Sergio left off Team Spain?
Not sure on any of this, but SLAM posted a review of the Spanish National Team and one Sergio Rodriguez is not included. They only list 11 players, so I see a glimmer of hope. I imagine this would be pretty rough news for Sergio. I haven't been able to locate any official release of the actual roster yet, help!
Here is the slam article:

Anyone know anything else?

He is out.
The three PGs are Calderon (Raptor), Raul Lopez (ex-Jazz and no playing for Real Madrid) and Ricky Rubio.

as a Spainiard...
... do you agree with the coach’s decision to leave Sergio off the team? What does Lopez bring that Sergio doesn’t?
Also, are Spanish fans expecting a gold or would most people be satisfied with a silver or bronze?

I would be satisfied with a silver or bronze and most people too IMO.
When Raul Lopez was at Utah in 2002/2003 he played in all of the 82 regular season games as the backup to starting point guard Carlos Arroyo, while averaging 7.0 points, 3.7 assists and 1.9 rebounds in 19.7 minutes per game. He´s 28 years old and you can call him a vet.
First: Defence is a matter of collective commitment, if a player doesn´t defend all the work of his teammates is lost.
Second: Sergio needs the ball in his hands and likes to take risk and attack quickly. He´s like a three pointer strategy, you can win some games shooting from the arc, but usually you will lose.
But don´t trust a lot my opinion because I don´t know much.

Apparently Sergio blames this on
Not getting playing time in Portland. He’s been a sourpuss in the off-season, but at least he waited. I’d be even more annoyed had he been saying these things during the season. Then again I bet he was too busy with Rebecca Haarlow. Whatever became of that anyways? That was the most random awesome event ever.

...Don’t know how long it lasted. But it was revealed during the halftime of some game, I think it was after the allstar break.

You should see what happens when you think you hit preview.
Or even when you think you hit cancel, because you thought better of it. Interesting things happen, interesting things.

and so is the Spanish soccer team. Anything bad that happens to someone because of Spain is the fault of Nate not giving enough minutes.

Too bad
I feel bad for the guy. I’ve never been a Sergio supporter but it sucks to have a life long dream crushed. Although I don’t agree with his decision to not do summer ball, I do understand that he probably wants to get the hell out of PDX and get his head straight. Hopefully the Blazers can work out a deal and get him to a team that has a need for his style of play. At this point, it really would be best for everyone involved.
by erastus25 on Jul 7, 2008 2:58 PM PDT 0 recs
He needs to get some run
and practice with his team. If he isnt gonna work at it.. well.. who cares. No point in being a crybaby. If he doesn’t have the competitive nature to work to be better, he will never be great.
Ser-Ser-Ser-gio…
He needs to get his tail in Tualatin and get to work!

I don’t agree with his decision to stay out of the summer league, but I understand it. Bayless and PetKo will be there, so where will Sergio’s minutes be?
Not saying he wouldn’t get any minutes… but he might THINK he won’t get any.

A good player...
...rises to the top regardless of coaching. If he were as good as he thinks he, it would have been obvious, even in limited playing time. The fact that he did not make the Spanish national team is not because of a lack of playing time in the NBA. The fact that he is not getting an playing time is not Nate McMillan’s fault. Most of us, I hope, realize that when things aren’t going our way, we’ve gotta step up and do something about it ourselves and make it happen. Sergio has not done that, that’s why he has the problems he does.

TRADE SERGIO
I never thought I would say that and actually mean it, but it has come to this. There simply isn’t room to nurture him along at this point, and we will probably never play a style that he can excel at. I say trade him to GS or NY where the team is rebuilding, needs a pg, and plays an uptempo style. New York is a perfect fit, but GS might work as well. I still have a ton of faith in Sergio, I think he can be a really special pg with the right coaches and some time to develop. Both GS and NY would be a good change for Sergio, I want to see him traded to either place so he can get a legitimate chance to do what he does best…

Sergio will fit right in at Golden State
Trade him to the Warriors for future picks… with Baron gone, Sergio can play off the bench behind Ellis, who is not a true PG. I think Sergio is perfect for NellyBall 2.0.
Sergio deserves more minutes in the NBA, but he’ll never get a shot at Portland. All the best Sergio wherever you go… I just hope you stay in the NBA and not go back to Europe.
