NBA live 09 Portland Trailblazers rating predictions
I've been waiting for the new player ratings to come out and it seems to be taking a long time for them to be revealed, so while I wait I decided to do some predictions on the ratings myself. Now I'm a little lazy so I'm just going to list starting five but feel free to include the whole team in your predictions if you wish.
Greg Oden 75
Did not play last season so I expect his rating to stay the same.
Lamarcus Aldridge 80
He was way under rated last year to the point the computer put Channing Frye in his starting spot so I hope that the people at EA get it right this year.
Martel Webster 72
He did improve a bit last season and I think he will get passed the 60's.
Brandon Roy 91
Big jump for Roy this year. I think with him being an all star he will finally get the video game respect he deserves.
Steve Blake 70
Same stuff with Blake this year unless they decide to put Bayless in the starting spot because of his summer league performance.
Overall I expect to see our team somewhere in the 80's, probably 83, so pretty nice improvement from last year. Alright Video game fans now it's your turn so let hear what you got for this years virtual blazer team.

Add your predictions for 2k9
I just have always played live and i’m used to it, but if 2k8 is your game of choice then go right ahead. They still have pretty similar rating structures don’t they?
"The next day in practice, if you sweat, it's going to come out of your pores, regardless. If you ask any coach around the league how many times they have smelled liquor on a player . . . As long as that player is showing up on time, doing the drills and running, that's part of it. But there have been times, yeah. Yeah, you probably smelled liquor on me. But it's not like I'm at practice drunk. I'm totally focused."

Above seems for 2k9
I’ll go –
Roy: 86
Oden: 80
LMA: 84
Blake: 74
Webster: 76
Outlaw: 79
Rudy: 77
Bayless: 76
The thing with 2k9, is that they attempt in some way to improve the rating system each year (in my opinion), with new but relevant categories. So it’s difficult to guess what the makers are thinking. I think this year they had off-the-dribble shooting and spot-up-shooting among others. Also, the potential rating from 2k8 was a plus, because Oden sure improved in a hurry.
The last Live I played was Live 2004, so I have no idea. The game I dislike is NBA 08, or 07, the one that relies on the shooting meter system. I dropped 70 with Wade in four two-minute quarters, including a few floaters from downtown. What a joke.
Kwame and Darko - Grizz '07-'08. The rebuilding is complete.

Not bad
It really changes the dynamic of the ranking system now that the production company can update rosters and change ratings of each version of the game. Now, that said, as I recall EA did a terrible job of keeping up with the way teams changed, the Blazers in particular. Roy’s rating did not appear to go up significantly at all last season, even after the all star break.
That said, I:
-Agree with you about Oden staying the same. And, with reference to above, when it becomes clear that he truly is a beast, he will be rewarded.
- I think 80 is spot on for LMA.
- 72 is about right for Martell. Although, interestingly, I predict that Outlaw will be more like a 75-78 coming off the bench. (and it might do that stupid reorder thing you mentioned with frye/LMA).
- Roy deserves a 91 no doubt, but I think he will be underrated (yet again) and more like an 89.
- Blake a 70 is fine.
Word.
"Jerryd is straight ahead at you. Rudy dips around. Jerryd is a rock. Rudy is the wind. Jerryd loves the ball in his hands. Rudy moves without it. Jerryd defends by getting up in your grill. Rudy plays the spaces in between. Jerryd has focused vision. Rudy sees all around him. Jerryd likes to score off of the dribble. Rudy can catch and shoot. Jerryd is aggressive. Rudy is sneaky. Jerryd will hit you hard. Rudy will annoy you until you hit him." -Dave

People are always confusing LaMarcus and Channing
Asked his specialty in the kitchen, Oden paused and said, "Hamburger Helper and tuna fish."

Remember how EA
made Frye’s jersey number 45?
But anyway…. I usually upped the Big Threes’ player ratings just a bit…. =D
This made the game more “realistic.”

Here are my preds:
Roy: 86
Oden: 79
LMA: 81
Martell: 73
Blake: 69
They will always underestimate how good Roy is because he’s not a really flashy player. Plus, he doesn’t play on a “big market” team. These seem reasonable.

Roy was an all-star though
and that usually gets some extra points in the games

It is possible though
he might not be over rated,… maybe even over rated, as high as 95…maybe not, but they had a whole thing that roy was the person in the new features that showed, i think play calling, and ankle breakers. There is really no way to know what the ratings will be, in 08 it seemed like they just picked random numbers and called it good.

As a PC-gamer...
I really hope 2K Sports releases NBA 2K9 on the PC platform since NBA Live 09 was blacklisted for the PC as a counter attack on piracy. Don’t they know console gamers pirate their games too? Not a big loss IMO. NBA LIVE 08 wasn’t worth the 1’s and 0’s it was written in, so I wouldn’t expect 09 to be much better anyway.

A few random experiences I made last year with NBA Live 08
- Oden was pretty underrated, and I guess that will carry over initially
- In some games LMA was useless, in others he was a stud. Don’t know why.
- Webster was usually my most dangerous offensive weapon, cause he had sweet three point spots that would also make defenders jump on any fake.
- I had trouble getting anything close to Roy’s true numbers, even though I adjusted the game pace, time (10 minutes), difficulty and such pretty accurate. He just is not the big scorer in the game. But I did run tests with him at PG extensively ;-)
- The lack of a true training mode e.g. for one on one tests as compared to earlier versions blew, but afaik that will be changed
- I have to admit that I led a tricked-out Phoenix Suns roster to the championship before the Blazers. Yes, I feel bad about it cause I don’t even like the team that much in real life. Funny thing was, the computer correctly send me the Celtics as the opponent, only they had made a trade of KG for Duncan in the season…
- Getting the AI to accept trades was much harder in 08 than in previous versions, but at times still possible (e.g. I was able to land Prince for my Blazers). That didn’t stop the AI to make stupid trades by itself, e.g. LeBron constantly ending up on a depleted New Orleans roster.
Prediction: Marv Albert & Co. will mutilate Rudy’s name, and he will be initially a bust in the game cause traditionally they freeze development somewhen in early August which was before the Olympics.
P.S.: I also played 2k8, any while I understand it’s advantages I’m traditionally also more of a Live guy. I just like the graphics, crossover moves, etc. If nothing dramatic changes, Live 09 is it now that they also offer updated rosters / ratings which was one of my pet peeves.
Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

Thanks
I exploded into laughter when I saw it and it still gets me every time I look at my profile. She looks like Mr. Burns from the simpsons.

Ok...here is a weird one
in the PS2 version of Live08….Josh McRoberts came out with a rating of 89. Bumped LMA and Frye if you let it. PS3 version no problem

Same Deal With the PSP
On the PSP McRoberts is some huge number like 89 (and he’s got a “Go-To Move,”) which bumped everyone all around.
And Oden got 79, which makes the PSP version the best, in my opinion.

I'll have to try the PSP version then
