Junk Drawer / 8-5-08 Starting at New Time : 3am
its 206 in the morning and im tired, its time to go to bed. but first to tend to the daily chore of opening another drawer for the summer daily overflow. Question - whats the ratio of time you spend on the BEdge, home to work. for me, since internett was banned at my old work, its allways been 100% at home activity, 'cept when i would sneek my laptop in. just curious. 'nother question - shouldn't TIH be defacto responsible for the junk drawers, since he kinda is the off topic king and all?
will be sleeping no less then 3 minutes after i click publish

I don’t jump back on until 3:00 AM PST. What would people do without a junk drawer from Midnight until then? I heard Oden practiced. My first though was, “Oh great, now everyone is going to talking about how great Oden is and how he should be starting as the point guard this year.”

Oh Yeah
Your first question: I spend about 4 – 6 hours on here at work and then when I get home at 9:00 AM HST, I check in off and on until noon or 1:00 PM HST. I like to hang out here when I’m avoiding housework, and there are more people to banter with. After that I try to avoid this place so that I have something to read at work.

What is the deal with people thinking some old vet who will hardly get any playing time and just sit next to Raef is going to have some sort of Bagger Vance effect on the team?

We could have a vet come in there and tell stories about the good old times over dinner and training
Might be cheaper, and have the same effect. We could even do it for different positions. A nice guy like Dikembe could talk with Oden and Joel, Reggie Miller with our guards, etc.
I also think that’s J. Kidd’s main role on Team US.

Love it
In an article recently written by Bill Simmons, writer for ESPN, he mentioned that Kevin Pritchard, possibly the best GM in the NBA right now, makes hundreds of calls to teams asking about the availibility of players and chances of making trades. That according to Simmons and Pritchard himself is a big reason why Portland continues to make good deals. Not only do they have one of the most talented young teams in the NBA, but they had anywhere between 30 and 47 draft picks in last month’s draft. If you thought to yourself, “it seems like Portland picks every other time” during this last draft, there is a reason: they pretty much did.

Questions re HomeWork BEdge
Does your boss at work allow blogging on company time? If you only BEdge at home, do you neglect chores or “improvement” activities to blog? Does BEdge have higher priority than any other computer activitiy? Do you click on that BEdge icon even before you have your coffee or engage in other initial daily behavior? Do you set time restrictions for yourself? Does BEdge lead you to other activities that you would not have engaged in, had you not been “inspired” by BEdge? (I see some great research being done on behalf of BEdge.) Do you stay up beyond midnight because of BEdge? (Parents excused) If you go without BEdge for more than a couple days, do you experience withdrawal symptoms?
What is “glutronamin” ?

‘Backup Aussie point guard Paddy Mills was a blur, the fastest player I’ve seen since Allen Iverson was a rookie. He plays Division I ball in the U.S. for St. Mary’s (Calif.), where he just finished his freshman season, and he told ESPN.com he has run 400 meters in 49 seconds.”

The guy is like 5’10 and still had problems bringing the ball up court against defense from Kobe, Kidd, Paul. Bring Bassy back if we want a small PG. I hear Iverson’s contract also runs out, so we could get the original…

Yeah, my comment was more in the general direction of the ESPN analysts who push every guy they "discover"
Not meant to criticize or insinuate that you might actually want to bring him on board.
Yet as Dave said, we will still draft PG prospects for years to come. Next year it might be Beaubois as a late first/early second rounder. That’s our area for continuous improvement experiments. Like Seattle drafting a big man project seemingly every year.

That's part of the problem
There’s no Dan Dickaus or Juan Dixons or Ruben Pattersons or Darius Mileses whose suckiness is agreed upon by all. All 14 players under contract I really like now, for the first time in ever. In EVER!
So, trade scenarios are gonna get someone riled up because everyone has their cheerleaders here. I think the only one who is safe to theoritically trade in a fanpost is Raef, but even then the steady answer will be ‘let’s wait and see’.
We just have too many good players that are extremely likeable. We need to consolidate some of that likeable-ness and get 1 or 2 players everyone can agree need to be traded, so we can have a steady diet of ‘ok’ trade scenarios in fanposts here at Blazers Edge!
KP do your job dammit!

