the media divide
first post cut me some slack, but there is a few disturbing things in media land
first there was Jason Quick pulling out Nate Gate.. I can't exactly put this all on Quick but it doesn't seem like he accurately relayed the feeling of the conversation which lead to the article, making it appear that this was some actual contract negotiations when in fact it was just conversational.
in this interview he appears a bit ticked at how blown out of proportion this whole thing has become link
and now from big suck's blog link
After getting a look at him over the last few days, the word is the Blazers are a bit stunned by how less far along Bayless is than they thought.
with the blazers endorsing 95.5 the game, It is easy to see why 1080 might feel a bit jilted
and with Quick being a somewhat regular on 1080 along with being on the receiving end of some bad intel from the blazers on draft night, have the blazers set themselves right in the middle of a media turf war,
do you guys think the other side of the media essentially pulling a rabbit out of a hat and making life harder on the blazers than it needs to be.
if there is one thing i am sure of, it is that Nate will be less candid with his words after this, i'm not saying that the media should only report the positive, just don't go inventing news, and accurately relay the context in which things were relayed to you, that is their job and not Nates.

Hmmm
The Blazers are probably one of the most tightly covered teams in the entire country, because one, there are no other sports in the city and two, the historic nature of the sports franchise. So anything that comes out of the Blazer’s camp is treated as important news and as such I tend to think that the media inflates their stories. Once it hits the net, woo, look out.
For example the Bayless story, they worded it as “stunned” now the connotation of that word is certainly different than “surprised” or “disappointed”. Really the statement its self is extremely vague, what do they mean by PG skills? Do they mean running the half court offense, running pick and rolls, or leading the fast break? In fact I would say “stunned” in that sentence really creates a highly negative sort of response, like Nate and KP found out that Jerryd dribbles the ball off his foot every time he tries running while dribbling.
That kind of thing really just feeds exaggeration, and illicits more attention to the story than it would(or deserves to) otherwise receive.
A Time For Heroes,
It's not right for young lungs to be coughing up blood
And it's all
It's all in my hands
And its all up the walls
Well the stale chips were up and the hopes stakes were down
Until Kp came into Town!

Let’s wait and see if he knows where the sideline out of bounds line is on the court.

Sorry I can’t misspell it on purpose.
I feel like we are communicating in Wall-e robot language. That movie was rather dystopic wasn’t it?

Bayless is a man for the future and, as I´ve said before, Jack is a man from the future.
Jacks knows the universe is expanding quickly and can´t understand why the court lines are not expanding at the same rate.

Although I’m not sure your theory is correct, after all isn’t Bayless a Trex?

Just as long
as Bayless doesn’t jump in the air, then look for the pass. That was just as bad as the sideline thing.
sounds like youve never been out of oregon
go see what the media is like for the knicks, redsox, cubs, cowboys, yankees, etc.

on the right track
never followed teams outside of oregon, and never payed attention to the media outside of oregon..
low BS tolerance
accurate reporting leads to increased access and trust and more interesting stories…
while sensationalist footnotes lead to the old days of media contact requiring media representatives present.
it appears that Nate attempted to explain his side of the story, and then 2 days later he explains how the story came about (when it would not die)... besides Quick’s footnote on the subject he has been rather mum on the subject, allowing speculation to run rampant.
anyhow, just thinking that the blazers had been repairing their relationship with the media, and recent events lead me to believe the status quo has somewhat degenerated.
Too Quick to print
I am not sure what is going on with Quick and the Blazers. Clearly there was a disconnect regarding his draft night report on believing that we traded for Augustin and not Bayless. Then we have a conversation between Nate and KP regarding a possible extension that he reported on. Either he did not recognize a clear opportunity for a lead story or it really was a casual conversation that should have been reported as such or not reported at all. It almost feels like overcompensating for not truly being an insider. Now we have the report of the Blazers staff being disappointed in Bayless’s skillset the very day that he is officially introduced to the Portland fanbase. I would think that the timing of this statement, if accurate, would be curious from One Center Court. I almost feel like some trial baloons are being floated and a certain reporter is running with it while possibly alienating his access to importnat information in the future.
It could also mean that we are all so excited for the season to start that we (I) place any and all tidbits of information under such a microscope that we (I) can spin any and all conclusions :’)
Ugh...
Why all the JJ1 hate? I thought we were over that. :(
I wouldn't put my comment as Jack hate
however, it is about pointing out shortcomings of Jack that are hopefully not repeated by Bayless.
