really
I dont get how people think that things are going to be all right in PHX and DEN. Those teams did not improve since the trade deadline and may have significantly worsened.
C’mon

I think we'll finish above Denver...
... now that Camby is gone.
Phoenix is still a really good team. Nash has several more great years left (dude keeps himself in amazing shape) and Amare is Amare. Shaq isn’t going to give them much but methinks the Nash/Amare combination is more than enough to make the playoffs, though I could imagine them slipping to a low seed.

I might agree on Phoenix
if they still had D’Antoni. I imagine that there will be some less imaginative offensive sets that will not suit Nash as well under TP. No offense to TP but D’Antoni threw out some really interesting stuff and allowed Nash to create a lot; not all coaches can put this level of trust into a player even one like Nash who has proved capable of creating offense.
TP will also bring in a different pace. If the pace slows for Phoenix then it will magnify the defensive liabilities of both Nash and Amare which would not be a positive thing.
I think if Phoenix does keep the ship upright next year they will need some nice play from Boris Diaw and Barbosa. These are two non traditional players that not every coach will know how to use effectively. This applies more to Diaw as every team has a scoring combo guard these days.
I guess we will find out when the season starts, but I am not optimistic for that bunch

The guys at hoopsworld
picked us 9th too. I just can’t understand their reasoning for picking Denver above us, which was “All told, the Nuggets will still have a starting lineup that features Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson, Nene and Kenyon Martin with a young stud like J.R. Smith likely first off the bench..”
Isn’t this the same roster of good players thrown together in a terrible way in a system which has been proven unsuccessful?

I liked
how they thought Dahantay Jones and Chris Andersen where going to plug all of their defensive holes.
Also, Nene is scheduled to miss at least 60 games do to some major minor ailment.

Last year we were predicted to be dead last
by many prognosticators. We all know how those predictions turned out.

After reading all the comments
It seems that sitting Oden for a year has helped people to overlook him. Many people have forgotten why everybody was going absolutely silly (tanking) in trying to draft him. Once again we may be sneak up on some teams and take a victory that was unexpected (by our foe only, of course). Though I doubt coaching staffs will be as easily fooled as casual fans of other teams.

one person
commented that we needed low post scoring and Oden was not going to provide that. In my opinion we wont need it as we will try and succeed in the same way that NOH does by having Paul/Roy create and then dump it to a sweet shooting big, West/LMA, or throw a lob to a ridiculously athletic big Chandler/Oden. I dont know if we will have the same success with it, but it might just work.

Weakness?
Low post scoring was not our weakness last year. The number one weakness was low post defense. That is why we lost to teams like Orlando and Toronto, but we beat the Jazz, because those teams although not as good as most of the west but have huge inside scorers (Bosh, Howard) we lost but we stayed competitive in a tougher conference.

From the outside looking in, it seems fair to me
They know nothing about Rudy Fernandez and they probably didn’t watch the summer league. Since it is coming from the fans of a team that admits they are worse than us, I think it is a pretty fair assessment.
Ranking us 9th is silly because we’re a 41 win team that is adding Oden. I think most people that know anything about basketball would agree that Bayless and Fernandez improved the roster enough to win enough games to get the 8th spot. Oden is just the icing on the cake.

It's just a paste of Hoopsworld rankings
And, as a few of them note, all they did was take last year’s rankings and tweak them in a few places. They hardly have any teams moving up or down more than one spot, which is pretty questionable considering how tightly packed most of the West was last year.
Bayless isn't the second coming of Jordan.
Jordan was the first coming of Bayless.
