OT: Court Rivals 8/28

Since the thread is falling down, falling down, here's another to keep you up to speed:

Some of you have noticed that Bedgers2 changed our name.  We felt that we deserved a name that didn't leave us as being "#2" to anyone else, so we took the name of this year's Finnish League Champions, Honka Playboys.

Continue your witty Court-Rivals-related banter here in this thread.

Team Updates:

B-Edge Odenizers:
Playground
22-12 (2-4)
288 rating

BlazersEdgers:
College Division D
16-20 (2-4)
234 rating

BEdgers:
College Division B
24-12 (6-0)
453 rating

Red Unit:
Playground
25-11 (1-6)
336 rating

Blazing The Edge:
Playground
12-17 (0-5)
178 rating

vERRYkERRPLEX:
College Division D
24-12 (5-2)
354 rating

Honka Playboys:
Pro Division D
23-13 (5-2)
517 rating

Just Blaze:
College Division C
28-8 (5-2)
441 rating

Honka Playboys have the highest rating of the Blazers Edge teams, but as far as I can tell, they are well short of making the playoffs this season, as the playoffs are mostly determined by rating and there a ton of college teams with a higher rating. Next season will be the season that Blazers Edge teams take over Court Rivals! Especially if there is half as much turnover in the Pro teams as rumored in the forums.

play-offs

are only in hte pro division??? is that what you’re saying?

Ford: Bill, you're claiming victory already? Have you had a "Mission Accomplished" banner printed yet?

No

But it was said by Doocar that the playoffs are heavily, if not entirely decided by rating. There are quite a few College teams rated higher than Pro teams.

by moko on Aug 30, 2008 12:59 AM PDT up reply actions

As it should be...

I was surprised when people poo-pooed on the rating stat on court rivals. Its a great stat and should be used to decide a BEdge playoff bracket in my opinion(Keep in mind that Bedgers2…I mean, the honka playgirls would beat us out for the #1 seed at this point) Its the only stat that takes into account the strength of the teams you have played, and how well you played against them. Evaluating by total training credits doesn’t make any sense to me. I could have a team full of shooting guards that trained their butt off, but couldn’t win a game cause nobody on the team can rebound. How hard a team trains is in no way representative of how well they perform together….

Other than

the bonus you get just for being in the division. A college C team (Call them C) gets a total of 13 points for beating a playground team while a playground team (Call them P) gets only 12. . Even if they train the same # of points per day and play exactly the same teams and win all, C keeps pulling away from P in the ratings. I think they need to tweak it so that you never get more than 12 points for beating a team more than 2 divisions below yours. (You have to make some allowances for team movement between the time a challenge is issued/accepted and the time it is played.)

next season thoughts

Hi all,
I’m the captain of Honka Playboys, and I’m checking here to see what people’s plans for next season are, seeing as how it looks like none of us will hit the playoffs (although we’re still holding out hope for HP). I know that we will be losing our top-flight PG, Point Guard, and PF, High Flier, for next season and will be looking for replacements, we need someone who is in the mid 600s by the end of this season at the least and will remain committed to training at least 10 points/day next season as well. Honka Playboys is the highest-rated and highest-trained B-Edge team, and losing Steve’s two players hurts so let me know if your player can step in and fill any of those needs.
Also my 440-point PF Abraham Lincoln will be team-shopping if anyone is looking for a PF.

Just Blaze

Has everyone coming back next season. BEdgers2 don’t get to have any more of our players.

by moko on Aug 31, 2008 8:26 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep,

we’ve already done our part stocking other teams. Now we’ll be stalking them … or rather since we’ll be in front they will be stalking us!

We beat the #2 College B team tonight (ahem, Bedgers) breaking their 9 game win streak … that’ll help our ratings.

Are ratings reset at the beginning of the season?

by jorga on Aug 31, 2008 9:27 PM PDT up reply actions

Yep they are

Just Blaze returning all players shows how good of people we have. We got off to a late start this so I look forward to what we can do in the future.

I'm not sure what Red Unit is doing

but I’m back next year. I’ll be at 600 pts at the end of the season. Reb/Def Center.

by Magnum on Sep 2, 2008 10:10 PM PDT up reply actions

Not sure

Currently I will be back for Red Unit and should be just under 600 by the end of the season 3pt Shooting F, but not sure about everyone else. I know we are losing Jay to Bedgers and maybe Sixth so will have to wait and see.

Just Blaze vs BlazersEdgers

Computer has set us up for a rematch tomorrow!

Does this mean that if when Just Blaze wins we are the sole 2nd in league at 6-2?

Yes, yes it does.

But that was over a month ago!

Please notice the current rating numbers … and the current win loss records.

We had only four losses in the month of August, one to a Pro team and 3 to College B teams. Face it, we’re good!

by jorga on Sep 2, 2008 9:17 PM PDT up reply actions

Oh sure Jorga...

Hate on the rating system until it works in your favor. sheesh. Good job though, I am impressed, even if you were trying to poke my team in the ribs…

PS We will be much stronger next season, we got a few tricks up our sleeves. Book it…

Gotta live in the present

Either way just blaze is a solid number 2 with an itch to play The Copycats and prove that we’re deserving of number one…

whoa son..... Wait a darn minute...

Who is undefeated in the BE league?? Didn’t my team thump yours when we met?? Don’t get too big in the britches just yet. We still have more training credits than you despite the fact that two of our players quit training weeks ago. We are clearly the #1 team of the BE league from season 3, honka playgirls are #2, and Just Blaze is a respectable #3. Good luck to you next season, but its all over for season 3 and the winner is the Bedgers….

Playoffs

Honka Playboys you guys need to get your name in the mix for the Court Rivals playoffs this year if you have not done so already. They will let you convince them as to why you should be included so what does it hurt to try.

I started out with nothing and I still have most of it.

by mg32 on Sep 3, 2008 7:46 AM PDT reply actions

Next season

I’m figuring there will be 3-4 BE teams in the playoffs at the rate the teams have been improving.

JB's own Claire Redfield

is now 10th in the league in field goal pct. (11th in quality stats). Congrats to Claire!!

(I love reflected glory.)

by jorga on Sep 3, 2008 5:38 PM PDT reply actions

Congratulations to Claire

A few other people have joked that Claire Redfield is whom my player wants to emulate. In a way, that is true. I really respect the efficient shooting, because that is something my player has struggled with at times. Without giving away any team secrets, is there any advice rmcdougall2 could give players who want to become more efficient shooters? Is it primarily attributes or sliders? If sliders, where do you generally put them?

by JayAcer on Sep 3, 2008 6:21 PM PDT up reply actions

Playoffs

I notice that the team JB beat last Sunday is seeded 16 in the North. What are the other BE teams’ records against playoff teams?
