Mac 10 Loves Rudy!

This is from O-Live. Great article about how much coach likes The Smooth Criminal. He was having a hard time not cheering on the dunk on howard, and keeping a straight, serious face whenever Rudy touched the ball. D'Antoni is a little green with envy too. Didn't mention than he could have had him in Phoenix! Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy,Rudy http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2008/08/rudy_fernandez_leaves_olympic.html

I started making dumb giddy noises a third into it,
…So he’s playing for us. Oh yeah. I see that right now."

Nate McMillion

(our) great industrial nation is controlled by its system of credit, our system of of credit is privately concentrated, the growth of our nation, therefore, and all our activities are in the hands of a few men... who necessarily, by very reason of their own limitations, chill and check and destroy genuine economic freedom.

We have come to be one of the worst ruled, one of the most completely controlled and dominated governments in the civilized world - no government by free opinion, no longer a government by conviction and the vote of the majority, but a government by the opinion and the duress of small groups of dominant men.

Ibid

Yow!!!

‘McMillan said that early in the Olympics, after watching Spain’s second game, he had a fitful night of sleep.

‘"I was so impressed with him that it was to the point where after the second time I saw him, I didn’t sleep that night because I was moving my rotations around," McMillan said. “I swear I did not sleep. I could not sleep thinking about him. Because I’m saying, ‘We can put him here, do this with him, do that with him and Brandon (Roy), and do this… So he’s playing for us. Oh yeah. I see that right now.”’

I've never seen Ibid. used in that was before.

Turns out that it does seem to be a proper use. Hmm. I might have to steal that from you for use in the future.

by In Walks Rudy on Aug 28, 2008 5:54 PM PDT reply actions   0 recs

I got a totally different take on the thing,

IMO Nate is so-so on Rudy, see:

‘Yeah, he’s cool.’ Like no big deal.

or

“Yeah, he’s alright,”

and most telling:

“He’s okay. Still has to work on going to his left.”

Are those the words of praise? We need to trade this guy NOW for Telfair or even better Ha. Ship him back to the orient where he plays so good and we can get back the Korean Dream to challenge Oden for the starting spot.

I think Quick is saying that Mac was playing possum- not wanting to talk glowingly about Rudy in front of his fellow Team USA coaches. Quick is clearly reporting that Nate is very excited about Rudy.

3 rookies = 3 Fearless additions

Coach Nate just said it, Rudy is fearless

We all know by now that J.B. “The Lionhearted” is destined to be fearless

Greg “Zues” Oden, yeah he might qualify as fearless too.

This combined with their shear raw talent just has never happened. It’s a new dawning for the NBA history books.

3 fearless rookies at the same time in one year? I am truly scared by this revelation and what it may mean.

Best player in Europe! Weeeeeeeeeee

But he’s not MJ… err yeah

He may still be Manu though and that’s pretty dang good!

Still unproven against NBA players though, and we all remember what happened with Euro stud Darko

His team won the mumble mumble tournament and he was the MVP!

But Marc freakin Gasol was still league MVP

He’s going to be leading the Spanish team!

But why isn’t he getting more minutes and there’s some pretty ho hum games in there

Holy crap, did you see that gold medal game? against the NBA’s best too!

But he fouled out in short minutes because he couldn’t defend the NBA players

That dunk was freakin SWEET!!!!

But Kobe gambled for the steal and Dwight was slow to rotate

Nate loves him!

Your FACE isn't a beer mug

Yeah, well, too bad I don’t care and you smell bad. Ok? Yeah, too bad.

I know ya don’t ask for a stein, ya ask for a bier, and they came in mugs often called steins and you could buy touristy crappy steins to bring back home. I was saying a stein = stein, which is a mug, or so I thought.

If those mugs aren’t called steins, or bier-steins, then I’m just mistaken.

It’s not my fault everyone in Germany speaks English. I lived there 8 months and learned nuthin’ except how to count. And that fresh nummy mozzarella is only 30 cents and incredibly delicious. Our cheap-mozzarella gap is almost as bad as our doner-kebab gap.

When I see/hear the word “stein” in relation to beer:

Found on a website such as this:

Is that not a bier-stein? Why is this website, and all of Germany, lying to us? Is WW3 coming?!

If Nate was any kind of a good coach

he would have fed the USA stars the wrong info on Rudy.

“Oh no Dwight, Rudy can’t dunk. Yeah, you should definitely always try to block his shot!”

“whats that Mamba? Nope, i heard Rudy can’t even shoot a three to save his life. Yeah you should definitely back off him.”

Who else scored 100+ points on the USA?

Wasn’t Coach Nate in charge of the defense?

Mac 10 loves Rudy - and so do I

And he envisions exactly what we have been discussing. Play him mostly on the second unit with Bayless and Outlaw, and some with Roy (in the fourth?) at PG or a little on SF. And yes, then Roy is on 3, not Rudy. Rudy is a SG who is constantly in motion, hustling for plays and moving great without the ball. Wohoo, Nate is great. And he can still make Rudy better.

