OT - Court Rivals - 2008.08.21
First is the link to the last post to catch any smack you might have missed that has links to other past posts:

Next up the other important links:
Google Player Attribute spreadsheet
Google League Standing Spreadsheet
The Main Juice of the post:
Court Rivals, where BE teams beat up other BE teams. Currently teams are looking for new players, and currently JB is looking for other teams to talk smack too as they've gone off on a large series of wins.
Look for the smack talk to continue if they beat a team with 300 attribute points higher than them tonight.
If you're looking to join, simply post here and teams will be more than happy to take you on.
Playoffs:
I suggest we get our position placement this year, and 15 games into next year we start our play-offs. This lets us build up the attributes and works around the one challenge rule. Bring it BE teams!
Also... i changed the ranking system to be BE wins, and then attribute points, and then record against tied teams.
Games still waiting to be played for play off rankings:
- BlazersEdgers: B-Edge Odenizers, Blazing the Edge
- BEdgers: Blazing the Edge
- Bedgers2: Blazing the Edge
- Red Unit: DONE!!!
- Just Blaze: DONE!!!
- B-Edge Odenizers: BlazersEdgers BEdgers
- vERYkERRPLEX: DONE!!!
- Blazing the EDge: BEdgers, Bedgers2, BlazersEdgers
Current Standings (need spreadsheet updated):

Top Five Trained Player recognition award for duration of this post (meaning I won't be updating until the next post):

- 723 -- High Flyer ------------ Bedgers2
- 702 -- Point Guard ---------- Bedgers2
- 701 -- Jerryd Oden ---------- Bedgers2
- 700 -- LaMarcus Royden -- Bedgers2
Congrats on your excellence in training.
Note: If there are issues with the spreadsheet, feel free to volunteer to update and I'll catch you on the next court rivals post.
TEAMS NEEDING PLAYERS:
Currently no team is clambering for players, but if you're interested, post your name in this thread and I'm sure a team will find you. Hard workers are the most appreciated. After all, a new season of Court Rivals is beginning and there is some dead weight on a few of the teams that may be removed by next season if a hungry rookie is ready to come in and play.
Finally the disclaimer:
We're attempting to keep this to the minimal posts and only renew posting when the thread drops. We know this doesn't interest everyone, so if you're one of them, in the words of officer Barbrady "move along folks, nothing to see here".

Just to clear up something from the last thread.
Those who started a few days before the end of season 2 did not get any additional stat points because of it. Infact they started out with the exact same stats as they would have had, if they created and started their character on day 1 of season 3. Here are the stat rollback rules.
"Attribute Rollback
Each season, players lose a percentage of their attributes from the prior season (call it offseason rust). The percentage that players will retain is based on how many full seasons they participated in. The formula is such:
Base Stat + Ending Stat * (.25 + (.05 * (Number of Seasons Played – 1))) + Awards and Bonuses earned from all seasons
Again, the “Ending Stat” in the middle is rounded DOWN once all calculations are performed.
EXAMPLE:
Ham Burglar – 5’11" G
Speed Base = 24
Ended Season 2 at 120 Speed = 120 * (.25 + (.05 * (2 Seasons Played – 1))) = 120 * .3 = 36
Season 2 Playoffs MVP = +1 Speed
This formula applies to all stats BUT Endurance. ENDURANCE IS RESET TO 10 AT THE START OF EVERY NEW SEASON!
Therefore, Ham Burglar would start Season 3 with 24 + 36 + 1 = 61 Speed. His training time would be normal as if he had already trained to 61 speed (around 2 hours per point or so), but he gains all those training credits to spend elsewhere."
So since none of these players have played in a full season, their rollback would look like this:
Ham Burglar – 5’11" G
Speed Base = 24
Ended Season 2 at 44 Speed = 44 * (.25 + (.05 * (0 Seasons Played – 1))) = 44* .2 = 8(rounded down)
That is assuming 2 days trained prior to the end of the season, and that the player spend 2 full days training all 10 TC’s in the one stat. So if all players on the team started an avg of 2 days before the end of season 2, that would be at most 80 additional points on the team. A head start sure, but not game breaking.
Number of Seasons Played = 1
Full season is probably worded incorrectly. It is really any part of a season. Red Unit is a perfect example of this. Several players joined late on the 22nd. Several others joined just after 12:00 AM on the 23rd. The players who joined on the 22nd were at about 270-280 points when the players joined on the 23rd. Obviously, the maximum amount they could have trained in their first day is 10 points. The rest of the difference was because of the rollback bonus.
There are tons of threads in the General forum on Courtrivals.com talking about players adding secondary players immediately before the rollback to get the bonus.
can you link one of these posts?
I have gone through 11 pages so far and can’t find anything about it. If that is true, than the posted rules are wrong, or there my just be a bug in the system.
Here's one
They are referring to an older post, which isn’t linked and I didn’t look up without clues from that post, but you can get the idea of what they are talking about. Basically people are bitching about the bonus and other people explain it. But you can see examples of 40 point bonuses in there from players who haven’t trained.
A note on the odenizers
We lost a couple players for some reason, and added players to take their places. So, I think the only inactive player on our current roster is steve hiatt. I’m thinking that levitakis is training VERY SLOWLY! The other players are new ones created by existing team members I think.

