A (hypothetical) drawer full of junk (thoughts)

It is late, I have a cold I cant shake, and there is no junk drawer up yet.

I will get the junk rolling with some absolutely putrid garbage

I watched the movie clay pigeons with my girlfriend tonight. I think it is a very underrated film with an excellent performance by Vince Vaughn. Earlier in the afternoon we finished watching Fire in the Sky. That movie scared the junk out of me when I was a kid.  Getting excited about watching olympic track cycling but the yags who run nbc cant be bothered to put in online yet. All I can say is that if Theo Bos were American no one would care about Michael Phelps. I dont know why but I can muster any enthusiasm for what he has done. I guess the terrorists have won again.

Who will win in table tennis?

Probably a Chinese, or maybe this guy who is arguably the best table tennis player outside of the motherland of table tennis.

He is a popstar in China having beaten some of their stars at home before, almost as big as one of the basketball heroes. He already managed to get Germany into the team finals against China (take that, Dirk). The finals will be on Monday.

Timo Boll

(the guy in the picture) kicks butt. Currently, he’s the best non-Chinese player (despite those who think Ryu Seung Min is better).

You want to see something great, go to youtube and search for “Kreanga”. Most incredible backhand you’ll ever see. Check it out here:

I know no few think table tennis is a REAL sport, but I’ve played it for years and, believe me, done right it is one heck of a game and one heck of a workout.

Anybody know why Fran Vazquez isn't on the Spanish roster? Amlmart1?

Orlando is still hoping to bring him over to play alongside Howard on PF. Is he injured, not that good after all, …

So far it looks like they wasted a #11 draft pick on him in 2005, since he didn’t want to leave Barcelona since then.

I remember when he was coming up

that he was supposed to be a tough guy. The last I read from draftexpress is that he has regressed since he was drafted and has really fell of the radar.

DraftExpress should update his profile

Worst case: Never showing up for work ;-)

I was just interested cause I saw fans of Orlando discuss “where the heck is Fran on that Spanish Olympics team? He was supposed to be a stud in Europe”. And his Wikipedia article still says they want to bring him over as early as this season, but that might be wishful thinking.

They are also talking about acquiring homeboy Bosh in 2010, which really would be a powerful frontcourt.

how good the Magic would be if they would have grabbed Granger instead? They wouldnt have had to blow all that money on Lewis and maybe could have brought in a pg over 6’. Another example of a poor management group. I hear that they are once again combing the ranks of hockey front offices to look for their next GM

He's coordinated

But he runs like a goon, and slow too. I don’t think his body will be able to handle real NBA big man duties.

For his length and size, he’s really coordinated though.

Just doesn’t look like he’ll be able to run a court good enough to utilize his other skills (if he also gains any weight too, of course).

yeah he kind of has 2 left feet

and there were some summer league injury/eurosoftness concerns.

jury is way out.

his ceiling isn’t the highest but i wasn’t surprised to see him go where he went. and i won’t be surprised if he puts together a career. there are plenty of career plodders.

he showed nicely at this year’s hoop summit. he will be a fun one to track… fun to mock if he never “gets it”; fun to watch break the mold if he is the first worthwhile french center.

also he has a great voice.

I was going to reply to someone in the Bayless/Rudy diary but realized I was changing the subject

If KP doesn’t trade Raef LaFrentz at the trade deadline, then I expect the roster to stay intact until the end of the season. I can only think of two exceptions:

1) We are making a serious run at the playoffs and KP makes a trade for a guy that fills a weakness on the roster. I have no idea what the weakness is at this time but KP and Nate will know if there needs to be an adjustment.

2) Bayless develops faster than I expect for a 19 year old ball hog rookie and Sergio gets traded like Green was traded last year. (I know a point guard has to go, but I don’t have a problem with Bayless not getting many minutes this year. I still think he’s the future starting point guard.)

What is the difference between a deep team and a team that has too much talent?

"I grab every opportunity to tweak Timbo." - annthefan

by tominhawaii on Aug 17, 2008 1:51 PM PDT reply actions

Very well possible

Not counting signing Petteri (unlikely at this point) or a minor role player, I could imagine just one scenario that has KP making a big move even before the new season starts: Indiana seems interested in extending Danny Granger now, not wanting to risk him becoming a free agent in 2009 (as restricted as he may be). If these talks start and seem to get along, and he is the guy the Blazers really really set their eyes on, he might make them an offer.

If that doesn’t happen, the trade deadline should be the next stop. Even if we are happy with our team as it stands and don’t get active ourselves, he will undoubtedly get some offers for the RLEC and / or a few of his players that he will listen to (and compare them to what he hopes to otherwise achieve in the summer).

Dutch Oven Cooking Question

We had a Dutch Oven in Oregon and used it all the time. We had a super jiggy recipe for chicken and dumplings that we found in the Register Guard around the turn of the millennium. We just got a mail order Dutch Oven from Target and we can’t find that recipe. Does anyone have a Dutch Oven chicken and dumpling recipe that includes condensed milk?
