SI Report Card:
The Blazers were handed their preseason report cards today by SI. They were given a decent grade...
Some good thoughts, mostly rehashed information and quotes rendered from the Oregonian in interviews and stuff like that. But I thought a key point by Aschburner was that the Blazers are still young and would be better to start modestly than to build upon the overhyped anticipation already.
ie. dont expect another 13 game winning streak.

Oh yeah baby
the Blazers will be starting the season off with a 13 game winnning streak. They have a lot of cheese poofs early in the schedule. Book it.
If that happens, I want to see...
…the national pundits fall all over themselves praising this team.
…free merchandise for every fan.
…the team given a parade every day until they win the finals.
Any others?

Good read, thanks
The author did invest quite a lot of thought (or at least time for the collection of tidbits) for his report cards.
Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."
I expected a health-of-Oden/Roy mention in the "what went wrong" category.
It was refreshing to see a current-state-of-the-Blazers analysis which treated
Greg’s microfrac and Roy’s meniscus repair as past-history topics, and not current-events.
That might just be totally appropriate.

don't expect a 13 game streak
expect a 20 game streak. I agree that we aren’t number 5 overall, but we are going to leapfrog some of those aging clubs down in the southwest division. Heres how I see the West:
1. San Antonio-Duncan reminds us that he is Tim Duncan.
2. New Orleans-CP3 vs…
3. Utah-D Will for MVP.
4. LA- Don’t think Bynum and Kobe can coexist, but Gasol and Kobe get along fine.
5. Portland-Oden doesn’t begin his reign of terror until late in the season.
6. Phoenix- Nash is starting to break down physically, but Barbosa gets more minutes.
7. Houston-T-Mac injury inevitable
8. Dallas-Dirk demands trade after Cuban throws a hissy fit.
Not really
I just have a lot of respect for Deron Williams, and I think the guy should be a consideration for MVP.
I hear ya
but there are a lot of guys to beat out. He’s not even the best PG in the league.
The street lights is on.
Well,
He averaged very similar numbers to Chris Paul last season and shot a better FG% and a better 3PT%. He is in the conversation.
Just like Chris Paul last year
He’s got the talent to make the jump to MVP caliber, a top 5 guy in the league, but I don’t think it’ll happen. I just don’t see him surpassing Paul, nor being in the top 5 (I think you can be in the MVP discussion even if you aren’t the undisputed best at your position, like Russell vs. Chamberlain). Lebron, Kobe, CP3, Wade and Garnett will probably be the top 5 vote getters, maybe even in that order, but don’t try to ban me from BE fatty-style if it doesn’t come true.
The street lights is on.
DraftExpress is doing a player by player scouting report of all teams to update their database
Currently they are at the Northwest Division, with Denver and Utah already done and the Blazers probably shortly behind. For each guy they provide a short overview and a breakdown of his offensive and defensive skills. Some things are repetitive or banal, but there are also a lot of nice observations.

(I e.g. learned that Kyle Korver has three brothers named Klayton, Kaleb, and Kirk who are also successful basketball players. Together with father Kevin they could form their own “All K Kover Team” – with no D.)

thank you, ive been following the jazz l8ly
and this is welcom
(our) great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit, our system of of credit is privately concentrated, the growth of our nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men... who necessarily, by very reason of their own limitations, chill and check and destroy genuine economic freedom.
We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world - no government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and the duress of small groups of dominant men.
