Junk Drawer 8-29

Well......College Football started last night. It was kind of a bummer summer without Tiger. I usually watched the Majors (to see what Tiger would do) because I hate watching baseball on TV. A 3 hour baseball game (to me) consists of 1/2 hr of action and 2.5 hrs of watching players scratch their butts/nutz. Glad there is finally something other than baseball (sportswise) to watch on TV (other than Rudy ...not really into the Olympics). I mostly ended up watching bunches of episodes of That 70's Show (That show basically depicted my life as a teenager).  Here's to Football. Yeh

Clyde Drexler still creates controversy

http://boards.espn.go.com/boards/mb/mb?sport=nba&id=general&tid=3311171&lid=48

Lengthy discussion (by ESPN board standards) about Clyde following a clip of the top ten plays of the 1992 finals in which he features prominently.

Lets dissect "BOOM-CHAKA-LAKA."

Boom – Obviously a terrorist threat or a call to arms for terrorist to blow something up.
Chaka – Most likely a Chaka Khan, an African American singer.
Laka – Most likely he is mispronouncing “Latka” from Latka Gravas of the TV show Taxi. Latka was a European.

So basically Brian Wheeler’s catchphrase is a call to arms for terrorist to attack African American’s and Europeans. Makes me wonder who he sits next to on the team plane.

The first day I ever met him he said: "Hi, I'm Ritchie White. I'm on probation."

Someday, in the not too distant future...

someone will ask why we call it ,“dialing the phone” when phones don’t have dials.

And nobody will know the answer.

I would rec the Junk Drawer, but I can’t handle the overwhelming pressure of needing to un-rec it tomorrow.

i don't agree with that, but thats a lot of bandwidth

i regularly use bittorrent and stream video at Hulu and i don’t come anywhere close to 250 gigs

Here is a comment from that article. I just learned that people in the UK and Austrailia would kill for this kind of bandwith allowance per month . . . interesting.

250 GB/month equates to 100kB/s all day, every day. Only a few years ago that would have involved getting the phone company to install fifteen extra land lines, putting a 56kbps (i.e. 7kB/s) modem on each, and paying for fifteen phone lines to be in use all the time. (Mux’ing together fifteen serial inputs is left as an exercise for the reader.)

Compare that to the cost of a broadband connection, and a cap of 250 GB (beyond which I imagine you pay more and/or get your connection throttled) doesn’t seem so unreasonable.

Patrick Ewing back with the Knicks

Jr. that is. Had to happen. Manifest destiny. There should have been a league rule before the draft that gets him on the Knicks roster. The Rockets acquired him in the Artest deal, and now gave him away for nothing, ehr, well they got the rights to New York’s 1999 draft pick Frederic “The Poster” Weis. At least Mr. Weis can serve as a bad example for how not to play defense. He could send Yao a copy to hang in his locker. If that will not nip Houston in the butt one day a la the Scola deal for San Antonio…

Well, NBA point guards can do that. But we should hire him as Travis Outlaw's dribbling coach right away ;-)

If he grows up to above 6’0, he might have a chance if he continues like this.

pretty good..........

those dribbling drills were cool…..but when i was in fifth grade, i could do a lot of those too, so im not entirly blown away. Ballhandling was always just my thing, clearly its his too…………..i’m more impressed by his mile time, that’s just insane for a kid his age…

by BroyTheTruth on Aug 29, 2008 2:28 PM PDT up reply actions

Agree

I learned most of those dribbling skills at a basketball camp about that same age, but he obviously has put a lot of time into it.

But that mile time is smoking fast at basically any age.

Bleacher Report Top 30 NBA Centers - Joel #26, Greg Oden n/a

by Norsktroll on Aug 29, 2008 2:38 PM PDT reply actions

thats weird..........

most of the guys on that list are Power Forwards…….

They got no chance at guarding an “Oden Type”. …..

If you subtract out the Power Forward typs from that list, Joel is in the top 10. Maybe around 9

by BroyTheTruth on Aug 29, 2008 2:57 PM PDT up reply actions

that list is trash . . .

if you’re going to list Al Jefferson or Udonis Haslem, not to name a few other players just as questionable in that list, as Centers, how in the heck can you not have KG, Amare Stoudemire, Tim Duncan, Chris Bosh . . . It reminds of a ridiculous arguement I was having with Night Blue Fruit a week or so ago, in which she said Magic Johnson was a center because he played it one time in one playoff game.
