porter in 2011
looking into my crystal ball ,this is coming through the mist. After two playoff runs ending in bitter disappointments at the hands of the phenoix in 08-09 in the first round and the lakers in 09- 10in the second round ,coach mac steps down as head coach . Meanwhile ,after a good run in his first year with the suns, terry `s second yr ends up with drop to 10th in the west. With aging stars well into their late 30s , porter finds that all he can look forward to is rebuilding from scratch. Kp sees the possibility of having portlands floor leader from the past as the new coach of ptb. Summer league comes and goes with no word on a new coach. portland needs to make a move before training camp begins. labor day marks the beginning of the porter era. { and the first of three straight blazer championships}

Playoff runs ending at any point in the next two years, while mildly disappointing, will hardly be "bitter" disappointments
In your scenario, we get bumped in the first round to a veteran team, and then the next year beat somebody in the first round, a good team regardless of who it might be, and then lose to the Lakers in the second round. So that’s improvement every year . . . and Nate is going to step down? I’m not sure I agree with your thought processes.

Wow
That is pretty creative. Is it labor day you mean though? That is the holiday that is this weekend. Also, I dont think anyone would be bitterly disappointed in make the playoffs this year, even with a first round exit. And if we advance to the second round the year after that, that would be some good progress I think. Maybe if that happens, and Nate was looking to retire anyway, I could see it. Missing the playoffs for the next two seasons might be something that would be discouraging enough for Nate to step down though. Dang, that would suck.

alway get those two holidays mixed up
while the progress from one yr. to the next would normally be enough to keep from getting fired , i`m taking into the equation that 1. macs turning down a contraxct extention for whatever reason he has and 2. the fan bases expectations {you think its bad now ,just wait after two exits with no conference championship.} combine these two and you have the possibility of mac stepping down on his own.

Wouldn't that be cool if he could point to his jersey during timeouts
“Which one of us had his number retired? You do what I say! Okay, here is the plan…”
Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

I hope this doesn't happen
Nuthin’ against Porter, he’s one of my favorites, but I only have a neglible amount of knowledge regarding how good of a coach he is but judging from his playing career and how he got the Bucks to play over their heads, he’s prolly a good one.
But I KNOW Nate is a good coach, maybe even a great coach. He is very highly regarded league wide, even internationally. His defense is what you saw Team USA do. He’s got a great relationship with all of our great young players. That level of respect, admiration, and TRUST is hard to find.
Maybe Porter could be better, but I dunno.
If our team dissappoints and Nate gets the blame, maybe he wouldn’t be re-signed, but considering our age and inexperience, we’d have to really really do pretty poorly— and I’d rather think we’re gonna be good and not badly just so a favorite player from the past gets to coach us.
I like what Nate has done, and I think he’s the perfect coach for the future. He’s shown a willingness and capability to adapt and change, and often makes the “right” call. I don’t want to lose him.
Porter is in a bad situation in PHX, even though I think they’ll win 50+ games still, because they’re on the downside of their run. Hopefully the age of the players, the championship-run-ending-letdown, gets the blame and not Porter. He really seemed to get screwed by the Bucks and because he is Terry Porter he has to be an awesome coach.
Right now, I want Nate McMillan to coach Roy/LMA/Oden for a very long time. Right now, I think he will.

Agree
Nate’s gonna bring out the best in this team. He’s the perfect coach for us…

me too
I would be happy if things worked out like you say.the only reason this would happen is if nate decided to go becuase of reasons of his own.Since he didnt go for the extention, that possibility exists. If he leaves , i want porter over anyone else to take over.

Porter was fully available a couple of years ago when we were coachless.
That was the time, if ever.
We went for Nate instead.

Let's add him as an assistant
I think Nate is a coach to hang on to. Give TP an assistant position and earn him more rings than he has fingers
Sometimes I feel like I'm going in different directions...
