Prediction time!

Ok, schedule's out--prediction time! I went ahead and did the big version...if you want to do like me, you can copy and paste from my schedule or from the Blazers.com schedule, and then if you want go one by one with comments like I did, you can use Google Docs to share it with everyone. Or do it however you want. (IE, just a record, and no más).

At any rate, here's my predictions...

164 and -82

We win by such a large margin that they take a loss out of the loss column as well. But the equation needs to balance out, so hence the win total.

It totally works mathematically!

It's all relative

.40 and above is easily possible, and probably surpassed fairly often, by some hardcore alcoholics with a high level of tolerance.

.40 for someone who had no alcohol tolerance, and had never drank before, would almost certainly be fatal.

I think your just about dead on with your total W/L predicition . . .

I do however think that you’re underrating the T-Wolves. I think they’re the akin to what the Blazer’s were last year, a very surprising young team that wins more games than anybody anticipated.

by noaher on Aug 6, 2008 1:40 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

Sarcasm font omitted?

The T-wolves? Really? The ones who play in Minnesota? They are young, all right, I’ll give you that. They may win more games than anyone anticipated, but only because everyone is anticipating about 20.

I am looking forward to watching either Al Jefferson or K Love try to guard Oden. Is it possible to actually get a basketball embedded in your head after being dunked on? We’re going to find out.

Bayless isn't the second coming of Jordan.
Jordan was the first coming of Bayless.

Thank you for emphasizing my point.

We’ll revisit this in April and I’m willing to admit I was wrong. I think it’s silly to assume we’ll beat the T-Wolves all four times that we play them. You remember Mike Miller right? The guy who lights us up every time he plays us? He’s no small addition to a team. A healthy Randy Foye. Are you ready for some devilish blasphemy? . . . Kevin Love will win rookie of the year. Of course, as a Blazer fan I’m rooting for any one of our 3 rookies to win, but this is what I think will happen, not what I want to happen. So yes, lets revisit this in April and you can laugh in my face and I can laugh along with you, but I have a hunch that Minny is going to be competetive this year and will win +30 games. And I predict that we will not beat them four out of four times. I don’t mean to ramble on about the T-Wolves, really I could care less about their team, but I’ve been telling my dad and brother that they’ll be the surprise this year from the moment they made the trade for Mike Miller and Kevin Love and I just need it documented somewhere so I can rub people’s faces in it if it happens. If not, well it’s just buried in some long forgotten fan post.

by noaher on Aug 6, 2008 2:08 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm the expert of doing that.

Making predictions and then burying them later.

With that said, I did come out and make a fanpost in late november/early december and predict 41 and 41…luck? probably. I’m just hoping the majic will continue. And I agree. We probably won’t beat the Wolves all four times. But we might. I’d put the odds like this

They beat us all 4 times – 5%
They beat us 3 times – 5
We split 2 and 2 – 22%
We take them 3 and 1 – 42%
We beat them 4 times – 26%

So I went for the high route. But then again, some other teams (like Phoenix) I think I took the low route, saying they’ll beat us three times. I think Atlanta I had beating us twice. They’ll be lucky to beat us once.

So just the eb and flow I was feeling. But every simulation has anomolies. One anomaly (however you spell that) in this is the Wolves losing 4 times.

Yeah

Them stealing a game from us? Entirely plausible.

As far as the Twolves not sucking? Not so much. Their team is a horrible mismash of talent that doesn’t work well in unison. That’s what matters in basketball.

Pessimistic but still..
Foye: He played mostly 2 guard in college, now their making him into a point guard? He’s a little short for shooting guard, but he’s too slow and too much of a scorer to be an effective point guard imo.
McCants: Locker room cancer. Short shooting guard. Kind of a chucker, passable shooting percentages though. Best used as a sparkplug on the bench, he won’t accept that role though.
Telfair: The purest point they have, with his defense and lack of size he’s really not going to do well paired up with their other short guards.
Brewer: Severely underweight small forward, horrible on offense thus far in his career. He’s looking like a bust right now, and with how small he is, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him become injury prone.
Love: Short power forward with limited athletic ability. He’s still slow, and relies a lot on pump fakes and crap like that. Rookie of the year? I’d be really surprised. Bust of 2008? Less surprised. He brings some nice things to the table, the passing, things like that, but it’s hard to say for sure his college game will translate to the much faster and athletically challenging game of the NBA. A mobile undersized power forward is one thing, but a plodding undersized power forward is quickly becoming a vanishing concept.
Jefferson: He’s got good post moves. He is a poor defender. He’s also pretty short. Definitely can’t be a center. Not gifted athletically, but not horrible either. One thing though, he’s not a #1 guy. He’s a nice complimentary player, but if you are relying on him to win you games and get you in the playoffs, not gonna happen. In Minny he’s become the focus of their offense to the point where it is deleterious to the success of the team.

