OT- Court Rivals - 2008.08.25

First is the link to the last post to catch any smack you might have missed that has links to other past posts:

http://www.blazersedge.com/2008/8/21/598320/ot-court-rivals-2008-08-21

Next up the other important links:

Google Player Attribute spreadsheet

Google League Standing Spreadsheet

The Main Juice of the post:

Court Rivals, where BE teams beat up other BE teams.  Currently teams are looking for new players, and currently JB is looking for other teams to talk smack too as they've gone off on a large series of wins.

Look for the smack talk to continue if they beat a team with 300 attribute points higher than them tonight.

If you're looking to join, simply post here and teams will be more than happy to take you on.

Playoffs:

I suggest we get our position placement this year, and 15 games into next year we start our play-offs.  This lets us build up the attributes and works around the one challenge rule.  Bring it BE teams!

Also... i changed the ranking system to be BE wins, and then attribute points, and then record against tied teams.

Games still waiting to be played for play off rankings:

  • BlazersEdgers: B-Edge Odenizers, Blazing the Edge
  • BEdgers:  Blazing the Edge
  • Bedgers2:  DONE!!!
  • Red Unit: DONE!!!
  • Just Blaze:  DONE!!!
  • B-Edge Odenizers:  BlazersEdgers  BEdgers
  • vERYkERRPLEX:   DONE!!!
  • Blazing the EDge:  BEdgers,  BlazersEdgers

Current Standings (need spreadsheet updated):

  1. Bedgers—————————I (6-0) I (6325) | (21-11)
  2. Bedgers2————————-I (5-2) I (6600) | (21-12)
  3. Just Blaze————————-I (5-2) I (5972) | (24-8)
  4. vERRYkERRPLEX————- I (5-2) I (5882) | (23-9)
  5. Bedge Odenizers—————I (2-3) I (4096) | (19-11)
  6.  Blazers Edgers—————--I (1-4) I (5857) | (12-20)
  7. Red Unit—————————I (1-6) I (5519) | (22-10)
  8. Blazing the Edge—————-I (0-5) I (3755) | (9-17)

Top Five Trained Player recognition award for duration of this post (meaning I won't be updating until the next post):

  1. 729 -- Jay Acer --------------- Red Unit
  2. 723 -- High Flyer ------------ Bedgers2
  3. 702 -- Point Guard ---------- Bedgers2
  4. 701 -- Jerryd Oden ---------- Bedgers2
  5. 700 -- LaMarcus Royden -- Bedgers2

Congrats on your excellence in training.

Note:  If there are issues with the spreadsheet, feel free to volunteer to update and I'll catch you on the next court rivals post.

TEAMS NEEDING PLAYERS:

Currently no team is clambering for players, but if you're interested, post your name in this thread and I'm sure a team will find you.  Hard workers are the most appreciated.  After all, a new season of Court Rivals is beginning and there is some dead weight on a few of the teams that may be removed by next season if a hungry rookie is ready to come in and play.

Finally the disclaimer:

We're attempting to keep this to the minimal posts and only renew posting when the thread drops.  We know this doesn't interest everyone, so if you're one of them, in the words of officer Barbrady  "move along folks, nothing to see here".

Play-offs:

My thought is that teams are responsible for keeping their challenge windows open. If teams don’t accept the challenge within 2 days, then it’s a forfeit (for play-offs).

I also think that teams should forfeit that have closed up their challenge windows with accepted challenges, if they don’t play within 5 days (days 15-19 for first round, days 20-24 second round and days 25-30 for third round). A print screen of the challenge window would work as proof.

Any issues or thoughts on that? The point is to avoid inactive teams or teams that aren’t cooperating with the play-off layout from holding up the entire process.

Start debate/conversation… now!

before we set up the playoffs for next season

we should wait to see which teams come back with a full roster. I am willing to bet that a few players from each team will not be back, in which case we may need to consolidate our players on fewer teams.

by usmcr3049 on Aug 25, 2008 8:07 PM PDT up reply actions

Agreed.

Maybe we should have a draft? That would be cool.

Teams with the most people coming back go by their ranking then they get first pick. Could be complicated though, but if everyone did it, it would definitely be fun.

Poll needed?

I’m still of the mind that the playoff idea is too squirrelly to work. The team consolidation issue next season will really mess with it. Not to mention having the problem of keeping the challenge queue free in the middle of the season. I’d prefer just sticking to the round robin each season and having someone with the best league record winning the Blazer’s Edge trophy.

Perhaps a poll to go with the next thread between the two ideas? See which has the most support?

we play Blazing the Edge tonight

and if we lose … well that would just suck a lot.

