A LITTLE love on ESPN
As I was reading this Marc Stein Article talking about the most anticipated games of the season, I was ecstatic to see that Marc is as excited as we are about the Blazers this year. We are mentioned numerous times and he seems to love the fact that Oden gets to match up against quite a few great centers. However all that was tempered by the fact that at every chance he gets, he mentions Odens health.. roller coaster of emotions. Yes we got mentioned.. ARRG stop bringing up the knee!
I'm a little sensitive on that topic.
However this brings up the fact that not only are going to be on national TV often (good times for those of us not in Portland) but we are a marquee attraction. Sounds like a good start to a season for me.

I'm not sure he's not sympathizing with us a little
When he talks about Oden surviving, he also refers to the fact that he’s got a very tough schedule. Yeah, the knee is a part of it, but it’s other things too. Try concentrating on the other things and maybe you’ll become a real bird someday.

In Stein's defense
Two of the injury comments were for Oden v. Yao battles, and since Greg missed all of last year and Yao always misses at least a few games, the ‘if healthy’ comments re: the center matchup were entirely understandable.

He's just bitter.
He was looking forward to seeing Oden last year, and feels deprived.
That’s what I get out of those “Health permitting” digs.
Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

I commented on this earlier in Dave's schedule post
and also on TrueHoop. I think Stein just likes to push our buttons… but I also think he really doesn’t like the Blazers, their fans, or their city. The thought of folks with that attitude being forced to acknowledge Blazer greatness is one of the reasons I so look forward to future Blazer championships.

you're kidding, right?
sometimes I can’t tell with these comments.
Stein has been not only the best and most consistent ESPN basketball columnist, but he was the first to get on the “Blazers have the most potential” bandwagon after the ‘06 draft—before even the Oden pick. The idea that a national columnist has some kind of anti-Blazer fan agenda is just plain silly. An anti-Laker or anti-Knick agenda would be one thing since they are high-profile teams. But let’s be honest, nobody will really care about us until we’re in the championship conversation.

I really think its the opposite
I would count Stein as one of the players in our court. If I am not mistaken he is in Hawaii so he has less of an eastcoast bias. I always thought he was a fan of what we had done here.

Chad Ford is the one in Hawaii
but I have never had an issue with Stein or Ford. I think he’s just trying to be funny.

I'm not gonna read every Stein column for the past ten years
but I used to get upset enough to write him, until that proved counterproductive. To be fair, they were the JailBlazers back then, but the thing that bugged me the most was a dismissive tone on his part.
Regardless of whatever he did or didn’t write in the past, those comments came off to me at least as whipping on GO, and NOBODY whips on GO around me and gets away with it!