So basically they have 1 real point guard on the roster, but they can’t use him as a starter because they only have 2 short shooting guards. Their pf/c combo is short, slow, and unathletic and they don’t have a single tier one talent on the team. They basically somehow managed to create a roster than every team in the NBA matches up with well.

They are the poor mans version of the Blazers sans Roy and Oden. Jefferson and LMA are roughly similar, scoring-wise, but their supporting cast is far worse. 25 wins and a chance to get Rubio is their ceiling this year.

PS, Pairing Love and Jefferson looks like like ritualistic suicide. Amare would preform an ego-ectonomy on that mushy frontline the likes of which has never been seen.

Mayo was the best player in that trade, but the wolves did rid of all those terrible contracts. That was the big plus in that trade imo. I’m not sold on Love being a viable NBA player just yet.

Oh, and how good is We Were Born the Mutants Again with Leafling?

The album is extremely good, but that song makes it essential. I can’t get over the bass line and, though it’s simple, the guitar part on the verses is sweet. It’s weird how an album with such bleak lyrics and subject matter can be so uplifting. I guess quite a few of my favorite albums are like that though.

At least more realistic than my 164 and -82 prediction above.

I think if Portland wins 45 games this year that it will be a success. Forty-five, despite what everyone is saying, will just squeak into the playoffs, as the East is a little stronger this year than last.

Oden + Rudy + Bayless =10-15 wins

by BLAZERS#52 on Aug 6, 2008 2:35 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

While this is true, I realy have to say this

Oden—> As a rookie, he will not be a MASSIVE upgrade over Pryz. He will be an upgrade, but he won’t be Dwight Howard.

Rudy—> What is he going to bring that Martell or Travis wasn’t bringing? Again, we can only have five players on the floor.

Bayless -> He’s Jarrett Jack 2.0 - no real upgrade. Yes, yes. Next year, and the year after, and the year after, he will be. But Bayless’ rookie season = Jack’s season last year.

Yes, these guys will help us out. Just not 15 games. The team geling is worth a few and the new players are worth a few. I think 47-53 is about what to expect.

by prezofdeath on Aug 6, 2008 2:39 PM PDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not sure

Oden: Is more than a mere upgrade over Pryz. His scoring alone should double what Pryz had last year. Mostly, that’ll be off putbacks and dunks with very few plays designed for him. He’ll actually catch the ball off a pass from a driving Roy/Bayless/Rudy/Blake. That alone would put our point differential well in the positive. It’s like free points. Plus, Oden comboed with Pryz (meaning the rotation not that they’re playing together) means Pryz may be more effective in his minutes. So Oden is better than last years Pryz, and Pryz is better than last years Pryz

Rudy: I can’t even remember who was supposedly backing up Roy last year. Jack was, I guess. We had an off guard in a point’s body playing back up for our SG last year. We should be comparing Rudy to Travis or Martell, but to Jack. I don’t know what the comparison will end up looking like, but I’ll take the added inches and curly hair along with the solid outside shooting to actually spread the floor. Plus, that’ll give Roy a little breathing time, and he hopefully won’t get so exhausted toward the end of the season and we’ll win all games from Dec. on.

Bayless: He’s way quicker than Jack. He’s got more ambition. He’s a perfectionist, which isn’t what anyone was calling Jack last year. Who knows how this comparison will end up. He’ll almost assuredly be better at creating a J. I really think he’ll be significantly more effective in driving and converting than Jack, and I think that will be this year. We’ll see. It’s kind of hard to argue against what you said, but I think Bayless’ attitude’s foreshadowing something for this year. Even if he does have Jack’s season for his rookie season, he’ll not likely step on the line and turn it over. That alone will be significant.

