge
PF- Steve Blake
no way any team could match up to that
"Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over." - HAL
my fourth quarter line up
Brandon-1
Rudy-2
Travis-3
Aldridge-4
Oden-5
I trust Brandon, Rudy and Travis all to hit the big shot, and i gotta believe that with Oden and Aldridge both in the game, one of them will be able to exploit their mathchup…
our blazers are dangerous…...........
its like the tucker
2 far ahead of its time. now im not agreeing with you, but will not disagree, if youve seen rudy bring the ball upcourt then ill believe you, but if not this is(and really is anyway) one of thos wait and see things. this really is more then anything a chance for you to go on record, save link to favorites, new folder, rudy 4 point, in rediculus predictions. it could happen if he can dribble. more of a 4th quarter thing though ide bet.
"If I was in anyway unclear, I am implying that Dave is a serial murderer."

Beautiful end of game line-up.
Just beautiful. Makes me drool, pant, sweat and hyperventilate. Who is the opposition going to sag off of to help on Roy when he begins his moves?
I remember telling him how impressed I was with a player during summer league. In Avery's unique voice, he replied, "Marc, it's summer league." I
they'll just plain sag
and then they’ll wilt. and then they’ll wither up and fall over. and then they’ll go home ashamed and embarassed.
Winning is everything.
That's assuming that's there's going to be close 4th quarters
I hope there’s not one this entire season

You asked...
how crazy is it?.........
Very.
really?.................
Yes.
t
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
never know
while it does sound crazy to play a guy like rudy at the point guard position for any extended period of time, I wouldnt completely rule it out.
Offensively, there would be no issue with him and roy playing together, it would just come down to matchups defensively. If we are playing against a team with a point guard who isnt a threat offensively, say a lindsay hunter type guy, I dont see any reason we couldnt play roy and rudy in the same line for stretches of the game.
But I think picturing either of them as a future starting pg is crazy talk.
The dude is 6'5" and a scoring guard that MIGHT be able to play the 3...
............................................. his new nickname will be LUNCH if he plays PG though—at least that’s what all the opposing PGs will call him…
"He shoots....................... he scores!!!"
It's his ability to defend NBA point guards that is in question.
And it’s defending (not PLAYING) the point that I absolutely want Brandon Roy to have no part of.
So Brandon Roy’s Co-Guard (or just BRCG) may not have to be a point guard per se himself,
but he sure as spit gotta be able to defend point guards at the highest level.
As of now, Rudy can not do that, but I do allow that he might acquire that ability, with NBA coaching and training.
So, we’ll see how Rudy’s point guard defense develops as his NBA story unfolds.
And the same goes for Bayless, too; since the two of them will play together as the bench backcourt,
they’ll both get ample opportunities to defend second-tier NBA point guards.
As they are both rookies, we can expect sold development and NBA adjustment out of them both.
Whoever rises to that challenge best in the first half of the season or so has the inside track
on challenging Blake for the starting job as the BRCG.
Not actually GETTING the job, mind you; just being above the other guy on the depth chart behind Blake.
Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.
from what ive seen....
he played pretty solid d on that dude from russia in the pre olympic tune up…...you guys are probly gonna argue that guy, Holden, isnt an nba caliber player…..i thought he was money. quick and athletic, pretty strong, and rudy played him tough…though did get called for some blocking fouls….no matter though, i like the tough d…..he plays smart on that end of the floor, just like he does on offense….he uses his teammates to his advantage, and is able to push guys toward help side…..
our 4th quarter line up will be devastating
