Starting Lineup???
Assuming everyone's health, who should begin the season in the starting lineup?
Assuming certain players develop accordingly, who should we expect to be starting after the All-star break?
MY PICKS
begin season: Blake, Roy, Webster, Aldridge, Oden
Come playoff time, I expect a solid 10 man rotation:
starter - back-up
1. Bayless - Blake
2. Roy - Rudy
3. Webster - Outlaw - Rudy
4. Aldridge - Diogu - Outlaw
5. Oden - Przybilla
Sorry Fry, serg, Batum, you won't be getting much time the season..

I agree with your starting lineup
Blake, Roy, Webster, Aldridge, Oden
I think that’ll be the starting lineup for the entire season (not accounting for any injuries, of course).

Don't forget about Amare Stoudemire
he only played in 3 games one season then played in all 82 the next year. Greg is only 2 inches taller and will be about 20-30 pounds heavier. No reason we can’t expect Greg to do the same

Bayless
I think by the end of the season Bayless will have developed into the right point guard sidekick for Roy. He is a legitimate scoring threat and has the passion to play hard for the starting role. They will continue to stand by Blake through training camp because he has the experience but that will only push bayless to be even better. With that kind of motivation he will develop the skills that he needs to take over the point.
From the management perspective Steve Blake is not the caliber of point that will lead the team through the play-offs or into the long-term Championship caliber team they want to be. He is a stop-gap veteran who has proven he can play point. But Jerryd is the future and represents the missing piece. My only worry is that he will develop too quickly.

Whoa whoa whoa!
Look, he’s got the size to play PF and he’s got a buttery jumper. His defense is good and he put up impressive numbers towards the end of the season. He has lots of room for improvement and I think he’s going to get playing time.

I need me some frye
Frye is a solid player, and will be the back-up at the 4. he going to be seeing the floor more that ike, and probably even more than pryz. he had a tough time with some injuries and then adapting to a new role in portland, but dont forget how good he looked during his rookie year where he was considered “un-tradeable” by the knicks. this season, what for him to make some leaps. I put him as being this seasons greatest improved player who was on the roster last season. Also, frye is a great role player to come off the bench, and he will earn his minutes, you can count on that. And someone mentioned a few weeks back that he has been stroking the 3’s this summer, he already had some range, but think how this could open up the floor for GO and LMA.

Frye is one of the most effective backup 4/5s in the league. The Blazers were better, statistically, with him on the floor. The chances he gets worked out of the rotation are an absolute zero. And, as an aside, I wouldn’t want to see him get traded.

Frye
Fry will get no more than 10 min. a game, we already have a lanky PF that can spread the defense, Aldridge, Ike will come off the bench as a change of pace. Hes the type of player we were lacking last year, a husky hustler.. the second coming of Brian Grant.
You can expect Aldridge to get about 35 min. at PF, leaving 13 min. for a backup. And you can also expect (if there are no injuries) that Oden and Pryzbilla will share all 48 min. at C. That leaves 13-15 min. for Ike and Frye to share… not to mention Outlaw will get some time at the 4 spot.
i agree that Frye is a legit player, but we have no room for him.

Think About it...
Where will Fry find time? Diogu will be the primary guy off the bench to fill the PF position, he’s not just a throw in. diogu and Frye are both role players, period. we need diogu’s role (power, size, hustle, defense) much more than Frye’s. Aldridge already does everything Frye can, times 2.
Depends who we are playing, match-ups will make the difference on who gets more time, but my moneys on Diogu.. think about… what did we lack last year?? power, hustle, size. defense.. Thats what he will give us off the bench, change of pace.

Where will Frye find minutes?... The answer Mismatches/match-ups...
Two things.
1.) Channing Frye has the skills to be in any NBA rotation. Frye is an above-average talent with a “ideal” size at the 4. Channing is a 6’11” 245lb forward who can run the floor, shoot from 15 or from the 3-point line, and play in the paint. Frye is a weapon that will not have “set” minutes,... like you (the dynasty) are suggesting by simply clumping the entire season into one statistical form. Foul issues will give Frye more minutes (LMA, Oden, or Pryz), plus Frye is more of an offensive threat than Pryz at the 5, or Diogu at the 4. Because each game is a different story line, Frye will definitely be a player who has 5 minutes one game and 22 minutes another, sure he might average 12 to 18 minutes per game, but he’ll get PT, and lots more if he is effective.
2.) Nate is smart enough to know when and how to create and exploit mis-matches. Channing Frye will be a big cog in Nate’s exploiting plans. A “spread-4” is a very dangerous weapon to have, especially in a second unit. Also, there is no guarantees that a starter won’t go down with injury for some games. This will boost Channings minutes through a portion of the season, and his final stat-book numbers. Nate told Channing before the summer that if he wants more playing time to work on getting his shot ready to nail all over the court and expand his range into 3-point territory. Frye has been working on this all summer and if he shows up a deadly shooter, which is definitely in his capabilities, he will even see more clutch minutes.
You should change your handle as it is too close to mine and I don’t like the way you blog… There I said it, and now I feel better. Think about it…
Why is Diogu the primary guy off the bench smarty pants?
At 3 and 4 years into their careers, Frye and Diogu are role players period? How about all the guys who become starters over time…. too many to list smarty pants.
If Frye comes in with a money 3-ball, then Aldridge doesn’t do everything Frye can times 2.
What we lacked last year in power, size and defense, we are getting a small bump on the first unit named GREG ODEN who may help in those areas. May…
Not to say I don’t like Diogu, but I know Diogu isn’t as developed in terms of BBIQ, which Nate will struggle with, so I envision Diogu getting into the mix slowly this first season, plus Diogu has struggled with health and conditioning to stay healthy, which is the primary focus to build up value and a solid role for a guy like Diogu. Ike has skills, no doubt, but it will take him some time to crack Nate’s line-up… no such thing as a free lunch with the Sarge.
That is why and where Frye will find time.

Frye averaged 17 min. last season. Add a new starting Center (who’ll get a lot of time) and an additional PF to compete for time, you don’t think his minutes will go down?

But he gets in foul trouble? Wouldn’t it be nice to have a very similar player (Frye) as well as a change-of-pace PF (Diagu)?
Are you saying LMA isn’t going to get in foul trouble?
And Ike IS similar to Zach in that they are both space-eaters with rugged inside games who can hit a J out to 15 ft or so. At least that was Zach before his knee blew out. Oh, and they’re black, I forgot that was a “similarity” as far as one’s game goes.

But I “think” that Oden will get the nod if he’s healthy and picks up the offense. He really is much better than JPriz in drawing doubles (at least from watching him in college).
Priz may end up with more minutes for the first bunch of games, but I really think Greg will start if he’s up to speed.
