Olympic Basketball OT (poll)

The international teams are fighting a close race to see who has the ugliest frontcourt. The frontrunners are Argentina with the ugly twins, and Spain with the Gasol brothers. I think Marc Gasol may even play the part of the Geico caveman on TV. Is it enough to overtake the Argentinians who can't afford haircuts?

Just so this post isn't entirely useless, I have to point out how Scola is outworking team USA in the first half in the paint.

Team USA looking ok

Not great, certainly, but ok. They lead a Manu-less (first quarter injury) Argentina squad by 15 with about 5 minutes left.

USA-Spain rematch for the gold

I think the USA will win, but I expect a much closer game this time.

Wade has that amazing move

where he fakes like he is going to come across to the middle of the lane, but then sidesteps the defender and lays it in from the left side.

Wow, oh wow

What a move. I can’t even do that in my dreams.

Can we get Wade with our cap space?

Let’s see. Bayless, Wade, Roy, and Rudy in a four guard lineup anchored by Oden.

Nope, won’t work. Too bad.

100% disagree

Wade in particular has been scintillating in this tournament.

When Wade is healthy

he is always spectacular and he is an allstar in the NBA so I expect that. I am just not impressed. We get it, that “team” is good.

the USA's Team Defense

has also been amazing. I have no problem with Blazer fans rooting for Rudy/Spain but I think you have to give credit to Coach K and the team for playing so hard and so well.

Here’s to a good gold medal game.

Yeah, it really has been

I was seriously skeptical, but man… they’ve won me over, going to events, being visible and likable, playing defense—I think redeem team is a proper name for them.

I agree

A little too much standing around on offense sometimes, but the defense has been excellent. These guys are playing defense like they really want to win.

It’s an all-star team playing defense as if they are in the NBA Finals.

The one weak spot today, really, was interior defense. When Howard was out, they just got muscled around too much. They could use a healthy Greg Oden in four years.

I don’t think that will be so much a problem against Spain, though. They match up better against Spain’s big men than they do against Argentina’s.

And yes, both Spain and Argentina have some really ugly players. I’ve got to give it to Scola, though, any team that has him has to be tops in any all-ugly competition. Of course, I think his game is ugly, too, which makes it worse. Effective, but ugly.

Nice, we will as much Rudy vs. NBA as possible in this tournament

He looked pretty good again in the fourth today. Maybe that is also one of his strengths, clutch performance.

Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."

I hope Rudy doesn't have a skull fracture

from that “Head Butt”. There is always that Advil Tape to hold him together.