That said, I wouldn’t be too surprised by a 45 win season. A lot of teams got better or trended toward the average, which means fewer teams will win with as much regularity and that 45 wins this year may = 50 wins last year.

rudy is a playmaker.....

ive watched a few of his games, and the one thing im impressed with is his passing….. he sees the court so to speak….something martell and travis still need to develope….basically, from what ive seen, its clear his bball iq is rediculously high….

he’s gonna throw the lob to oden, and help with the fast break….. and he spreads the defense, potentially better than martell…..plus, he is constant energy in motion…...defenses better watch out for the backdoor…..

Also, I like the idea of him and roy in the backcourt…...dont put it past rudy to play the point role on occasion…like i said, he is a playmaker…...Im just curious to see if he can handle a point guard on defense….something tells me he can because he plays smart…...all he has to do is force them to helpside. where oden the destroyer, killer of spirits, and blocker of shots can decimate all who enter his vacinity…...

ive never been so excited for a season…...

my prediction…..52-30…... and we make it past the first round…..

a couple of thoughts:

prez you have us losing all of our games vs. washington and new orleans (5 total). last year (if i remember right) we did pretty good vs. new orleans, splitting the season with them. Also arenas usually does stupid things vs. us, like proclaiming hes going to get 50 and then only getting 8. Also we’re the only franchise he hasn’t dropped at least 30 on in his career (or so said the commentators last time arena played us). I say we win at least one against each, for a total of 50-32.

Other than that very nice predictiguesstimation.

When you break it down

It really shows how fragile the NBA season is. I can see that 48 wins is very realistic, but you are only a few possesions from going to 50 wins and a 7 seed or 46 Wins and out all together. Of course we focus on the Lakers and Spurs and the Jazz, but its those games in mid Jan – Feb, Golden State on the road, or New Jersey that scare me. I know the Blazers will be up for the best teams. Its the games they should win that I worry most about. I guess thats the real difference between young teams and veteran teams, but I expect their talent to overcome some poor performances. In the end I think you are spot on with your predictions.

It was Steve Smith. It was like a one-year deal that Fox Sports did—they actually produced an NBA game and had Steve Smith in a number 8 blazers jersey on the cover, with a couple cheesy spotlights on him.

As an aside, Arvydas was on the European cover of NBA Live 2001, but I figured that didn’t count, since most of us play the U.S. version of the game (which had KG)

51-32

Ten game improvement from this bunch. I won’t do a prediction for each game, but I will do some player predictions!

PG: Blake 7 ppg, 4 AST, 2 Reb. 41% FG, 40% 3PT, 80%+ FT.
Blake is Mr. Consistant for this team, but I think his numbers will go down slightly this year, becuase I feel Bayless will take most of his late season minutes. But he is still a vital part of this team winning ball games.
SG: Roy: 20 ppg, 6 AST, 5 Reb. 48% FG, 38% 3PT, 80% FT.
Roy’s improvement this year will be small in over all numbers, but very big in helping the Blazers win more. This is because he will be much more efficient in his offensive sets. From reading J. Quicks article on Roy it is clear to me that he gets it, and is working on his game to be more efficient.
SF: Webster: 12 ppg, 1.5 AST, 4 Rebs, 45% FG, 42% 3PT, 78%, FT.
Web will benefit from Oden more than any other player on the team. He will see more wide open 3 point attempts this year than he can stand. Look for his 3pt attempts to go up, and his 2 point attempts to go down.
PF: LMA: 19.5 PPG, 2 AST, 9 REB, 1.5 BPG, 46% FG, 78% FT.
LaMarcus will see a slight drop in his FG% because he will be shooting more jumpers than hook shots this year, but he will be shooting more often, and as a result up his scoring avg. He and Oden will help each other get more blocks and rebounds than either could do alone.
C: Oden: 15 PPG, 3 AST, 10 REB, 2.0 BPG, 50% FG, 75% FT.
Oden will adapt quickly to the NBA game. The first month may be the wake up call that coach Nate wants, but after that he will come on strong. Even during the first month he will hold his own vs the Howards and Shaq’s and dominate the PF’s playing out of position. A healthy diet of dunks and put backs will lead to a great FG%.
Bench: Outlaw: 13 PPG, 1 AST, 4.5 REB, 1 BPG, 45% FG, 40% 3PT, 75% FT.
I am convinced that Outlaw is the player we saw last season. He might improve a little in some area’s, however I believe he is at his peak, and should stay there for the forseable future.
Bayless: 11 PPG, 3 AST, 3 REB, 44% FG, 35% 3 PT, 80% FT.
As I said when talking about Blake, I feel he will really come on in the second half of the season. He will get PG back up minutes at first, but Nate will slowy start to trust him, and eventually he will be part of the backcourt in the 4th qtr of close games, mostly because of the defense he will play against PGs.
RUDY: 9 PPG, 4 AST, 2 REB, 47% FG, 41% 3PT, 80%+ FT.
Rudy will be up and down his rookie year, but he will show flashes of greatness. I see him and Bayless both handling the point with the second unit, (although Bayless will handle more) Rudy will be our cheap man’s ROY for the second unit. He will facilitate well, and make some ridiculus shots.

