Court Rivals 8/12/08

It is that time Court Rival fans, time for a new Court Rivals thread!  I apologize to everyone that doesn't play court rivals and has no interest in this thread.  We are doing our best to cut down on the amount of these that are created and try to maintain all the info in as few threads as possible.  Thanks for your patience and understanding, oh and for being TomInHawaii.

Carrying on!  Here is the latest Google Player Attribute spreadsheet which was updated on 8/6/08 by the kind and wonderful Jerryd Oden.  If you have access and can update your team regularly it would be a great help, and reduce the work of one person.

In the latest BlazersEdge faux-league standings we have a Google League Standing Spreadsheet brought to us by the great Lamarcus Royden.  Thanks guys!

OK full disclosure: I copied the first three paragraphs from the last court rivals thread.  Continue discussion of all things Court Rivals here as the last one slipped way down the fanposts.

Also, if you want access to the Player Attribute spreadsheet, just tell me your email and I'll add you.

Challenges

There was discussion going on about apparently unanswered challenges – or maybe they were not scheduled – or not listed – on the last CR thread. Thought I would bring the topic over here as no one will probably read the one that just dropped off. They were the last messages in that thread.

looking to play BlazersEdgers to finish kERRpLEXERS round robin ( although I do see that their entire schedule is challenges )

And in that thread I asked

How many pending challenges do you show? No reply.

I have 2 left including BlazersEdge

..... just trying to clear this completely out by Day 30, however… I did read you can cancel challenges now?

BlazersEdge has only played one Edge team...... are they really on board with this??

We’re making an effort as well as the other top tier teams to play all involved. I would LOVE some rematches…. but was under the impression in a previous post to not play teams twice.

by Kersey Lives on Aug 13, 2008 10:35 AM PDT up reply actions

There are 10 challenges still showing...for BlazersEdgers...

I have all these challenges in the cue because I enabled all my team mates from day to have open access to challenges.

Currently I have
Bedgers2 on Thursday
Blazers on Friday
VerryKerrplexed on Saturday

But my cue is still full, they only show up to 10 and I do not know how many are on there. We may be screwed simply because of scheduling. Which would be a huge bummer.

If you know how to cancel challenges, let me know. I have been spending more time surfing the CR-forums for some advice on scheduling and clearing it up.

Sorry if you dudes think we are slackers for not getting back to you, but I thought I left the last post with an unanswered question as well. We want to win, and our team is pretty strong.

Blazers are not a BE team

FYI. Although 4 BE teams have played them so far, I assume just because they have the audacity to be named the Blazers.

by moko on Aug 13, 2008 2:53 PM PDT up reply actions

What I read was that you really can't cancel challenges

unless you meet certain parameters like being 2000 points below the opposition. I read also that there is a “cancel” button next to the challenges that you can cancel.

Just Blaze met a team that was 18-1. When it was all over they were 18—2 and JB has a 10 game win streak. Final : 129-94 Jason French had a double double, Leo the Great shot .705, Claire Redfield shot .571 from the 3 Pt line, & Marcus Lucas had 20 RBs.

Speaking of challenges

Re : BE Playoffs

The subject was raised in our CR forum about when to stop accepting/issuing challenges (depending, of course, on how many pending you have).

Who is coordinating the playoffs and are you formulating specific instructions about which BE teams issue challenges and in what order?

I just can’t see how this will work either at the end of this season or at the beginning of next since we are at the mercy of the computer which can override any of our best laid plans – unless someone is savvy enough about this sim to be able to know exactly what to do to make it do what we want.

by B-Roy_jr on Aug 14, 2008 2:10 PM PDT up reply actions

It seems unlikely given the lack of cooperation...

If we are serious about it, I say we give everyone a couple days to come and represent their team, and those who don’t will be disqualified. In a few days we can issue the first round challenges and hope that we can make it through our bracket before the end of the season. I doubt we can get everyone to complete the desired interleague games AND make it through a playoff bracket.

BEdgers is in for sure, so who else wants in??? We need representatives…

I’d be fine with the #1 seed getting a bye.