I’m at 662 points right now

Finish up this season
Next season after 15 games we start play-offs.
This will actually even the field a little and let teams rebuild. Should make it close and exciting.

50 plus points
and we still didn’t win… and SOMEHOW I got 0 assists. WTF.

Ya, that was weird.
Claire, the shooting guard, goes for 51.
Ratbastird, the pointguard, goes for 0 assists. Strange simulation. RB got a bunch more assists this game, but I scored less. More importantly, we won.
Claire Redfield dunk shot: missed
Claire Redfield Off Rebound (5 REB)
Claire Redfield jump hook shot: made (26 PTS)
He may be the Vanilla Gorilla
But Marcus Lucas is Joel Przybilla in person. Er, computerized. Averaging 13.9 RB per game (including 2 ea. of 26 and 27) , but only 5.5 points. He seldom takes shots and misses most of those. I’d really hoped he’d be more of a scorer but it’s not working out that way. He’s Joel all over.

You play as a starter. My secret is to play on the bench.

Well then
maybe I’ll just have to move you to the first unit!

I have 2 Team Chemistry level stats
So there might be something interesting we can do for chemistries.
Claire Redfield dunk shot: missed

That's it you pushed me too far
To the starting lineup with you! No new chems but it will be a good experiment.

I’ll see how well I score against starters. I’m guessing 60. just saying.

BE player ranking
Since we can’t see individual player rankings except our own I’m curious about where BE players are ranked.
Is there anyone in the top 10% (which at this moment would be a ranking of 913 or better)? I’m sure we have some in the top 1000.
"It’s Dave’s house and we’ve been invited over to play. We play by the house rules or get sent home. Period." - me, 08/16
several no doubt
right now I’m #519. 4-5 days ago I was up to like #488 or something, but I’ve been training really long time stuff since then, so I’ve dropped a bit. I’m only 4th on my team, so there is at least a few more higher than me.
Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.
pretty sure anyone with 620 plus will be in top 1000
i’m at 832 with 630……..
…. and i do believe that I still am the only one to pipe a triple double for the season??

i'm about 1400 or something
I’m pretty sure my stats reflect that, but out of 6000 some odd people and a late start, I suppose that’s cool.

Standings
we are actually 5 and 2 vs . the league…..even taking down BEdgers2 at one point….. however, got rolled hard in the 2 losses to JB and BE1
We’re a little off vs. the college teams as of late however. Lost to another one tonight

