I was a freshan at OSU during his senior year
He was a very good college player and I loved watching him play. I actually saw him at a Blazer game last year wearing a white Maurice Lucas throwback, it was classic.
He had a Z-Bo-esque game down low and was pretty efficient. But Channing Frye always killed him defensively. Lucas’ moves were methodical and Frye was quick and athletic enough to contest everything he put up.
I’m excited to see him play again. I wonder how much he’s been training?

Brainfart
My roommate, known here as Brainfart (by very few people), bought a Passat from David Lucas a year ago. Lucas got him for several thousand for more than its worth! Boomshakalaka!

Awesome!
It’s also too bad they decided at the last minute to not put Diogu on there, as there was previously talk of him “playing in a few of them”. I would have liked to have scouted him as well.

This is his last chance to stay healthy one would think.

Actually
That’s a half truth.
Greg has been able to play for some time now but the blazers are being overly cautious and don’t want him coming back until the preseason.
Makes sense to me. There’s no urgency and the number one issue with knee surgeries are all those people who come back too soon (O’neal, Arenas, and so on).

There is still a possibility he’ll play from what I read elsewhere. The blazers need to get permission from his current team for that to happen and it hasn’t been worked out yet.

Why does ESPN
have Joel Freeland on their ‘08 draft site? -
“Draft Projection: Late first to early second
Similarities: David Lee”
Found something about him on his team’s official site. The best I could translate was that he is going to play for Great Britain in the Eurobasket tournament Sept. 7-20, 2009.

I keep finding things
He is on the British national team along with Luol Deng and Ben Gordon “seeking to qualify for the 2009 European Championships. ” This is what the Spanish site was referring to. Would Deng and Gordon really play for them? The coach did say he was counting on his core of European-based players. Since the tourney begins in Sept it would be in direct conflict with the NBA.
“Britain missed out on the qualifying competition for the 2008 Olympic basketball tournament, having restarted the national team programme too late.”

The Olympic games 2012 are in London
Wouldn’t you want to qualify with your team for that spectacle at home if you had a British passport? In order to get there, a good first step would be to qualify for the European championships (EuroBasket), since zero to hero is a little hard to do ;-)

basketball in england
as an oregonian who lived in england for the past ten years, i can tell you this.. nobody gives a crap about basketball. not in schools, not their laughable pro league. it just isn’t in their consciousness AT ALL. behind soccer, formula one, superbikes, rugby, cricket, darts, billiards (i’m not kidding). the fact they have a team at all is a minor miracle. perhaps their automatic bid to the 2012 olympics, with the participation of gordon and deng will raise bball’s profile, but i seriously doubt it.

Answering my own question. Pinnock was in training camp last fall and was the 3rd to last player waived. Ellis and Brent Petway were the last to go.

Josh Davis is from Salem if I recall correctly- He was the star of the Wyoming team that knocked out Dan Dickau’s Gonzaga squad in the NCAA tournament one year (one of the first times Gonzaga got Gonzaga’d).

the three guys we all want to watch here are Bayless, Batum, and PetKo.
Chris Ellis is like on his 3rd or 4th summer league roster with us. We must pay better than the other teams for this—you know he has to know he has no shot of landing on OUR roster.

I read that about the scouts from Gran Canaria going to Orlando and Las Vegas. With Brandon Jennings going straight to Europe the floodgates may open and we’ll see many players skip college altogether, especially with starting salaries so much higher than the NBA.

Brian Hendrickson says that Ellis played in the D-League last season and Lucas “just finished up a season with the International Basketball League’s Portland Chinooks, with whom he averaged 37.0 points per game.” No D in the IBL or is he that good???

the NBA blocked out webcasts of your local team though. That was a great marketing move there Mr. Stern.
Hopefully they are smarter this time around. If not, people here will be posting the pirated feeds. It worked out pretty good last year.

http://www.nba.com/summerleague2008/team/index.jsp?team=blazers
On the NBA.com summerleague site, JB isn’t listed on the roster. Was there a last minute change of heart or was it because this roster was possibly made up before he was signed?
by danevan on Jul 11, 2008 10:23 AM PDT 0 recs

It was put out before the trade was official and so he wasn’t a Blazer yet. It’s been updated but just on on their site.