Maybe someone could send a message to the team captain of the 8th team and see if they want to participate. They might not have checked this thread in the past couple of days.

by JayAcer on Aug 14, 2008 8:22 PM PDT up reply actions

Here is my suggestion:

I say we just use the 8 teams we originally planned on. I wouldn’t mind my team getting a bye, but if we got 7 of the 8, might as well make it 8. Here is the condition though, any team who doesn’t accept or issue a challenge within a allotted amount of time, gets DQ’d. That means everyteam has to have 3 people prepared to accept the challenge if need be. However, since we didn’t complete interleague play, it seems unfair to award seeds based on solely our league record. Its really not an accurate indicator since it is incomplete, who knows how things might have shaked out for some of those teams that only played 3 or 4 games. So, I propose we award 1 one point for each of the three categories we decided to judge by, which were: 1)BE league record 2)rating 3)team attribute points. Here is what I think the seeding should be:

1)Bedgers—————————I (6-0) I (251) I (5430)
2)Bedgers2————————-I (4-2) I (235) I (5590)
3)vERRYkERRPLEX————- I (4-2) I (218) I (4758)
4)Just Blaze————————-I (2-2) I (194) I (5092)
5)Blazers Edgers——————I (1-2) I (134) I (5102)
6)Red Unit—————————I (0-5) I (184) I (4902)
7)Bedge Odenizers—————I (2-3) I (140) I (3533)
8)Blazing the Edge—————-I (0-3) I- (60) I (3203)

You can see that Bedgers beat every team below them in at least 2 categories, Bedgers2 beats everyone below them in 2 categories, kERplex beats everyone below them in two categories and just Blaze is no different. I think those top four seeds are locked, I don’t see how any of those teams could make a case to move up. I also think Blazing the Edge is pretty much a lock for the 8th seed, they don’t beat any of the teams in 2 categories. The 5,6 and 7 seeds required a bit more thinking for me. With my proposed scoring system, there is a snag. Of the 3 remaining teams, each team beats and loses to one team in 2 categories. I noticed that B-edge odenizers were the only team not to represent themselves here, so I figured they should just live with the 7 seed(they also have a major gap in training credits). Of the two teams remaining, Blazers edgers beats out Red Unit in two categories.

If nobody cries foul about their teams seeding or what I am proposing, I say we give each team until the 16th at 9:00pm (48hours from the time of this post) to attempt to issue the challenge. The other team that needs to accept will have until the 17th at 9:00 to get 3 teammates to accept the challenge. Every team needs to have someone say whether they issued the challenge, or tried to issue it but weren’t allowed to. Place those comments somewhere in this thread. If there are any teams after 48 hours that haven’t made a post here commenting that they challenged or attempted to, they are DQ’d That should help us see who is on the ball and who is slacking, and don’t forget to say what team you are representing. The only way to make this work is to have deadlines and DQ teams that don’t follow up on their end of the deal. If you snooze, you lose. In order to make sure you don’t get DQ’d, make sure you are checking in here and commenting as a record so everyone can see that you are attempting to challenge or attempting to accept. Remember, if you can’t get three teammates to accept a challenge after 72 hours, you will get DQ’d. If everyone is OK with this first stage, we can discuss how long to wait for the challenges to happen for each round. I suspect even if challenges are accepted, there will be instances where the game doesn’t play in time. We should develop a way to determine these outcomes if the game doesn’t play in X amount of time, and also what X amount of time should be for each round.

Let me know what you think, I would suggest recing this if you agree, and leaving a comment and suggestions if you don’t….

VK is in

but I still don’t see how this solves the challenge issues. BlazersEdgers sounds like they are completely qued up and how do you propose to leapfrog all of the challenges that they already have accepted if that is the case. If they can’t… that would give the 4 seed a first round bye which would screw up a bit. My goal all along has to been to clear out that que.

So is this a go or what? Is it VK and Red Unit? I will post it if we are a go.

by Kersey Lives on Aug 14, 2008 11:44 PM PDT up reply actions

I don't know how to solve that problem.

In fact, it is probably unsolvable. I was just talking about seeding and getting the challenges made, that needs to be done ASAP for us to have any hope of actually playing each other in meaningful games. If someone else has a suggestion for how we should set a deadline for each round, and determine the team that wins should the game not get played, I am all ears. It is still a major issue. In reality, the playoffs probably won’t work at all, every team is probably too backed up on challenges to make our match ups happen. Every team pretty much has to commit to stop accepting and issuing challenges, which is unlikely. I was just throwing something out there because it either needs to start soon, or not at all….

ROY > MJ

by myemic23 on Aug 14, 2008 11:55 PM PDT up reply actions

that has been my hope for about a week now

… and now I have emptied out a que where I’m not expecting to play any good teams at the moment. This will be frustrating if other teams have not put forth their best effort to make this work. Not to mention all the freakish hard work with the spreadsheets and everything else that people have put into this.

it’s early though… could still work. We do have 20+ days left in the season.

by Kersey Lives on Aug 15, 2008 12:00 AM PDT up reply actions

Heres a new problem...

so tried to challenge Red Unit again….. and it says I have already challenged them one time for the season. Are we only allowed one challenge per season per opposing team?? That will botch this whole thing rather quick.

by Kersey Lives on Aug 15, 2008 12:02 AM PDT up reply actions

They have to challenge you...

Apparently you can only challenge one team per season, but they can challenge you in a rematch. The whole playoff process relies on this being a fact.

