Donte Green falling

The comment made in the 24th minute about “there was a reason Donte Green fell” in the draft. The real reason is because he got in an argument with one of the assistant coaches during his workout in New Jersey and it spread around the league and hurt him. He is a top-15 talent.

I was just about to post ...

a new fanpost asking for podcast links. perhaps this timely thread is the place instead.

I’m stuck in seattle without much blazer coverage aside from BE and I’d like to subscribe to any and all blazer related podcasts. Anyone got a list or link to share?

and to make this blazer related, battier may be attractive, but i’m looking forward to seeing what the coaches can do with the defensive potential we already have in web and batum. ‘ships or not, watching this team grow is going to be great!

Thanks!!

I don't like some of the comments on Point Guards...

How can they say Chris Paul and Deron Williams are “combo guards?!” There is no one in the NBA who averaged more assists than them. Also notable is that Baron Davis averaged 7.6 apg…

Just because someone has a high point average doesn’t mean they’re not a point guard.

PG's and who would fit better - CP, DW or TP

My thoughts exactly…. Listening to Gavin ( who I can’t stand and hasn’t played a game of basketball in his life) & Casey talk about Tony Parker being a better fit for the PTB (and I do realize it was all hypothetical) because CP and DW are more of the “shoot first” type of PG’s just boggles my mind. CP led the league with 11.6 APG and DW wasn’t far behind with 10.0 APG… Tony the pass first PG… 6.0 APG

Ugh…

You're correct

I misspoke when I referred to those guys as “combo guards.” What I was trying to say is that Paul and Williams are the guards on their teams. What’s more, both are the unquestioned leaders on their respective teams.

I guess what I’m getting at is neither of those guys are use to playing second fiddle. Tony Parker, on the other hand, has been playing with the best power forward and one of the best swingmen for the entire duration of his career. And in that, I think it’s possible that he’d be a better fit for the Blazers.

I am not excessively fond of Outlaw when he's considered in isolation

He’s yet to develop to his max potential after a LONG time in the oven and for a guy with his skill set and athleticism his statistical production is still lower than I’d like to see. Plus he still doesn’t drive deep enough, still can’t catch the ball on the run that well, and doesn’t pass well.

However when you look at the role he played off the bench for the Blazers last year he was indispensable. Nobody else could do what he did: score the ball one-on-one in any given situation and take the pressure off of B-Roy. Battier definitely does NOT have that ability or anything close to it. If you believe Bayless or Fernandez can earn fourth-quarter minutes and scoring roles alongside Brandon then maybe you make that deal, but it’s really early for that assessment. Unless you trust them big-time you don’t deal Outlaw right now, especially not as part of a Battier deal.

If anything that kind of deal would happen around the trade deadline…probably for both sides.

I agree.

How much value do you think Rudy Fernandez has trade wise?

With Bayless and Outlaw in the second unit he seems a little redundant as a scorer coming off the bench. It also seems like it might be a burden to develop/acclimate our army of rookies next year while trying to win games. He seems like he has a lot of potential, but then again there are like 13 players on the roster that have a lot of potential.

Any chance he is included in a trade?

0% Chance

Rudy is here to stay. We’re the reason he decided to play in the NBA.

Battier vs Mike Miller

Mike Miller is not the great defender (Batum will become that SF) that Battier is. But Miller does fill that “Team-player” role along with scoring that’s needed at SF.

Mike is unrestricted next year and with our CAP space, I think a better pick up for the Blazers than Battier.

by spencerbutte on Jul 30, 2008 11:30 PM PDT up reply actions

My mistake

Mike Miller won’t be unrestricted until the following year.

*Mike Miller*

We’ll still have a chance at snatching him up if we decide he’s the guy we want. He went to the T’Wolve’s whom most likely be among the worst teams in the West. They’ll look to trade him for more young talent at the trade deadline this year. We’d have a lot of what they’re going to be looking for.

I reread

and questioned my own comment. Dave, your the knowledge that the show defaults to and for good reason. thats a big part of what makes it a good show, and why I always listen. I dont always agree with you, but always understand that you have a much greater overall, in every catagory, dominent understanding or insight with basketball. you never seam to just go out on a limb just to go out on a limb so when you do I trust, but offering bayless as the only possible replacement(in podcast) left me with lifted eyebrow. I did think you cleared it up well thogh, and I like your responce even better. I dont think we have to make any trades right now.

Slammin' the Kings and Warriors

I hate to agree, but I do. Those teams are built for a long string of 40-win seasons.

I disagree

with the kings as they have a nice GM and coach who did surprisingly well in his rookie season.

They reach of the draft, Jason Thompson, is now looking like a potential player.

Lots of fat contracts are coming off the books in 2010 which is shaping up to be a huge year FA wise.

They are definitely a long way from being contenders, but I could see them starting to blossom in the next few years.

Life is exhausting when you are this stupid.

by jonestr on Jul 31, 2008 4:21 PM PDT up reply actions

What does that make now,

26 teams who will have lots of cap space in 2010? Looks like a great time to be a free agent, but all that competition probably doesn’t help the Kings and other small-market teams looking to sign an impact player.

26

seems like a hypebolic number, and they will have money for a better FA group than us, but point of points is that they are not saddled to their mediocre players and have given them selves lots of flexibility. I also previously pointed out that they have good management and a coach with a seemingly bright future. Considering that they won 38 games last year with tons of injuries and internal problems I would not be surprised to see them make a jump this year. Not playoffs but definitely a team that you cant gloss over. They seem like they are 76ers like in how they have positioned themselves.

Also, you are correct they are in a small market, but they have a very loyal and dedicated fan base and

Technical Difficulties

I might be the only person who listens to the podcast on the bus, but again on max volume I can only hear Casey about 75-80% of the time and Dave is the loudest. I also think the speed is still wrong because my iPod says the podcast is an hour and 50 minutes long.
