Podcast
The mostly-weekly podcast with your three favorite Blazer media goofballs--Gavin Dawson of 95.5 The Game, Casey Holdahl of the Trail Blazers' Center Court Blog, and myself--is up and ready to go. This week we talk extensively about Rudy and Oden (natch), Channing Frye parlaying humor into a long-term contract, the Olympic team's greatest omission, and a few odds and ends.
Enjoy!

Casey had it up around 2:00 today...
I thought about beating you to the punch and making a fanpost, but ehh…you know….wouldn’t want you to be jobless. And thus homeless. and thus Blazerless.
Aren’t I a swell guy?

I have soft hands too
I sleep with them lathered in Bag Balm and covered with socks so that they are nice and soft for my wife.

Hey Dave you made a comment on how Oden will get swatted on those jump hooks.
This is something I have been worried about. He got them off in college but in summer league Diop swatted it his first try. Steven Hill didn’t really even try to block Oden in those practice videos. So how does a player like him learn how to get those off in the league?
Shaq and a lot of other post players seem to effortlessly get them off. Do defenders have to be intimidated before they stop contesting that shot? Oden’s jump hook right now looks like it’s begging to get swatted.
Dave's Easy Guide to Oden's Early Years Offense
Step 1: No jump hooks…dunk it.
Step 2: No jump hooks…dunk it.
Step 3: After you get used to the league, the pounding, and how refs call things start establishing your physical presence by creating contact before you make a move. Don’t bother with the arm push offs, they’ll get called. Get your body into your defender’s body, create space, and then get your move off.
Step 3a: A big guy like you really doesn’t need to shoot a lot of jump hooks. Just establish a turn-around move (like that hook) until it’s credible enough that your opponents think you MIGHT go for it. Then when they move to defend it, spin the other way instead. See Step 4.
Step 4: No jump hooks…dunk it.
Obviously someday his offense will have to evolve beyond this, but that will come. Right now he’s the league’s newest young monster. His offensive time should be spent using his speed, power, and leaping ability to simply destroy opponents. Nothing fancy.

Agree, jump hooks are hard
Dirk Nowitzki said this off-season he is working on a jump hook, and still not satisfied with it. And that guy definitely can shoot.
Thinking about it, I haven’t seen a really good jump hook on a big man since Hakeem retired.
Odenied: Asked whether he noticed Oden favoring his right knee, Frye dismissed it entirely. "He favors dunking on your head, that's what he favors."
They always are
This time my mp3 player said it was an 1:58:10 long. I think they set it at the wrong bit rate. There was some crazy Max Headroom repeating going on in last 3/4ths of the podcast as well.

Dave, please tell Casey
that many times his voice will trail off and one can barely hear him.
The audio was messed off. I think we're all on the same page now, Oden should definitely dunk the ball
anytime he is around the hoop. I guess I was just impressed by the occasional jump hook he used at Ohio State. It’s funny for me to imagine Oden getting 10-15 points a game off of dunks and FT’s. In NBA 2k8 all I do is dunk with Oden and no one can stop it. When Yao, Duncan, KG, or Dwight try to I usually get the and 1. The only time I do shot a hook shot is when I hit the wrong button. Hopefully Oden will be able to bully his way under the hoop with out getting called for a lot of charges.
Oden can get great position
As long as he’s got the great position and our guards can get it into him (both seem likely), he’ll be able to just overpower the bad guys and dunk it on their stupid dumb ugly heads.
He’ll be so close to the basket that no charge will be allowed.
Just don’t lead with the elbow, Shaq-style, until you are known to be awesome and a league darling. So, no elbows until the 6th or 7th game of the season.

Oh Yeah
Why does Dave keep bringing up trading LaMarcus?
I also seem to disagree with almost everything Mr. Dawson says.

Would it be possible for you three to be in the same studio?
I suppose this way it’s harder to regulate the levels, and you are dependent on the quality of the phone line (crackling, less range in the voice).
