Travis Outlaw
What can I say? I love the guy...
Outlaws Sportcenter #1 Highlight
Such a Humble Dude
People talk down on his defense, but theres no denying his ability to help defend the middle......... in highschool he averaged 6 blocks per game
And there's just not that many guys in the leage that can do this
As far as the Webster/Outlaw debate: who do you want at the end of the game more, webster or outlaw?……….im as big a Webster fan as anybody, but he’s not as important as Outlaw….sure we got a lot of other clutch players(Roy, Rudy, soon to be Bayless), but we’re likely not goin to a 3 guard set to end the game………when the game is on the line, we’re going to need outlaw on the wing for Brandon to kick it to, Rudy also (though i see more of Rudy cutting to the basket)..Also, his athleticism would be missed. There are so few guys with his combination of physical atributes. He truly is a matchup nightmare……….with Webster in the game theres more pressure for Roy to create, cuz when the shot clock is winding down, Martell struggles at creating his own high percentage shot.
Basically I REALLY dont want us to trade Outlaw unless it’s for a point forward like Tmac…or somebody with the Defensive and physical skills of a Shawn Marion………that element of athleticism is one aspect of the game we do not want to lose, and Travis gives us that.
He also matches up with Kobe really nicely, which is important in the upcoming years. Few people of his length have the quickness to stay with Kobe.
Really, there's a lot of things I like about Trout. Maybe what I like most about Travis is his sense of genuinship, and the fact that on the team he's Roy's best friend. Not to mention his willingness to come off the bench, and how important he is to our team chemistry. People posting trade rumors around Travis hit on a touchy subject because so few realize his potential..Come playoff time, I want Travis in the 4th Quarter.

Interesting side bit from the first article
“Mississippi State was hoping that Outlaw could help replenish a lineup that lost three starters from last season, including center Mario Austin who decided to skip his senior season and go pro.”
Mario who?

I trust KP
he isnt going to trade Outlaw… just not going to happen. I dont care how enticing a trade for Shane Battier might be, its not going to happen.
The PTB is set. All the team needs now is time to learn some chemistry, otherwise all the pieces are there, and more.

I couldnt agree more
thats why i dont care about the salary cap space.. If every one stays content and realizes that they are apart of something special then we just need time to jell its really up to greg brandon and lamarcus to keep thier egos in check,, everyone else will have to fall in line… think tim duncan
if it can be conceived it can be achieved

right now
id rather have trout at the end of games, but in the future, i think that i will take future webster over future trout. That is asuming that Web will be able to blossom with oden in the middle, and continue to improve,

Shane Battier doesn't entice me very much, we need a young "big small forward" (3/4)
I’m just not completely convinced we will keep Outlaw for the future. I love his personality and of course it would be great if we could keep him at least as a backup, but since his contract is attractive he naturally will continue to come up in a lot of trade discussions. Webster is a different player type and positions more like a 2/3, so trying to discern the better one is a little like comparing apples and oranges. And while Batum’s ceiling is high he is so raw it’s hard to tell if he will develop more into a defensive specialist or have a great game on both ends.
Pretty much the only “big small forward” who I would rather like to have over Travis is Danny Granger (preferably not via trade but with our cap space next year when he could be a RFA). He is just a year older than Travis, but probably due to the fact that he stayed in college for the whole time seems more complete as a player and ranks among the top guys in the league already in so many categories. Can shoot from the perimeter in motion or standing, drive inside, hit his free throws, etc. By all accounts he is a hard worker (see beginning of this video) and all-around nice guy, and would fit right in our championship window as a third scoring option and solid defender.
Granger over the course of the game and Outlaw in crunch time for really close games would be ideal ;-)

Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

i'm right with you on granger
he’s one of the only young SFs i’d pick up before him, and if at all possible i’d do it via free agency

Brandon Roy Fantasy Football League?
What’s up with LG using Roy to advertise their FFootball league? (from the Danny Granger link above)
Anyone else think that weird?
Little known fact: Rudy Fernandez once roundhouse kicked Chuck Norris in the face while simultaneously dunking on it.

i would take Martell over of Travis
Martell’s game, in my opinion, fits better in a team enviroment.

fun to watch
Aside from his talent, Outlaw is just fun to watch. He is my favorite Blazer and there is not a lot I would trade him for.
On another note (and the real reason I just signed up for BE), I don’t understand how people can agree with us winning just 3 more games than last season with the new talent that has arrived! I mean we didn’t win an away game for like a forth of the season last year. How is it not realistic or expected that we get to 50 wins? Aside from the new-comers, players like Outlaw and everyone else are going to improve.
I know this is not REALLY related to this post but I have been wanting to contribute/vent my thoughts for sometime now and just haven’t had an account.

it seems that there are numerous others
If I recall correctly Mr. Outlaw is always one of the most popular players in Blazer Nation.

I think Outlaw's head is in a better place.
Outlaw’s game is so zen sometimes, he just does what he needs to do. I think Martell Webster needs to be pissed to really play at his top game, and when he is he can be a monster. But it seems to be pretty rare. I don’t even want to think about Marion or Battier, I think there is an intangible quality that the blazers have right now and I don’t even think it was intended. This team is humble, they play for the team and not for personal glory. Who out there thinks that any of these rumored pickups aren’t going to come with baggage. Marion definately is a headcase, Butler coming over from the wizards after taking over for Arenas? Battier? We are lucky that these guys are so young, they’re not full of themselves yet. Now if they can just get some serious wins under their belts as a team, maybe all of this egotistical garbage that the elite teams deal with can be avoided. That’s my two cents.

Let's Go.
Outlaw’s goal is 16 points and 8 rebounds – and he wants to start. If we get that, and some defense out of him, then you can forget about trading him. The argument he seems to have with Mac sometimes is that he loves his jumper, but Mac would also like him to go to the hoop a little more since he’s so athletic and can clearly jam that ball over and around a lot of players. And then, he also wants to start, not necessarily be the points off the bench on the second unit – although he understands that given the players on the 1st unit – he’s not likely to get as many touches – and therefore, as many points.
I also re-read an August 19 interview Quck did with Blake on the “Rip City Revival” blog. Blake is absolutely determined to take and keep the point guard post. His 8.5 ppg and 5.1 apg in 29 minutes were highs, and he has been working everyday hard, all summer, to make sure he keeps that position and improves those stats.
Now, add to this all the hard work Frye has put in all summer to improve his shot and his conditioning, and the fact that both Frye and Blake have been the key players to work with Oden to get him in shape and ready to play, and all you need to know as a fan is that Rudy, Bayless and Webster aren’t going to get anything just handed to them. They’re going to have to earn it.
Those practices are every bit as likely to produce confrontations – as the games are. Blake is determined to keep Fernandez and Bayless on the second team, Frye is determined to take minutes from Pryz behind Oden, and Outlaw wants to take over Websters position.
These guys smell the future – and everyone of them want to be a part of it, and it’s going to make for some fierce competition.
The weak or the lazy need to no longer apply in Portland.
And as far as mental toughness, I’ll bet that issue simply goes away. Blake and Oden both play aggressively and angerly, and neither will back away from anyone. Bayless and Fernandez show the same traits. Frye and Aldridge are both coming in stronger – and they’ll take the same line.
So Trout – get your mad on – you’re going to need it.