It should be in a few days
But don’t look past us . . . Our BE league record doesn’t reflect how good our team is. If we can get our chemistries sorted out in time after losing a player, we won’t be an easy win :)
Things happen for a reason they say, but I say there's a reason things happen.
I asked this before in a junk drawer and never got an answer
But why does one of these things constantly have to be in the rec’ed fanposts? Isn’t there a message board on the site? Or at least can’t you all agree to just expand your message boards to 50 comments (upper right side of the page under ‘edit settings’) thus leaving these posts up just as long as in the rec’ed part? I’m not trying to stir an argument, but there are only 5 rec’ed posts at one time. With the junk drawer (which was created to eliminate the excessive posting) and this, that knocks it down to 3.
we rec this one
to give us one post that is very visable to everyone, this is an effort to cut down on multiple fan posts about the CR league because people didn’t see the main post. I personally don’t see anything wrong with it, as most of the time once we start a new one the old one is unrecc’d first and falls out of the top 50.
To answer your question, no CR does not have a message board for the purpose we are seeking. there are general forums, and forums for each team that only those on that team can access. But the general board is a ses-pool of poster children for internet tuff guys or worse.
for now
3 is plenty in the rec’ed fanpost section. we’ll see if it gets clogged once the season starts but it’s not like there’s tons of amazingly insightful posting that this is squeezing out.
And as usmcr points out, there really isn’t a place for this in the Court Rivals forums where inter-BEdge banter about court rivals can take place without losers coming in and messing stuff up.
That's why I was asking
I don’t see it as a ‘problem’ as usmcr implied. I am a little concerned that once the season starts and people have something real to talk about it could squeeze out some of the better fan posts. But I’m not the site adminstrator. Honestly, I read this site enough that I’m really not that concerned with it either. I’m just thinking in the interest of new and infrequent readers. Since people are seem so religious about reading this particular post that if you posted something about expanding people’s side bar to 50 until we get to the preseason (which should be plenty of time to get everyone on board), in which case they you can keep these posts around just as long as in the rec’ed part, you could work on it before it had the chance of becoming a problem. I’m not trying to stir an argument or say that what you are doing is wrong. I can appreciate the fact that you can’t use that site for messages and are trying to cut down on the posts on this site. I also understand the fact that a lot of people read these, comment in these, and they cut down on space. Again, I’m not trying to stir an argument or “complain about” what you are doing. I simply wanted to 1. Find out why it was so important to keep it up and 2. See if I could lend a hand in a better way to go about it. Obviously, with multiple people asking about it I’m not the only one who has these kind of concerns.
I think that when the season starts
We’re all going to be 100% blazer oriented… no worries there.

didn't mean to sound mean
that just summed up my thoughts exactly whenever your complaint has been raised.
No, not at all. Don't worry about it.
And since the rec’ed fan posts are moving slow as molasses and someone unrec’ed it and dropped it down, maybe because of me, I’ll bump it back up.
Agreed
I think once the season starts we might need to vanish for a bit, but we’ll have gotten our play-offs in and then we can reappear when the summer lull kicks in.
Right now the level of articles are such that i’m not even reading them. It’s old news, rehashed twenty billion times with very few new items.

As I stated the last time this was complained about
1) This is a community-building engagement. Somewhere between 60 and 80 active Blazers Edge Posters are participating in a friendly rivalry on court rivals. This helps strengthen the BE community in my opionion
2) Having 1 rec’d fanpost that stays in the rec’d section for several days at a time results in far far far fewer postings that we would have if it weren’t recced. Given the volume of postings that stream through this site, we would have 2-3 Court Rivals threads posted per day, as opposed to the 1 post every 3 or 4 days that we have now.
3) It’s one post, it’s marked OT and given a descriptive name. Certainly more than can be said for about 25% of the fanposts posted daily on BE. Ignore it if you aren’t interested.

It would be a good idea to have a standard answer
But maybe lighten it up a little. I wasn’t trying to attack what you are doing, but I feel like I was given the old “If you don’t like it then go home.”
agreed
it wasn’t intended to be “cold” but reading it back, my post certainly can sound that way.
Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.
I think he clarified his concern
and that’s that when quality posts are up and being bumped because of the amount of information coming through, then it’s not completely cool.
I actually agree. I certainly don’t plan on posting once the blazer season has started. Heck, with school and new blazer information coming in, I don’t know how easily i’ll be able to keep up my CR point additions!!!

Just Blaze
Has again laid waste to a college team with more training points!!!
The only team able to beat JB had 380 points and it was close until a bit into the fourth with both teams trading the lead back and forth.
Fear the JB BEdgers2. We’re coming for you.

too bad we already smacked you down earlier this season. I don’t think we’ll see you in any divisional matchups anytime soon. Next season, maybe.
definitely will be next season
ah well.
JB is hoping to make the CR play-offs this year. We’ll see how that goes.