I can show you at least one guy who loves Juan Dixon: Gil Arenas
http://my.nba.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5800009898
His latest blog post is hilarious again anyway. He has answers for everything: Player movements, going to Europe, best player ever, why there is no use in voting (did you know there are hidden delegates who decide who becomes president? I didn’t, but Gil opened my eyes).
And the best part: His new pool. People give Agent Zero flack about his pool? You have seen nothing yet, his pool will be bigger and better than everything you have seen in “Girls of the Playboy Mansion” and on the leaked pictures. With not one, not two, but three huge fish tanks. With sharks. Yes, bullsharks. In his former weight room. Yup. Because he can.

Oh man, comic genius
Gil on why he doesn’t like to vote:
“There’s another reason I don’t vote – I don’t want jury duty. If you’re not registered to vote, you can’t get jury duty. I know that campaign Diddy had a couple years ago, "Vote or Die," yeah if the alternative is jury duty, I’m going to die. I’m not going to get in one of these cases where they blow the jury members’ houses up to get out of the trial, I’m cool. I’ve seen too many movies.”

I met him once, back during his “Almost Live” days in Seattle. Interesting dude. Kinda dorky, but who am I to judge. He went on to big time, national exposure.

clearly his info is suspect in general
but I would just like to point out that in a lot of states, juries are also selected from DMV and/or tax records. So he might as well vote.

one sec there Mortimer
why does your name remind me of a Jim Henson Puppet? Back to the subject, Mortimer. neither Dan Dickau nor Juan Dixon “that word use use”-ed because I far I as have ever seen they were quality guys. They dont deserve mention in the same sentence, much less paragraph, as the two latter ill-minded malcontented bad characters in your latter opening.
Dixon and Dickau have been quality jobbers throught their career, uninvolved in the shenanagins DQ and The Sandwich ever complicited themselves in.
Here’s the deal… whats Dan Dickau and Juan Dixon ever done to earn your “that word” tag when arguably DQ and The Sandwich were each better overall players. What separated these pairs was not the quality of their play, and doesnt justify why they are no longer Blazers. I respect Dan and Juans contributions.
Its Gonzo you remind me of… no bad… he was always my favorite part of the show

A: ratio of time spent bedgin'
hmmm…. hard to say. Its on all the time because with COMCAST- everybodies favorite provider- I can always be on.. even tho I do shut down my puter to save electricity…. and even when online I am usually otherwise disctracted in one manner or the other, so considering that, allowing for time spent kicking cats off the keyboard or from blocking the screen Id have to say I spent too much time here…. sorry its not seemingly quantifiable using my own differentials which mean its probly way to much time….
so the answer is way to much time…. wait no its not. Let me get back to you, on this. Its a percentage somewhere between too much and too little I cant seem to narrow down.

Wanna spend 20 bucks on a shirt in the NBA store that remains property of Oklahoma City Basketball?
Do they now plan to keep that crappy name? True junk.

I found a really cool old school Blazers shirt at the thrift store yesterday, the price tag said 2$ but when i took it to the counter the guy said we are having a pink tag sale today so this is only 10 cents. It actually has a sort of serial number of sorts,lgoo4924.I would love to date it but I am not going for the carbon 14 test

In slightly related news, their #24 draft pick Serge Ibaka had no interest in putting on their new jersey
Or they had no interest in putting him in the jersey already. He signed a three year contract in Spain (with buyout clauses).

by raoulduke on Aug 5, 2008 7:54 PM PDT reply actions 0 recs
YES it was pretty good
worth a download and channing always has tons of quoteables. When asked what his expectations are for Greg as far as production for next season he said “none at all”. When asked to clarify that, he said
“greg has had one practice and its not fair to judge…........ as long as he give 110% we are happy”.

Blazers v. Spurs 1990 Game 7
Anyone watching this? Porter can’t miss. Up tempo basketball is fantastic – there was some graphic that said Detroit was on a playoff record pace of “only” allowing 94 pt/sgame. Someone stop Terry Cummings from cherry picking. The start of the David Robinson choking in the playoffs era. There is a lot of smart trapping of the ball – what a concept.

It looked like the film was sped up by about half, things moved so quickly. Fun game to watch.
It certainly showcased Terry Porter.

Now with Oden to clean up
I hope we see more of LMA trapping fools with his quicks and lanks. He could afford to do the Dwyane Wade ball-hawk thang and let Oden guard two guys at once, since Oden will need a challenge every few games to keep himself interested.
I remember liking it a lot when LMA traps or puts pressure on the perimeter, since he’s good at because of his aforementioned lanky lanks and quicky quicks. ‘Course, puts him out of reboundin’ position, but that Oden guy can do that to.
We can depend on Oden for all of our needs, because he depends on our love.