Man, I took a lot of heat a while back for saying Rudy and Roy would play together

People started calling me names and typed rude stuff about my family. Where are they now?

He also guaranteed Fernandez and Roy will play together, most likely with Roy as point and Fernandez at shooting guard, but he also didn’t rule out Roy playing small forward alongside Fernandez at shooting guard.

Wow!!

Grrrrrrrrrrrreat Stuff. I’ve been waiting for this interview ever since the Gold Medal game. And now we have it. A strong veteran defensive point guard who also happens to be a coach just confirmed what we all thought.

If anybody thought that Fernandez could not play in the NBA, this should answer it. It reminds me of earlier comments by KP after Rudy signed. He started going off excitedly on Rudy, and then explained that “he didn’t want to put pressure on Rudy to be a starter "right away”. At the time, I had to chuckle a little because it was perfectly clear, at least to me, that right away meant not very long. Meaning, he actually believed Rudy could be a starter.

Now Mac’s doing something similar.

Now, would anyone explain to me what on earth anyone is doing acting like we need to trade for another guard?

Hoopsworld rates Oden and Bayless in the top 5 rookies this year, and Fernandez at six but more likely in the top 5.

I’m willing to bet this has never happened in the history of the NBA. Three rookies and three talents in one year. Any takers that can shoot this down?

by Eben Calder on Aug 29, 2008 7:09 AM PDT reply actions   0 recs

when was the last update on that ranking?

i remember something like that much earlier, i would think after playing against the cream de la crem of the world, and doing it well, the he might be rated a little higher then bayless at least.

ot, is anyone else excited that reports are that the face is playing team ball, and looking for the open man. I was so annoyed about all the talk about how he couldnt pass, when we all new that he has been instructed to play that was.

Surge-Idolaters Relieved

Nate has taken a lot of criticism from fans—me included!—about his playing time choices for fan favorites Joel and Surge. This goes back the last two seasons and probably beyond.

I think there are a number of people out there who feared that Rudy would fall into the same trap as Surge… and who really wants that sort of debate continue? I don’t relish the notion of reading fanposts about how Rudy should’ve been in the game every single time Martell misses a three pointer just like Surge-idolaters wanted Sergio in the game every time Jack made a (stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid, foot-out-of-bounds) turnover.

Everyone can rest easier now. I know many of us were worried about Rudy either being a bust and spoiling our hopes and dreams or—even worse—a season of second-guessing our coach while he languished for (seemingly) no apparent reason on the bench.

I love the fact that Nate is as excited about Rudy as some of the fanbase here at Blazers Edge. I can’t believe how happy I was reading that story. Just awesome. As a guy who suffered through his Surge-Mancrush over the last season, I had no desire to repeat.

Here’s hoping that Rudy’s as good as Nate thinks he is.

Maybe that's the key

Train him to alley-oop to Greg and Rudy, but have them (Greg and Rudy) hold their hands right over the basket. Every time Sergio hits a basket, reward him with a Scooby Snack™ or something. Sooner or later he’ll learn to shoot the ball on his own.

Now, how to handle the matador defense…

he could singlehandedly help Greg become the league leader in shot blocking. Or fouls. But lets hope for the first.

There is almost enough takeaway material for an own thread in there, some interesting contrasts to what was discussed before

Strengths:

  • Saw him six times, in five of them Rudy played as well as hoped
  • Efficient
  • A really good passer. He makes it sound as if that’s Rudy’s biggest strength
  • Pretty good scorer
  • Attack the basket
  • “He can kind of knife in between lanes that maybe a bigger player couldn’t get into”
  • Really unselfish
  • High basketball IQ, sees things on the floor develop
  • Confident / Fearless because he already played for years against better competition than your typical college player
  • “Defensively he more than held his own against some pretty good players”

Continue to work on:

  • Get stronger, gain some weight, but stay a slasher
  • Develop from a good shooter (50, 40, 90 percent) to a “knockdown perimeter shooter”, which also makes driving inside easier
  • Tends to stab and gamble a little too much on defense

Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

by Norsktroll on Aug 30, 2008 2:33 PM PDT up reply actions   2 recs

Yes I read this also

There have been some who ridiculed the idea that Rudy could start and play with Brandon. There have been some who claimed Rudy would never see playing time because he cannot defend. There have been some who wanted to trade Rudy’s draft rights to get a different player. There have been some who are never satisfied with KP’s decision making. Then there are BE’ers who listened to KP say Rudy would start; who followed his box scores and believed he could play in NBA right away. He still has not played a game in the NBA but the tide surely seems to be shifting to the latter away from the former. Good on them.

You know we might be a little better this year.
