Don't know if they count as "forgotten"

From the Paul Allen Era>

Detlef Schrempf (definitely remembered in Seattle)

Buck Williams

Cliff Robinson. Together with the above mentioned James Robinson and the not yet named Rumeal Robinson formed the “Three Robinsons”.

Just looked up Jim Jackson, he played for 13 different NBA teams (12 on the active roster)! That must be some kind of record for a journeyman.

Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...

Walt "The Wizard" Williams

Man how could you leave out the Wizard, that guy could shoot. He also had some hiiiigh socks.
Stacey Augmon; I don’t know if he qualifies as forgotten.

by ChadFord on Jul 5, 2008 9:38 AM PDT   1 recs

Yes!

Those were the two guys I was going to add. Augmon was “The Plastic Man” – I remember loving him for his defense.

Walt was indeed awesome

We were so insanely deep he hardly got to play. He’d come in, knock down 3 treys and sit down.

great list of guys who never amounted to anything

I got this tape of an old PTB game where Tracy Murray lofts a 3 and by loft I mean rafters, and it actually goes out of the screenshot before gravity takes over and pulls it back thru the net like a black hole. Amazing touch that guy had, too bad he didnt play D.

He had some sweet half court shot abilities.

He’s now doing awesome bball training vids apparently.

According to this Askmen.com article
In 2001, it was only at $306.34 per month for each season played - regardless of performance. Meaning both Michael Jordan and the 12th man on any bench would get the same $50,000 after a 14 or 15-year career.

maybe in todays game, but fantasy aside, Tom Owens wore the rose red and black with pride. I’d never dishonor Tom Owens like that. Tom in Hawaii yea maybe, and not before Tom Peterson, but definitely after Tom Owens.

T.O.

You made me look, BOW4MEOW, and I stand corrected. Tom took over after Walton stormed out of town, and played 4 years from 77 to 81. The middle years he averaged 30 minutes, 14 to 18 ppg. Not too bad. He’s in the South Carolina Hall of Fame.

Clearly, TPTB chose to take Bowie instead of Jordan to make that trade fair. Otherwise Blazer fans would have had to put up with everyone whining about how our team stole MJ for nothing more than Tom Owens.

Buck Williams….we should go over to Indy Cornrows and talk smack on how we got Buck Williams for nothing but Tom Owens.

Chris Dudley

may not be forgotten, but I always liked him

by sixth on Jul 5, 2008 3:36 PM PDT   0 recs

Duds

Had not Duds gone down with a terrible injury, that team might have had enough to contend for it all. Adelman had Dud’s pegged as his interior defender, rebounder (with Buck) and he was an underrated outlet passer (sometimes I thought he played like it was Hot Potato). With Jerome, Clyde and TP that team would have rocked.

I remember...

watching him walk off the court and think “oh, he’s walking, probably just a sprain”, and then learning the next day that his ankle was broken. Even as a kid it didn’t take me long to realize that the team was in trouble as he was the only real center they had.

Rick Brunson!

Oh, man. I took my dad to a game in ‘98; I got us tickets for Christmas. Houston was in town, and it was going to be Clyde’s last (regular season) game in Portland.

However, that week events conspired to make that game a WHOLE lot more interesting. That was when Isiah Rider flipped out during a blowout against the Lakers, and then blamed the incident on his theory that black people were being lynched 40 miles out of Portland. This generated, oh, just a little bit of controversy in the local (and national) press.

Moreover, the Blazers made the Stoudamire trade either the day of the game or the day before, so the Blazer line-up was about nine deep since none of the new players had been cleared to play yet.

Some of you may remember that game-during the first half, at least, the crowd at the Garden booed Rider every time he touched the ball, and harder than I’ve ever heard a Blazer crowd boo anybody. In addition to that, the most sustained and heartfelt applause of the evening came when Clyde was introduced with Houston’s starters. It was one of the most priceless and bizarre moments in the history of the franchise, and my dad was endlessly amused by the spectacle. It was one of the best Christmas presents I’ve ever gotten him.

Meanwhile, even with a depleted line-up, the Blazers easily handled the aging Rockets line-up; Clyde had an off night, Hakeem was quite a ways off his brilliance of 1995, and Barkley played pretty well, to no avail. But Rick Brunson played his tail off that night, and was a key to a terrific effort by the Blazers (so, it must be admitted, was Rider, who played well enough that the fans quit booing him by the second half). Anyway, Rick Brunson played a prominent role in what may always be my most memorable live-action NBA experience.

Wally Who?

Wally Walker was drafted 1st round the year we won the Championship (following spring) and nobody here had ever heard of him. Sadly his only fame is from EngineerScotty’s excellent skewering of Sonics villains.

Aldridge said. "We feel like we can beat any team. We feel like we can beat the Spurs, Suns, Lakers, Mavericks, whoever any night right now, and we'll still be here when those teams get old and their guys retire. We're going to be here for a long time."

And other people like us, we gotta work
And theres even some evil mothers
Theyl’l tell you that life is just made out of dirt
And women never really faint
All the villains always blink their eyes
That children are the only ones who blush
And life is just to die

Anyone who ever had a heart
And wouldn’t turn around and break it
Anyone who ever played a part
And wouldn’t turn around and hate it

Ah, Man?

“Man?” I guess I’ll have to learn to accept that as non-gender specific. (I often say “guys” to mixed groups or even just women.) I once pointed out an error in Eric M’s Blazer Blog and he replied “Thanks, man” and I informed him that not all his readers were male. Maybe I was the one who mad the wrong assumption.

But yes, I figured you hadn’t noticed the subject line, and had it been anyone but you I would have just let it go. Probably. I might have zinged Dave or Rastabird or someone else I’ve known a long time.

It’s not so much non-gender specific as not person specific. Sort of like saying, “Oh, crap.” But of course I would never say that. :)
