Fox Sports Article about KP
http://msn.foxsports.com/nba/story/8324086/How-the-Blazers-got-back-on-track
Mike Kahn, over at Fox sports writes a nice piece about KP stratagies, the Blazers promise, and a break down of some impact moves.
"Blake, center Joel Przybilla (28) and forward/center Raef LaFrentz (33) are the only players on the roster older than 24, and the 6-11 LaFrentz is crucial because his contract of nearly $13 million is expiring after this season -- opening the door for either a trade or free-agent acquisition down the road. They off-loaded problematic Darius Miles with a bum knee and more than $27 million on the salary cap with what was ruled a career-ending injury. (And even if he does make a comeback, it won't count on the cap -- although Allen would have to pay the salary as opposed to insurance coverage.)
Clearly, it's all part of the master plan of eradicating the losing culture."

btw
yes, I realize there are a ton off errors in the article, (that is the norm for national media). But I still thought it was a good piece.
PS. Joel never broke his leg. (just to set your mind at ease)

Thanks, that was pure awful. It makes him look like a boob
and it kind of makes me question the reliability of anything the guy writes. Not saying it wasn’t good to read, but if you don’t know the difference between and hand and a leg….

I think
I think mistakes like that one, happen because a writer just “remembers” something and puts it down, instead of taking the time to look it up to make sure. If your not a die hard Blazer fan, than a specific injury to a role player maybe easy to remember incorrectly.

I would think so
But how many times have we seen this, from so many different national writers, so maybe it is not?

Part of his job, and the editors... which there are probably like 3-layers....
Face it, Journalism isn’t a legitimate business now-a-days. I mean, Stephen A. Smith is technically a “journalist”, does he even proof read his own stuff? Site sources? No, nobody in the field of sports media is held to any kind of a standard, the only standard they are held to is that of the advertisers dollars: If they can sell to audiences, and the audience is provable, then they can sell advertising time and space. That is the only thing that matters.
Be weary of everything you read, unless I wrote it… Then believe everything and only question what I tell you to question.
on that note… Question everything Mortimer, jscot, jksnake99, and blzrfan post. Just because.

Is this true tho about if Miles comes back?
That Paul Allen pays the $ but it does not count against the salary cap?
If thats the case, Im entirely satisfied. 27 million isnt that much considering there are a 1000 million in a billion.

no
PA pays DMiles the $$ regardless. If he plays for another team, the money counts against the cap.

correct
Jksnake99 is correct, and Mr. Kahn was wrong. Like I said above there are a few mistakes in the piece, but over all it is a good read.

Regardless?
You mean if he comes back right? Insurance pays until then, correct?

actually
right now, insurance (not PA) is paying the $27 million (or most of it). And it doesn’t count against the cap.
if he comes back, then PA has to pay the insurance back and it counts against the cap as well.

minor detail
you got the essentials right, which is: Darius gets his money, it doesn’t count against the cap.
whether PA pays or insurance pays really doesn’t mean much to anyone other than PA and the insurance company.

And Batum is likely staying,
not being stashed. Its always nice to read something about the team in the national media, but he REALLY should have checked facts. Thats just half-aced journalism..
I remember the good old days. The Rasta Monsta days.
by GreatOden'sRaven on Jul 8, 2008 2:29 PM PDT 0 recs
no one really knows about Batum yet
he could stay, he could go. at first it looked like Batum would go overseas, but recently there has been talk of him making the roster this year. No one knows for sure, so that is not a huge error

Mike Kahn is always on Blazers Courtside Radio Programme
He coulda called either of the Mikes or Wheels and asked them to read it over to make sure it was correct. Columnists, even if writing their opinions, should fact check like any other newspaper writer. Just cause so many don’t seem to these days, doesn’t make it less annoying (or okay).
These were mostly silly mistakes anyways. 21 wins? Broken leg? He also said KP was a Korean woman in a wheelchair, which is way off.
He’s complimentary, which warms my heart, but these sort of mistakes are very lazy. They are easy to catch.