What are the tiebreaker scenarios for second place, assuming we go 5-2 and there’s a three-way tie?

by kickbrass on Aug 25, 2008 9:34 AM PDT reply actions

Correct

That seemed much more fair than rankings… reward the teams that have been together the longest and/or trained the hardest.

That being tied, well… we can always go with who beat who!

3-way tie

if one of the teams has beat both the others, they get the top seed of the three. Then the winner of the head to head among the remaining two teams gets the next seed.

If all 3 teams are 1-1 against the other two, then I think we said the next tie breaker was total training points.

Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

by douglast on Aug 25, 2008 12:48 PM PDT up reply actions

That seems fair

Honestly… either way Bedgers2 should get that second spot, assuming they play that final team.

If we go this route

Than the order would be
2. vERRYkERRPLEX
3. Bedgers2
4. Just Blaze

If we did training points than it would be
2. Bedgers2
3. Just Blaze
4. vERRYkERRPLEX

Personally to me I think it is more fair to base the tie breaker on games played, so vERRYkERRPLEX should get the 2nd seed.

by usmcr3049 on Aug 26, 2008 11:26 AM PDT up reply actions

I'm not sure where you're coming from.

Points are a definite indicator of how strong the team is, and the ranking is supposed to indicate strongest to weakest teams.

Games played has no relevance in the Blazers Edge tournament as we will have all played each other and that’s really not fair to teams just coming into it if they’ve been training hard all season. that’s a punishment.

Actually… if VK has less training points and started BEFORE JB, I think that shows that JB has been working hard as a team to be a winner and they deserve the spot. I prefer to base rankings on what the team can control as opposed to something arbitrary like the sky is blue today.

Open to debate, but that’s my pretty firm stance.

upon looking closer...

VK and JB have played the same number of games with JB having a better total season record in CR play.

No matter how you look at it

Also… JB beat VK, VK beat BEdgers2, BEdgers2 beat JB.

Possible Playoff Snag

There is a decent (likely even) chance that as a group, we could lose somewhere between 10-30 players when season 3 ends and season 4 begins. This could be due to school being back in sessions, football/basketball gettting rolling, or other reasons. This could put a real snag in the playoff plans.

I think we should try and determine (perhaps being run by someone from each team on a thread in each team’s CR forum) how many people are planning on continuing in season 4. Our best course of action will likely be to consolidate from 8 teams to 4 or 5 or 6, rather than have a bunch of open spots or new players clogging up all the teams.

I’d suggest once we figure out how many total players we have, and thus how many full teams we can support (this is X), we take the X number of teams who have the most intact rosters, and then have those captains do an expansion draft among the remaining BE players.

Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

that could hurt us. Only the best of the best would stay… too bad there aren’t chemistries from PREVIOUS years…

Why??

Why are these continually recommended like Junk Drawers? I never click on them, so it’s really no bother, but I don’t get it either. Is this some parasitical use of BEdge for Court Rivals communication or actual Blazers information? Somewhere in between?

Seriously, I’m not mad or anything, I’m just curious.

Thanks.

to quote the finely well spoken mr. douglast,

1) This is a community-building engagement. Somewhere between 60 and 80 active Blazers Edge Posters are participating in a friendly rivalry on court rivals. This helps strengthen the BE community in my opionion

2) Having 1 rec’d fanpost that stays in the rec’d section for several days at a time results in far far far fewer postings that we would have if it weren’t recced. Given the volume of postings that stream through this site, we would have 2-3 Court Rivals threads posted per day, as opposed to the 1 post every 3 or 4 days that we have now.

3) It’s one post, it’s marked OT and given a descriptive name. Certainly more than can be said for about 25% of the fanposts posted daily on BE. Ignore it if you aren’t interested.

by kickbrass on Aug 26, 2008 6:36 AM PDT reply actions

yeah, but...

Since there are only 5 rec spots… us Court Rivals gang could also type “court rivals” in the search page and easily locate the most recent updates….

Almost ...

All the BE teams won tonight except VK. Their loss was a close one, and on paper they should have won. What happened guys??

I love looking at the players’ names, especially when they are “real”. Tomorrow JB plays a team that includes Larry Bird, Joey Graham, and Chris Paul. Interesting lineup :-)

BEdgers2 are now apparently The Honky Playboys in Pro D
BEdgers are in College B
Just Blaze are in College C
vERRYkERRPLEX are in College D
BlazersEdgers are in College D

The Honky Playboys making it the the playoffs? Seems like a good chance.
