Preseason schedule announced

Dave or Ben will probably be putting something up on the front page shortly (at which time they should delete this fanpost), but in the interim, I thought I'd pass along the preseason schedule.

Oct. 7: Sacramento @ Rose Garden, 7 p.m.

Oct. 8: Golden State @ Rose Garden, 7 p.m.

Oct.10: Atlanta @ Sprint Center (in Kansas City, MO!), 7 p.m.

Oct. 12: Utah @ Rose Garden, 3 p.m.

Oct. 20: @ Sacramento, 7 p.m.

Oct. 22: @ L.A. Clippers, 7 p.m.

Oct. 23: @ Utah, 7 p.m.

I wrote a bit about the schedule over at my spot. It looks like we got a bunch of the teams that had a lot of personnel moves in the offseason.

I hate it when folks who comment first

type “First!” so I’ll just take that spot right now and put an end to it.

jokes, man, jokes

I feel like posters in here are my brothers (and sisters) of Blazer fandom. As you are my brother in this sense, it’s instinctual for me to reply sarcastically about “x” when you say you hate “x”... I meant no harm.

You sorta had it coming, brother. Unless you were trying to be funny by putting that first and I just totally missed the sarcasm… if that’s the case, I feel silly. It’s so hard to pick up that ever-fleeting sarcasm. The more I read your original comment and your reply to my reply, the more I think this is the case…

I think we should adopt a comment for when people completely blow it on picking up sarcasm. Boo, that should be it. You typed something sarcastic, I failed to pick it up and replied, you type Boo, I then know that I totally blew it.

BOO, me!

You're right, 'throws

For the record, I have no problem with the “First!” shtick. It’s silly, but no more so than a lot of comments on BE. I was trying to come up with an ironic witticism but I was in a hurry because I knew 92 was breathing down my neck.

Humor is a car that must be driven carefully. Two dented fenders, both drivers at fault. Move along folks, nothing to see here…

You two

are hysterical.

I laughed last night when I read Animal’s not-first first post. Then I laughed at ‘92’s response. Everything beyond that was “Mom, he hit me!” “I did not!” “Yes, you did!” “I did not” ... ad nauseam.

Love you both.

The Sprint Center is nice and new

and meets NBA standards. OKC is a small market but Kansas City is not and the argument that OKC had to leave Seattle for economic reasons goes a little flat for their bypassing a better arena in a bigger metro area in KC.

The NBA seems to want teams to have leverage against their cities by moving a few from time-to-time.

I hope that they are visiting Milwaukee on a day when I can go.

Besides, Milwaukee fans are more mellow than Chicago fans. I probably wont even be noticed in my Blazer polo. Whereas I might die if I wore it to Chicago. That, and it is a long drive to the Windy City from where I’ll be.

Apparently it's already decided how many times all teams play against each other

But not the dates. In an OKC newspaper was a report that they play Dallas and the Kings just once at home, and the Lakers and one other top team that I forgot (Utah, San Antonio?) just once away. Which means for us we have all four games against OKC.

Odenied: Coach, I promise I wasn't running hard ...

by Norsktroll on Jul 31, 2008 5:53 PM PDT   0 recs

We'll get all four against Utah.

I b’lieve that’s a guarantee among division-mates.

Ooh, L[xxx]rs have to visit the Rose Garden (where they always get kicked around) twice against hosting us once.
They’ll regret THAT, I bet.

Blazers have a five-on-three...and they pull it back and wait for help.

by QualityPie on Jul 31, 2008 6:31 PM PDT to parent up   0 recs

yep

static every year:
home and away against all 15 east teams = 30
2 home/2 away agaisnt division = 16

changes year to year:
that leaves 36 games amonth the remaining 10 teams from the West. We play 6 of those teams 4 times each (2 home/2 away) (24 more), and the other 4 team 3 times each (1/2 or 2/1) (12 more)

so, all that remains to be seen is which of the Pacific and SW teams we play 4 times, and which we play only 3

Rule #1 of nitpicking is to get it right.

I wanna play--

Outside the obvious Laker game, which will mean a lot more obviously, I wanna see us play Minnesota.

I simply cannot wait for Oden and LMA to TOWER over lil’ Kevin Love and the Rich Man’s Z-Bo, Alvin Jefferson.

Oden versus Robert Swift will be cool too. Destroying OKC will always be sweet.

Ya know what? I’d settle just watching Oden play anyone. I’m easy. Crazy to think it’s only a lil’ over 2 months away. That’s NOTHING. Time moves so fast now, ever since global warming made the Earth spin faster and closer around the sun.

Crazy world holmes, etc, yo.

Clearing Room For The Blazers Out West

As the playoff picture begins to take shape it becomes clear that the Western Conference is one big game of musical chairs. There are nine viable playoff teams; unfortunately there are only eight playoff spots. For the Blazers to get a spot, one of last year's playoff teams needs to fall off. Someone's going to be caught standing when the music stops. The following are possible scenarios that could derail each team on their quest for playoff glory, helping the Blazers get back to the postseason for the first time since 2003.