The rest don’t matter enough to predict, while Pryz, Frye, etc.. are important to this team winning this year, their roles are way to up in the air right now to predict anything.

I would be pleased with another 41-41

Terrific post—good work. Above all I enjoyed Oden’s dunk over Bogut at the buzzer.

However, I think the Blazers will have a tough time replicating last year’s win total. The loss of James Jones I think we have underestimated. And as excited as we get about the vicious three-headed Cerberus of Oden, Fernandez, and Bayless - and as much as the media feeds that hype - I believe they’ll take at least a year to adjust to the pro game, to treating winning games as a way of life, as a habit. The Outlaw shot at the buzzer last year? Great win, no doubt - one that I have youtubed countless times - but that was young team’s celebration, a team not used to close victories. Eventually post-game conferences will become as boring as the ones in the Rip City years. “Wow, you guys won! What do you have to say?” the reporters ask. Roy or Oden or whoever, they’ll just shake their head. “What did you expect? A loss?”

More importantly, my biggest criticism with the W-L schedule posted above is the Blazers’ record against very good teams, by which I mean teams with a large points scored/points allowed disparity in 2007-2008 (Boston, L.A., Utah, etc.). According to your predictions, the Blazers trump good teams: apart from Detroit, who beats them twice, the Blazers either post a .500 record against the strongest, or they win the season series outright. Take, for instance, the Lakers. The Blazers are typically good against the hated yellow-bellies, but I have a hard time seeing them winning the series next year with Bynum back in the lineup. And even scarier - again, according to your prediction - the Blazers choke against the small fry. To Atlanta? And the Clippers? That worries me.

I say, if the Blazers get a 41-41 season, and they consistently beat the weaker teams, with occasional victories against the strongest teams, that would be a huge success. Good teams easily beat up the weak and compete valiantly against the strongest. Remember the Rip City days, games against Denver and Sacramento? The Blazers would roll up about 145 points and win by thirty. Ainge was raining threes all over the Kings.

+/- review

Your comment about the loss of Jones makes sense to me. On paper, at least, we appear to improve at every position but SF:

Blake/Bayless/Rodriguez >= Blake/Jack/Rodriguez
Roy/Fernandez >= Roy/Jack/VonWafer
Webster/Outlaw ?? Webster/Jones
Aldridge/Frye/Diogu >= Aldridge/Outlaw/McRoberts
Oden/Pryzbilla >= Pryzbilla/Frye/LaFrentz/Aldridge

Despite how much all of us love Webster and Outlaw, whether we improve, regress, or tread water at SF has to be a wildcard. We are betting that both Webster and Outlaw have progressed sufficiently to compensate for Jones’ loss. Experience usually matters, and his experience will be missed. But then again, Mr Pritchard doesn’t seem to place many unwarranted bets.

