Over the line!

"I'm sorry Smokey, that was over the line."

Ahem.

I’m posting under a pseudonym here.  I don’t want this associated with my normal login because it’s a little too from-the-heart and lacks its usual protective layer of…. whatever it is the layer is made of.  Plus, and this is a big one, I don't know how I’ll feel about having posted this once this buzz wears off.

This is not meant to offend anyone.

So let’s say you’re sitting at home so listless and uninspired that laying on your back staring at a featureless ceiling is the best you can manage at the moment.  So hey, why not check up on the BE.  After all, there’s probably something new to read.

If you’re lucky it’s something unusually smart, insightful, or funny.

If you’re really, really lucky, maybe somebody says something mean-spirited, is clearly in the wrong and you can take what you hope are clever shots at them as long as you stay within site rules.  You’re just Karma’s instrument right?  Right!

If you’re unlucky, someone has been playing with the trade machine instead of sleeping and has, in wide-eyed earnestness written 2000 words pitching a swap that you couldn’t get by Isaiah Thomas on his worst day.

The thing is, when you pull up BE, you find you’re not even unlucky.  You poke around for some news, some event, something that’ll spark some interest, but the topics are variations on already-covered themes.  The scarcity of real Blazers news has the truly hardcore Bedgers pulling truly mundane bits and pieces from the internet.  It’s like Ireland before the potato.

We’re posting about other team’s uniforms (?), commentators (COMMENTATORS!), and Sean Kemp’s latest tragicomedy.

I’m not saying I’m above it, on the contrary I participate, and enjoy it.  There are some characters on this site who constantly impress me with their great humor, writing ability, and knowledge.  But more and more of late, I’ve begun to reflect on how much time, not regular-season time, but OFF-season time, I’m spending with friend’s I’ve never met discussing basketball events which aren’t happening (and might never).

I have hobbies I’ve let go idle.  I have a to-do list that for all intensive purposes matches one I made 3 months ago. I have a few weeks more of sunshine to play basketball in before the summer is over.  I have goals I need to keep plugging away at to get to where I want to be in life.

While I love it here, I’m starting to feel like a house-guest who’s stayed a bit too long.  It’s a beautiful house Dave and Ben (totally just made you sound like domestic partners).  I appreciate the work you put into it and the care you take to make all of us feel welcome.  While it’s great to visit your friend’s house, it’s not good to live in your friend’s house.  I like you guys, but I’ve been living here, and we need a break from each other.  So I’ll be seeing you when the pre-season starts.

Take care

Well the off-season is rough

But this weekend Barrett said on courtside that Bayless will be here to start playing pick-up ball with Oden, Channing, Blake, Hill and others. It’s coming. Soon, It’ll be so busy here that it might get overwhelming.
Info is kind of slow right now, but if you need to take a break, so be it. Now is the time to get house projects done.

It's okay Tom, we'll limp along without you until October

Time to grab your surfboard and hit those rollers pounding the North Shore.

Asked his specialty in the kitchen, Oden paused and said, "Hamburger Helper and tuna fish."

Everyone needs to take some down time now and again.

I haven’t been around myself as much as previously. Mostly, it’s because it has been a slow summer for Blazer news. I’d like to blame a move to Wisconsin and my internship starting up, but even during finals week with kids to take care of, I still managed to spend too much time here.

Remember, everything in moderation, especially moderation itself.

Hmm, this echos many feelings I've been having.

I posted about needing a BEdge detox until October but, darnit, there is just nothing better to do at work when there is no work.

I always have these same feelings

and then I wonder what TiH said and it keeps me coming back. Also, what if I miss a really good post? This is why I am addicted.

It's the game withdrawals that you're having...

and it’s brutal right now.

But check it, NO news is GOOD news, right? I mean, you remember (CAUTION: EXTREMELY PAINFUL MEMORIES MAY SURFACE BY CLICKING ON THE FOLLOWING LINKS. OPEN AT YOUR OWN RISK!) where we were a year ago?

I'm not gonna click on your link

I’m assuming it’s a recap of that one game against the Clippers that we didn’t have Brandon Roy for, and we won. It was the worst victory I had ever seen. NO ONE wanted to win that game. It was in LA and I almost went to it but couldn’t and I watched the game on DVR (if I remember correctly). It ws the best non-use of my money ever.

Worst game in history of games. Since we were actually trying to win, it makes us look worse than the Clippers, who had a strong preference towards losing that game.

The memories of that game are indeed painful.

Haha, my PLEASE NO MICRO comment?

Yeah, Micro scared the crap out of me. Seems to have worked ok for Oden, though. I was favoring just having the poor kid be in pain his entire career over risking it with micro, but his injury was so small and the procedure advanced enough to not be as much of a worry (I hope).

Micro equaled the chance of career death to me, at that time.

I think my comment is funny. I was speakin’ out of hope more than actual “feeling”. NOT ODEN, ANYONE BUT ODEN. Oh well… I truly do think it’ll work out for the best.

But I’m a glass is overflowing type of guy.

I just watched the Big Leboowski last night!!!!

I found it at the store for $9.99 and I couldn’t resist. Someone stole my copy out of the box at a party a few years back along with a bunch of x-box games.

Oh, and I love BEdge.

The Dude abides . . .

           DUDE
Yeah man. Well, you know, the Dude
                         abides.

Gazing after him, The Stranger drawls, savoring the words:

                                     THE STRANGER
                         The Dude abides.

He gives his head a shake of appreciation, then looks into
               the camera.

                                     THE STRANGER
I don’t know about you, but I take
comfort in that. It’s good knowin’
he’s out there, the Dude, takin’ her
easy for all us sinners. Shoosh. I
sure hope he makes The finals. Welp,
that about does her, wraps her all
up. Things seem to’ve worked out
pretty good for the Dude’n Walter,
and it was a purt good story, dontcha
think? Made me laugh to beat the
                         band. Parts, anyway. Course—I
didn’t like seein’ Donny go. But
then, happen to know that there’s a
little Lebowski on the way. I guess
that’s the way the whole durned human
                         comedy keeps perpetuatin’ it-self,
                         down through the generations, westward
the wagons, across the sands a time
until— aw, look at me, I’m ramblin’
again. Wal, uh hope you folks enjoyed
                         yourselves.

He brushes his hat brim with a fingertip as we begin to pull
               back.

                                     THE STRANGER
Catch ya further on down the trail.

It ain't me

I’m watching recorded Spain vs Lithuania and they just played this song at half time. The eyebrow thing in the video cracks me up every time.

I’m taking a Bedge-cation because it is the off-season and I was letting myself get PO’ed over criticism of the players and coaches. I was doing it too, and only hanging out in the junk drawer, so I stopped reading the comments.

My wife wants to look at this house. I guess we won’t move there now, because I just made it way to easy for Timbo to stalk me.

I’ll camp on your doorstep if you move there.

Take 'er easy dude.

I took a long hiatus from the end of the season until the draft. I have other things I should be doing too, and I can certainly understand what you’re going through. I mean, I’m living in Japan, you think I could spend this time doing something, you know, like learning Japanese. Such an undertaking would really perpetuate itself. Anyway, have fun back in the real world. We’ll be here whenever you realize it’s so much more fun right here.