You probably challenged them in the BE league game you guys played, so they have to challenge you by 9:00pm on the 16th, and you have to accept by the 17th at 9:00pm. This gives them two days to see this post and issue the challenge, if they don’t by the 16th, they DQ. If they issue by then and you do not accept by the 17th, then your team DQ’s. This gives you at least 24 hours to respond. If the challenge is met and accepted, we cross our fingers and hope it plays out. Although we should probably have a plan B if 12 days go by and no the game hasn’t been played…

Its just my suggestion, I haven’t heard a better idea and would be all ears if someone has one….

sounds good and i'm game

Frustrating that teams are still accepting challenges though. I think a lot of people are just not reading these threads or the forums and if people refuse to do those things then it makes this difficult.

Thought for getting around it… start new teams and leave the old ones. Of course, this may mean that people who are not paying attention are left behind, so that may not work either. Also… it means chemistries will need to be reformed and that may hurt some teams.

I do think teams should reform next season and change to captains that are on the ball and have time to commit to communicating and coordinating. That may also be an issue for some teams.

The best revenge

it’s said is to live well. After reading through the forums looking for insight, I came across a posting by our notorious Troll, PippenAintEasy. Like a young hellion with lots of promise but even more attitude, he’s led a wandering life since he started out with BEdgers2. After becoming a cancer in our locker-room, he hooked up with Just Blaze for a time. His attitude didn’t seem to change, but he at least voluntarily left…for a better team. JustBlaze proceeded to rattle off a long string of wins since then. Meanwhile, PAE has been cut from the Live Oak Eagles. The interesting thing is that PAE caught on with that team on their rise to the Pros. Now PAE has been cut, and another player has left the team. Coincidence? A predisposition to cancer is genetic isn’t it? Live Oak Eagles now find themselves as an 8-player team on the playground. PAE is now on to his 4th team this season. He’s managed to join another playground team that has no chance of sniffing the playoffs this season. It seems like one of those overly dramatic TV movies where the cocky kid rises too high too fast and crashes back to earth. Not with a bang, but a wimper. Now he’s broken down, reliving his glory…days, trying to score some rent money at a pick-up game on the playground. Meanwhile the people that he started out with have risen through the ranks with hard work and dedication to training rather than talking, and are now poised to become a College A team within a few days and likely a Pro team before the playoffs start.

Yes, I’m living well and am relieved that the head-ache is gone, but I feel sorry for a guy that has continually been given the same lesson and yet refuses to change his ways. Being a member of an electronic community is a privalege and should be respected lest you see yourself shown to the metaphysical door. If nothing else, his story has made me appreciate this place even more.

Thanks, Dave.

First off congrats are in order for BEdgers2 moving up to the college A division and BEdgers for moving up to college B!

3. Just Blaze’s streak includes wins over 5 quality opponents and 2 BE teams, and they do have college competition in cue to see if they’re really as good as they proclaim to be.

Guaranteed to be error free or your money back!

1. Blazing the Edge vs Autong Matigas, a playground team.
Blazing the Edge is still in need of two more players (not you Ratbastird!) and it showed in their 6th loss in a row, 106-113. Hang Tulo and Wung Hunglo had 18 points apiece.

2. Red Unit vs Sindikatas, a playground team.
Red Unit wins 106-97. Minute Bol had 27 boards.

3. BEdgers vs Smiling Assassins, a college D team.
BEdgers win this one handily 102-86 for a third win in a row. Jordan Micheal scored 19 for the BEdgers.

4. Just Blaze vs Istanbul AC, a playground team with 8 players.
Just Blaze wins by an absurd margin, 155-68. Roy Bot scores 35 and Just Blaze’s win streak is now at 12.

5. B-Edge Odenizers vs Lesser Crew, a playground team.
Odenizers lost 123-131. Phil SlammaJamma had 29 points in the loss.

6. BEdgers2 vs BlazersEdgers in BE league play.
BlazersEdgers led at the half, but eventually lost to BEdgers2 91-112. Barak Obama directed BEdgers2 with 8 assists, and Snoop Eastwood was the game’s high scorer with 27.

7. vERRYkERRPLEX vs lakers, a playground team.
VK beats up the lakers 124-62. Even though the lakers had only 8 players, it’s still good to beat the lakers. Greg Aldrige had a monster 20 points and 27 rebounds.

Blazers Broadcasters Mike Barrett and Mike Rice re-enacted NBA referee Scott Foster's controversial goaltending call on Portland Trail Blazers forward LaMarcus Aldridge, who was defending Oklahoma City Thunder All-Star forward Kevin Durant, during this week's edition of Blazers Courtside. Remarkably, no one was injured during the taping of this segment.