There is more reason to believe (hope?) you are a bit too pessimistic. As one example, according to 82games, last season the Blazer centers Net PER ranked 18 in the league:

Rank Team Net PER

1 Orlando +7.6 Howard-Foyle
2 Toronto +6.8 Bosh-Nesterovic-Brezec
3 San Antonio +6.1 Duncan-Oberto-Thomas
4 Houston +4.3 Ming-Mutombo-Scola
5 Phoenix +3.8 Stoudemire-O’Neal-Diaw
6 L*kers +3.7 Bynam-Gasol-Mihm-Turiaf-Brown
7 Minnesota +3.2 Jefferson-Smith-Richard
8 Utah +2.0 Okur-Collins-Boozer
9 Detroit +1.1 Wallace-Maxiell-Mohammed
10 New York +1.0 Curry-Randolph-Lee-Rose
11 Cleveland +0.9 Ilgauskas-Varejao-Wallace-Gooden-DwJones
12 Boston +0.5 Perkins-Davis-Garnett-Powe
13 Denver +0.3 Camby-Martin-Najera-Nene
14 Washington -0.2 Haywood-Songaila-Blatche
15 Milwaukee -1.0 Bogut-Ruffin-Gadzuric-Voskuhl
16 Philadelphia -1.1 Dalembert-Smith-Evans
17 Golden State -1.3 Biedrins-Harrington-Croshere
18 Portland -1.3 Pryzbilla-Frye-Aldridge-LaFrentz

I have included last year’s presumptive centers, although we know there has been some realignment. With both Oden and Pryzbilla available, what is a realistic net PER at center for the Blazers next season? It seems to me that an improvement to anywhere between 10th and 3rd in the league is a reasonable SWAG. Assuming that next season’s net PER will correspond to ranking in the same way, if the Oden-Pryzbilla tag team rank improves to about 10th place, that represents a net PER improvement of around +2.3, which ought to be good for 3 or 4 more wins. An improvement to around 3rd place represents a net PER improvement of about +7.4, which ought to represent an improvement of 10 or 12 games. If you average the extremes to approximate a “most likely” scenario, this says to expect an improvement of 7 or 8 games on the basis of center alone.

Should the uncertainty at SF cancel this boost? While the SF might lose three or four games that Jones won for us last season, it doesn’t seem plausible that together their combined inexperience/BBIQ/inconsistency/defense will erase all of the improvements at the other positions.

I don’t know. Maybe last season we won 5 to 10 games we shouldn’t have, but I think this happened because our team followed Coach McMillan’s instructions when the game was on the line. We won’t lose this asset next season, and so I can’t help hoping for 45 to 50 wins next season with the influx of talent.

I'm not sure of the correlation.

I think the anti-hype they speak of is regarding people with tempered expectations, of which I count myself one. I’m not anti-hype, I just have what I feel are reasonable expectations for next year. If those expectations happen to be lower than yours, or yours, well . . . whatever. It doesn’t make me anti-hype. It makes me easier to please.

Simple

I’m not getting my hopes up for Oden. He has to win back my love. I have zero, none, nadda, zilch, el blankamino, nuh-uh, nothing, expectations of him this year. I won’t jump on his bandwagon until after the all star break. I’m on the Rudy bandwagon and I plan on complaining about Nate in every post if he’s not playing up to my expectations.

As for Bayless, he’s a 19 year old rookie. I think he’ll play but not significantly until later in the season because he’s a smelly rookie.

Well...

did you see the practice videos of oden? that boy is RUSTY!!!

That said, when it starts clicking, he’ll be fearsome. The real question that everything depends on is WHEN will it click for him.

I’m going to disagree with you. 48 wins, but i reserve the right to revise after preseason before games begin.

I say 48 because we did lose some vet experience.

As for the anti-hype, i suspect it’s because a NUMBER of BE members became very negative towards the blazers. If you expect 58 wins and they didn’t win four in a row, then people get really upset.

I think 48 is realistic as we have three new people on the roster and they’re all significant pieces. We also LOST two important pieces to success last year.

Only part that looked rusty

Was his dribbling. I thought he looked really good, especially for someone with ‘no offense’. He’s got the touch, he can dunk, he’s QUICK—basically, if that’s rusty (which it is, I guess), I can’t wait to see ummm, non-rusty is the word I guess.

Rustiness goes away fast once you start really playing, in my experience.

I think True Hoop pointed it out, but every team is complaining about their schedule. The West is just a beetch this year, but that ain’t any different than last season. We’ve improved a great deal over last season with the addition of Oden/Rudy/Bayless, and other teams haven’t, so the toughness of the schedule (a problem last year as well) is more ‘just the way it is’ and everyone has to deal with it…

Even rusty, the way he MOVES, his touch, especially for being not in game shape and 20 lbs heavy… Oden looks awesome.

