Blazers interested in Hughes for Przybilla

I found this shocking bit of news in an article about the contract situation of Bulls guard Ben Gordon: "The Bulls also have discovered some interest in guard Larry Hughes, as long as they're willing to take a big contract in return. Since the Bulls need to thin out their backcourt, some possibilities could include Portland's Joe Przybilla, New York's Jared Jeffries, Dallas' Erick Dampier or Denver's Kenyon Martin." Now, apart from spelling Przybilla's name wrong (and it's not the name that usually gets spelled wrong), this implies that the Blazers are interested in Larry Hughes...

I missed where it said

That the Blazers were actually interested in this trade. The reported just listed him as a possibility in his opinion.

lol,

this is just a blogabull rumor, like our “Tmac a Blazer?, Grant Hill a Blazer?” posts. I already mocked it over there. I almost wanted to say that the only way they get Larry Hughes on our team is if they do a 2 for 2 deal: Rose+ Hughes for Pryzbilla+Raef. That would have resulted in me getting run off the site, though.

link?

and I agree with Timmay! that it sounds like they are just naming random people with big enough contracts.

Have no fear

I think we can safely ignore this rumor. As with virtually any NBA rumor site, including ESPN’s (which really is just a bunch of links to stuff you can find for free on Google News, a devious way for ESPN to make money) it’s important to keep your BS detector engaged:

1. The article gives no sources. You might think the “reporter” just wants to keep them secret? Well, he should at least say so, but even then he’s probably just talking nonsense. Remember KP’s comment about rumors going public? He said they’re basically spin or maybe even trade deals dumped long ago, no longer viable. In other words—rumors like these are basically lies or speculation.

2. The “reporter” assumes Oden will be healthy-that is not a given-so they should dump Przy’s big contract? Right. Keep in mind that Przy’s contract is half the size of Lafrentz’s and about three million less than Miles’s. It’s as if the “reporter” looked up the big contracts for teams most likely to make trades in the next year, picked the biggest one of a guy actually playing, and thought, “Yeah, here’s the guy they’ll trade.”

And for another shooting guard? Please. Forget these guys.

by rpeachey on Jul 31, 2008 10:58 AM PDT reply reply   0 recs

Especially THAT shooting guard.

Asked his specialty in the kitchen, Oden paused and said, "Hamburger Helper and tuna fish."

Utterly. Freaking. Preposterous.

Was this a reporter? If it were, this reporter should be banned for life from ever watching another NBA game, much less reporting on one. This is the single most nonsensical piece of trade gossip I’ve ever seen. Larry Hughes is, literally, one of the worst players in the league to have on your team. He cares nothing about winning. He freely admits it.

I forgot, though, the Blazers have a hole at the two spot. Other than a returning all-star second year guy, the best player in Europe, and (at least in a sense) the MVP of the summer league, I mean. Other than that, there’s basically nobody.

Bayless isn't the second coming of Jordan.
Jordan was the first coming of Bayless.

The contracts don't even match by a cool 5 mil per year ;-)

Same with Jeffries. Nice trade blather. Though Dallas would do pretty much anything to get rid of Dampier’s crazy contract now. But I guess Chicago will have to wait for the LHEC.

I call it LHED (pronounced lead)

Larry Hughes Expiring Deal.

It fits like RLEC (relic) fits Raef.

No one is gonna take Hughes’ deal unless it is an expiring deal situation or the Bulls are getting a worser contract. He is AWFUL.

Fear not

Wilt Chamberlain’s rotting corpse has a better chance of playing for the Blazers next year than Larry Hughes. Is KP going to pick up a horrible contract right when he’s close to ridding the franchise of similar deals? No. Freaking. Way.

But speaking of Przybilla, he’ll be a guest tonight on Courtside at 6:15.

The guy was simply listing some players...

... he’d like to see his team acquire and that he thought might be available. There was nothing that indicated he thought the Bulls were actually talking to any of those teams about the players mentioned.

Hmmm...

I normally take the stance on any given trade that if Pritchard actualled pulled it, it would probably turn out to be the right deal. In other words people complain that we don’t need a Luol Deng or Deron Williams, but we don’t really know. If KP actually made that deal I’d bet those guys would turn out to be pretty much what we needed.

However in this case if Pritchard pulled the trigger on that deal he would be immediately crucified on the main page. ANOTHER shooting guard? Really???

He's got a nice tear drop

A nice tear drop TATTOO that is! Wocka wocka wocka!

That means he is tough, right? Like you said, we need toughness. And his deal expires in 2010, so we can be players in the 2010 free agent market. I don’t care what anyone else says, cap space is like rollover minutes and it just shows up the next year if you don’t use it one year.

I mean, once upon a time Larry Hughes had one good season in a contract year. That means he’s BOUND to be that good again, right?