Outsiders (and I guess even a lot of people here, who predict he’ll struggle to get double digits in points) will be really surprised with his offense. That’s another prediction!

My differences, with a few comments

Overall, the Blazers have a better season in my scenario, but I don’t have them losing games to second tier teams, and have them with an excellent record at home and a .500 road record. Pretty much a best case scenario.

Fri, Oct 31 – We beat the Spurs. Welcome to the season, guys, you’re not getting any younger!
Wed, Nov 5 – We lose at Utah at the Salt Palace. Why is it so hard to win there?
Thu, Nov 6 – We lose at home to Houston, after traveling 1000 miles to play a back to back.
Tue, Nov 18 – We should win at Golden State, and we do
Fri, Nov 21 – Sacramento is in a rebuilding year, we are built, and win.
Fri, Nov 28 – New Orleans not quite good enough to win this one in the Rose Garden.
Sun, Dec 7 – Toronto is not all that, Jermaine O’Neal is hurt and doesn’t play. We win.
Thu, Dec 18 – The Suns find out Portland is much tougher at home, and when not coming off back to backs like we were the first two times we played them.
Mon, Dec 22 – Denver misses Camby and Najera. We play defense, and that turns out to be the difference as the Blazers win.
Fri, Jan 2 – Chris Paul does not want to come to Portland anymore, NO comes up short.
Sun, Jan 4 – LA L*kers outplay us in Staples. Blazers lose.
Mon, Jan 12 – Coaching in the NBA is hard! Bad news for Del Curry, we win.
Wed, Jan 14 – Philly is rusty after too many days off, Blazers sneak away with a road win.
Sat, Jan 24 – We owe the Wizards a spanking, and it is delivered.
Wed, Feb 4 – Dallas plays well at home, and the Blazers drop another one.
Wed, Feb 25 – San Antonio realizes the Portland home opener was no fluke, we pick up a close win on their home floor.
Sun, Mar 1 – The Spurs get their revenge on national TV. It’s an odd year, so don’t count them out. Blazers lose.
Wed, Mar 4 – Indiana players do not want to follow a Blazer home loss. Blazers come out hungry and win.
Fri, Mar 13 – A close loss at home to the Nets on a night where the team can’t seem to put it together. A rare exception to the not losing to lottery bound teams trend.
Mon, Mar 16 – Memphis not ready to play with this Blazer team this year – we win.
Mon, Mar 23 – Philadelphia can’t put all the pieces together against the Blazers this year, this is a Blazers victory.
Tue, Mar 31 – Utah needs this win to assert their divisional dominance. They don’t get it, we win at home again.
Wed, Apr 8 – We lose a squeaker in San Antonio. We have their attention now.
Sat, Apr 11 – The Clippers are playing for lottery position at this point, the Blazers are jockeying for a better playoff spot. We win.
Wed, Apr 15 – With third place in the division locked up, Nate rests his starters and we hand this victory to the lottery bound Nuggets on national TV.

Final record: 57-25, home record 35-6, road record 22-19
Record on second game of back to backs: 8-6, it sure is nice to have young legs!

Not just young legs, superb depth

Back to backs will hurt us, but not badly. An adjustment for the rookies the first few times, but they’ll learn.

If I could know exactly what games Portland was going to win and lose...

I wouldn’t want to. There would be no point in watching the games. I think we will win 50 games, maybe more. I think we have a chance to win every single game no matter what team we play now. Sort of like how the Spurs are usually favored, I see myself becoming that confident in this team.

by BRoyInThe4th on Aug 6, 2008 6:18 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

i think we win at least 49

thats if all thing dont go glorious. I also think that it wont take as many wins this year to snag the top spot, as this years east will be stronger then last years weakest east ever.

Okay, here is my "schedule prediction" using a similar format to what prezofdeath did - with comments

Link Google Doc Table.

I call it a “good case”: We win a few games against the great ones, have winning stretches, but also sustain some losses that might have been avoided against weaker teams. It’s neither the worst one where we lose a lot of games against both superior and inferior teams but also neither a best one where we win all the time and crush weaker competition. Blindly, I was saying we would go for 50 wins and make the playoffs with the addition of Oden, Bayless, Rudy. Now going through this tough schedule, I came to a gloomier prediction (give or take a win or two):

44 – 38

That gets you to the playoffs in the East, but in the West it might not be enough. Sorry. But hey, we will make a big trade for RLEC with Memphis before the deadline to improve for next year (see comments) ;-)
I will update this at least once before opening day when the rosters are more defined and there is less uncertainty.

55 - 27

When GO went down last year, everyone was moaning
and groaning about another losing season. I predicted
40 to 42 wins, and the rest is history. Many fans didn’t
see the improvement BRoy, Smooth and others had
in store for the NBA.
This year will be special (with good health) for several
reasons. We still have some great chemistry with mostly
homegrown players. GO will give us the much needed
force in the middle with D, Rebounding and everything within
TEN feet being thrown down. Moving Joel to the white unit
will give us toughness, screens (and O fouls) and the defense/
rebounding we didn’t have on the white squad last year.
Smooth, Martell & TO will all be improved with off season
strength and ballhandling work. Adding Rudy & T-Rex will give
the white unit additional scoring punch to go with TO’s step
back jumper and Frye’s pick and pop game. The team will
be much better amidst some ups & downs. I think we will
contend for home court advantage in the 1st round and if
healthy, we could go to the WCF.
Just one Blazermaniac/GOF/Homer’s opinion. Now . . .

What did ya say?

Bust-out-of-the-NBA, horrid year?

A Web-slinging explosion?

If ya predicted doom and gloom, it’s a good example of just waitin’ and seein’ with the youth. If ya predicted allstar selections, it’s a good example of just waitin’ and seein’ with the youth.

MY PREDICTION: This season, even just the early part, decides Webster’s future with the Blazers. I think he’ll have a good career for someone, but his still-rawness, his contract situation (the cap hold), and the fact we wanna be WINNING all combine to make or break time.

Mortimer

Agree with your third paragraph.

I predicted more of a break out than he had. I think i had four extra points as his average. I don’t even want to look. Everything else was pretty close though, even my win record.

Hey, that's not too bad then

Ya predicted a good scoring season where he shows he’s an NBA player. He did that!

If he got more shots, he’d fulfill your prediction. I wanted to see good enough defense to be out on the floor, some fire, some good games, and good percentages. He did all that for the most part.

Will he get enough shots to be useful? We’ll see…

Fantastic 4th quarters for Outlaw and game winners aside, Martell’s near 11ppg while being the 3rd/4th/5th option on offense is just as or MORE impressive than Outlaw’s 13ppg as a 1st/2nd option.

Of course, I think Martell would maybe be dealt a blow to his ego/confidence to lose the starting job, even if it gave him more shots, while Outlaw is perfectly fine coming off the bench and probably prefers it. So, Outlaw’s demeanor allows him to accept that role and thrive in it, while Martell might not see past the ‘not a starter’ part and see it as a demotion.

I think both will have really good seasons though, and in Martell’s case I hope he starts it off early and we sign him for cheap-ish. He’ll still have good value, removes the cap hold, and he can be signed for a short-term relatively cheapie deal that gives him a chance to either have a breakout and get more money soon or head to another team if the Blazers isn’t the right situation for him.

3M Memories

Your analysis is excellent, but I think you underestimate.
This is 3M’s season. We all know it, so I’m sure he knows it.
The core of BE knows I’ve been pimping him for years.
I always thought the naysayers had it wrong in playing
Martell against Chris Paul. Yeah, I know . . . we could have …
Point being, we have who we have. 3M has had his growing
pains, just like Outlaw did. The difference is 3M has a NBA
BODY and the raw shooting ability that could transform him
into All-Star someday. He has the home grown, big smile
youthful exuberance that gives a nice rounding to this great
group of young men. I know a little something about college
age athlete’s from coaching and I see how Martell’s development
is rounding into shape thru experience and hard work.
All of us would agree he made some leaps forward
in driving to the basket, defense, rebounding, even if the leaps
were inconsistant. Remember, this would be his senior year
at UW. Contract year + summer of ballhandling/shooting/movement
without the ball = 3M
Sign him while you can KP. You won’t regret the decision.

It's GO time !
